When I first heard "Run It" a little over a year ago, I thought the background music sounded a little like "Yeah" and thought it would be a nice alternative instead of hearing "Yeah" all the time. Of course, "Run It" got the "Yeah" treatment anyway and hit #1 for several weeks.
Three singles later, I just heard "Say Goodbye" and it sort of sounds like the "Burn"/"U Got It Bad" type of songs that Usher might do.
Of course, 'Excuse Me Miss" and "Gimme That" don't really have Usher counterparts, but still...
anyone else agree that Chris Brown and Usher are similar sounding artists?

They are very similar, but I like Usher more.

IMO, Chris Brown is an Usher-rip-off. Usher is far more talented, IMO.

Usher is a lot more talented, but Chris Brown is still a great artist.

And most other R&B solo male artists? Probably.
Naw, I'm only partly kidding. I never thought of it before. Good comparison but Chris will need another album to determine whether they can be compared.

His first solo-outing was a lot more successful than Usher's. So I think he's better. :o Thats right, I said it! But seriously, I don't know, its too hard to judge things like this.

I think all these young guys are very Michael-Jackson inspired. Once the formula worked for Usher, labels didn't waste time to come up with more of these African American kids like Mario, Omarion and Chris Brown and other ones that can dance and sing, can do a lot of Michael-Jackson dance moves and songs that have clearly the Jackson influence updated with some hip hop of this decade in some cases. I guess they're talented and do an ok job, but if labels start cloning more of these guys, I'm just going to go insane!!! :)
Oh, regarding Chris being the next Usher. I would have to wait for Chris' next album. He still looks like a kid compared to Usher that looks more like a man like Justin Timberlake does. I think usually the first ones like Justin and Usher are the ones that are stronger and maintain their position. Then you'll have a bunch of copies or variations that can be successful, but stay kind on a second level.
It's like in the last couple of years when a lot of young females singers were imitating a lot of Mariah's ways of singing and still are. I think it's the same with Michael Jackson and this new generation of very young singers/dancers.

Chris' ego is still not as big as Usher's just yet, so no.

Most artist who debut didn't do so well, went on to sell millions, like Destiny's Child... Rihanna could very well be the next Beyonce. There is only one Usher...Maybe he can be Tevin Campbell...Oops, he can't sing that well.

Usher is sooo much better. I'm not that big of a fan of him, but he's quite talented.
Chris Brown is alright. He's just a knock-off of the real thing.

If I am to make parallels, I'd say Chris Brown is closer to being the new Rockwell.

Chris Brown essentially wouldn't be here if it weren't for a young Usher breaking ground for this soulful hip-hop R&B/dance sound back in the mid-to-late '90s.
I would say Usher is still the new Usher, since his last CD was humungous on many radio formats and commercially.
You really can't compare. Chris Brown won't even hold a candle in terms of influence on other bands. Usher has been much more influential on today's young hip-hop/R&B artists. It's like saying Creed was the new Pearl Jam.

Chris's run wasn't actually much more successful than Usher's. On the Hot 100, he went #2, #1 and #2 with his 3 singles and was actually named Billboard's Artist of the Year in '98 like Chris was this year. My Way far outsold Chris Brown. Chris did damn well this year but I don't think he'll ever match Usher at the level of Confessions.

Actually My Way only got as high as #4 on the Hot 100. Nice and Slow was #1 and You Make Me Wanna was #2.

Chris Brown is talented and has done great things for his age, but Usher is so much more attractive than he is, he couldn't be the heartthrob Usher is!!

I think so. Even though Chris Brown is popular now, I think in a few years he will have his "Confessions" album, and he will be huge.

Maybe he can be the next Usher in a couple years. Ironically, "Gimme That" is my fav single of his, and it was probably the least successful

Chris Brown is very big but he is far less talented than Usher.
