Did 'Dark Side Of The Moon' ever fall off? Yeah, it fell off a few times during its overall 741 weeks... but I'm pretty sure that its initial chart run was still longer than anyone else's. Johnny Mathis's Greatest Hits album also had a lengthy chart run back in the '50s and '60s (490 weeks), but I'm not sure if that was all consecutive.

See this is why we need a factsheet for the most frequently asked records.

yes we do.
lol
I didnt know albums were on that much
Lets say the longest since the 2000s
Because Eminem's greatest hits has been on almost a year which in this day and time I think is amazing
Or how about the longest stay on charts with a greaest hits. I know Creed is still on, but I think it MAY have fallen off..

Evanescence's Fallen had been in the top 200 for about two years.

The overall record under any system though, goes to Pink Floyd.

Actually no, billboard did an article about this and Shania holds the record/ you can't compare to an old system, that makes no sense. Shania also holds the record for the most weeks in the top 20 on billboard which is even more impressive.

Shania Twain holds the record of not quite 3 years since albums got kicked to catalog after 2 years. The overall record in the history of the chart is 741 weeks for Dark Side Of The Moon. Might try reading the article again. Billboard never said that Shania Twain has an "overall" record in this category.

I think we're all on the same page, guys. We know theres an old system and a new system, but that doesnt mean the old system never existed.
Shania's time in the Top 20 is very impresive too.

What was the time in the top 20?
EDIT:
Found it on wikipedia (99 weeks) - it is unconfirmed though.
Anyone know how long 'West Side Story' was in the top 20???

The Guns N Roses album is a current challenger to the 151 week mark. If it hangs on through the holidays, it has a shot.

Can you provide a link to the article that says that Shania Twain and not Pink Floyd has the all time record for longevity on the BB200??? Certainly under the current set of rules 151 weeks is the record but, that is far from the ALL-TIME record. That has been topped by quite a few albums.

Shania's album hasn't even been out for 741 weeks, has it?
For charts whose rules change over the years, it's still the same chart and thus the record is the same overall. If Shania has the record since the catalogue chart came along, well, that's a record on its own but as far as I'm concerned, and I'm sure as far as the actual chart is concerned, the record holder IS Pink Floyd.

It would have been much longer but, the catalog chart was created for albums just like this one. No catalog chart and this album would still be in the BB200. For catalog and BB200 combined weeks, this album stands at 1527 weeks. Sold almost 8 million in soundscan era. Last certification date was 1998 at 15 times platinum. Certainly higher than that now.

An album like that is part of rock history as it is. I think it'll probably be a consistant seller for many many years to come because word of it keeps passing down thru the generations. I'm sure it's pretty much late teens/early 20somethings that are helping keep the numbers up. This is one of those CDs that is a musthave for any fan of rock music.
