Marvin Gaye's Death
Sunday April 1, 1984, I heard on the radio that he had been shot to death. I was sitting in my room on the floor uncarpeted just playing a board game or whatever while my parents were watching TV in the living room. When I had told them they did not believe me. I told them that it was no April Fool joke. About one hour later it was on the evening news. Then my dad played the "Let's Get It On" LP as a tribute right after the news was official to him.
2 Pac's Death
This came to me on a Friday night in 1996 while we were getting our butts kicked at work. This made things worse for me as a manager. I thought for sure he would pull through the gun shot wounds. It was absolutely the most appalling and heartbreaking news that I have ever heard in a long time.
Milli Vanill's lip sync Scandal
First thing that I heard in the moring at 8 AM during Radio and Television class in high school was the news. I was surprised! I knew that they had some haters but I finally understood why because of all the rumours. On kid said "I told you so". I loved their music...Of course I did play their stuff for over a decade because of the scandal, thank God I did not throw any of their stuff away. I still dig the music whoever sang on this....
Aaliyah's Death
I was in shock. I heard about this on the old R&R boards. I couldn't believe it. I almost cried, man. I loved her voice and some of her songs as well!

Selena's death
Yeah same thing you said about Marvin Gaye, she was killed on March 31st and there were rumors of that going around. I hadn't known too much of her I was pretty little but I knew her music and cried when I heard. I remember hearing her Spanish music a lot around after it happened. Then Dreaming Of You and I Could Fall In Love on the radio a lot later in the summer.

The deaths of 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Selena, Aaliyah, and Melanie Thornton (from La Bouche).
TLC and Toni Braxton having to file for bankruptcy.
Lil' Kim being sent to jail.
Mariah Carey having that breakdown.
Janet Jackson going blind for a short period in 1997.
Madonna singing "Lament" while strapped to an electric chair during her ReInvention Tour.
Madonna singing "Live To Tell" while staging a crucifixion during her Confessions Tour.
The boycott of the Dixie Chicks after they made those political comments.
The demise of Destiny's Child.
Martha Wash actually being the uncredited vocalist for Black Box and C&C Music Factory.

01. Seeing Aretha Franklin performing healthy EXTRA LARGEThis woman scaries me BIG TIME 02. Michelle Williams falling down @ BET Okay I laughed my ass off for DAYS, but I felt sorry for her. She has always been the underdog of the band, so why god allowed just her to fall down? Couldnt it be Kelly or Yonka? Why her dear lord! 03. Paris Hilton launching herself as a singer 'Nough said

Janet Jackson went blind? Never head of that one. How was she cured? I heard about that on VH1 and on E!. Apparently something happened and she was temporarily blind for a short time. It may have been a few days. It was during the promotion for The Velvet Rope.

Speaking of charts, I think it was seriously shocking when James Blunt (and then Daniel Powter, Rihanna, Shakira, and Justin T) went to #1 this year. It looked as if Non-urban songs would never go to #1 again.

I think Michael Jackson deserves a mention
The late 80's/ early 90's wouldnt been what it were without him / the child abuse claims / nose / white transformation.
So yeah, Michael Jackson IS a shocking event that affected me, his makeover, crazy behavior throught out the years were really SHOCKING
