I mean think about it. Kiddie.. well not really kiddie, but younger friendly people are IMO making a comeback now HSM, Hannah Montanah etc... just like how Mickey Mouse and the teeny pop were dominating a decade ago. I mean, do you guys think that there is a cycle? and that years from now.. boy bands will make a comeback? then the pop phenom... What do you guys think.
PS... I think people are starting to get tired of Hip Hop and Rap..

Boy bands always seem to come back near the tail end of the decade. right now there are probably some forming that nobody knows about that won't explode for a few years.

I think the cycle is returning. Urban music doesnt dominate like it used to. Tons of rock songs sare hits right now
Even urban artists like Beyonce and Rihanna are finding success with pop songs (like Irreplaceable and Unfaithful), and not doing well with urban ones (like Ring The Alarm and We Ride)

LOL. Even if boy bands and post grunge rock came back full time, it seems like KIIS would still march to the beat of their own drum.

I don't have anything to base it on, but I just don't get the feeling that the general public outside the Disney set is ready to embrace pure pop.
The tepidness of the economy also doesn't suggest that there is a lot of disposable income to be spent on music.

Music always seems to go in cycles. I have always noticed that what was big 15-20 years ago always seems to come back in fashion. Twenty years ago techno pop bands high on fashion, like Duran Duran, were huge. Now we have the Killers.
Twenty years ago the Smiths were quite an influential band. Today, emo bands from Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco to AFI all have taken cues form the Smiths (from the huge many word song titles that the Smiths were famous for to the self depreciating lyrics).
Twenty years ago pop metal ruled the rock world, with young guys wearing makeup performing watered down commercialized heavy metal. Twenty years later, there is pop punk, in which a bunch of young guys wearing makeup playing watered down commercialized punk rock that rules the rock world.
You could go on and on about comparing what was big now, what was big ten years ago and what was big twenty years ago and compare that to what was big twenty years before that time period. You will notice a twenty year pattern.
So I guess if you are young and are starting a band and expect to make it five years from now, take cues to what was big 15 years ago and you will probably be in fashion in five years. ;)

While the cycle may continue, I'll say this...
Only the Disney crowd if buying Hannah Montana. And even still HM isnt the same as BSB or Britney.
HSM was a phenomenon that Disney will have a hard time repeating.

I hope the boyband era will never come again though I must admit I used to buy A LOT of those boyband records.

What's wrong with a station not following trends?

Huh? I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I was just saying that they seem to do what they like regardless of trends.

I hope the boyband era will never come again though I must admit I used to buy A LOT of those boyband records. A lot of the good boybands came out in the early 90s, like Color Me Badd, Bad Boys Inc., Optimystic, etc. Backstreet Boys, N Sync, Five, etc were good too, but they were hella manufactured. Though, I am guilty of buying those records too. It was good stuff. I was young then.
