Delta Gets One, Cosima Gets Two By Paul Cashmere
18 October 2004
Delta Goodrem has returned in fine form with her 'Out Of The Blue' single toppimg Australia's singles chart this week with sales of 18,955 units.
Delta had more than double the sales of Maroon 5 who were at No. 2 with 7492 units of 'She Has To Be Love' sold.
Another Idol contestant, Joel Turner increased sales going to No. 4 with 6,174 units sold but Guy Sebastian had another slip down to No. 9 with 'Out With My Baby' achieving 3626 units. 'Out With My Baby' has sold in total only 24,000 units. It is tracking at being at least three weeks away from even selling Gold, let alone the platinum award it was given on the day of release.
Meanwhile, over at the album chart Idol's Cosima had a healthy debut at No. 2 with her debut album selling 7,300 units and placing it not all that far behind Maroon 5's 'Songs About Jane' with 7,460 units sold.
Albums to debut in the Top 50 this week were Sum 41's 'Chuck' at No. 13, Brian Wilson's 'Smile' at No. 17, Jimmy Eat World 'Futures' at No. 27, 28 Days 'Extremist Makeover' at No. 31 and Sarah Blasko 'The Overture and the Underscore' at No. 35.

Delta's US debut will feature tracks from "innocent eyes" and "mistaken identity". Sony will be testing the market with "lost without you". They were thinking of "born to try" as first single, but given the fact that the american market is so against sappy ballads, they're going with "lost without you" instead....

Source for that info?
"Lost Without You" is my favourite Delta song, so I'm happy she's going with that one. However, it's also the only song she didn't write or co-write so that's kind of disappointing that she might debut with her only unoriginal song.

"Lost Without You" is my favorite of her songs so I'm glad they're leading off with that. They'd still better be ready to promote her because that song is not going to become a hit on it's own. She can start by shooting a new video.

I agree that "LWY" needs a new video. The one they shot didn't fit the song imo; playing Pac-man and throwing popcorn with friends didn't work for me.

I love the video for LWY... she looks the best she's ever looked in it.
Maybe it's not too exciting for a video but I don't think a big budget video with special effects would suit the song somehow. They might want to shoot a new video simply because she looks totally different now with short brown hair rather then long blonde hair.

I don't think that 'Lost Without You' would be a very good 1st single for America if they feel "Born To Try" isn't good enough. "Out Of The Blue" or "Innocent Eyes" would be better first singles for America.

This is at #1 for the 3rd week in a row.
She's still got it! The album comes out exactly 1 week from now. No doubt it'll debut at #1 with HUGE numbers.
This song has real staying power and I am totally addicted to it. I still haven't changed my mind on it being a high quality song - it's not (poor nursery rhyme style lyrics, over-produced etc) but I just love it and can't get enough of it! Her B sides on the single convinced me that her album is going to be incredible though, although I haven't heard any of it yet, I'll be picking it up first day.

If you go to Brian McFadden's website you can listen to a clip of his duet with Delta Goodrem called "Almost Here".
The song will appear on both their albums.

The album is out next week. Will it debut at #1? I would bet my life savings on it! I can't wait.
Here's a Delta article:
Delta force November 5, 2004
About to turn 20, the actor/singer-songwriter talks to Bryony Gordon about an intense 18 months.
This week Delta Goodrem's mother, Lea, played a practical joke on the singer, songwriter and actor, waking her with a loud chorus of Happy Birthday. It's Goodrem's birthday on Tuesday - she turns 20 - but she was tired enough to think she might have slept for a week.
A little exhaustion is only to be expected. In July last year, when she was just 18, her single Lost Without You entered the British charts at No. 4. She was a star on Neighbours and about to launch her music career in the US. But three days before she was due to go to America, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. "I was at No. 1 in Australia with both my album and my single - and then I was told I had cancer. I thought: what a strange turn of events."
Such an understated response seems typical of Goodrem. She shows no sign of sadness and breaks off halfway through the interview to apologise, laughing: "I'm sorry if I'm getting too intense for you. The thing is, I had to get better and shut everything out. You become quite military about it. I said to myself: 'Right, you've cried. Now, deal with it and get rid of it!"'
"I had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I had all the nausea tablets and drugs to counteract the effects of other tablets. And I'm a girl who, before, wouldn't even take a Panadol."
The treatment was successful, but it will be five years before doctors can give the all-clear.
Goodrem's ordeal began in Australia many months before she was diagnosed. "Behind the scenes, I was really sick. I was averaging two hours' sleep a night, getting up at 6am to do Neighbours and coming over to England for weekends."
She found a lump in her neck, but
two doctors told her not to worry. By July last year she was so tired she could hardly see straight. One night she woke from a terrible dream. "I was drenched in sweat and I couldn't move. I called my mum and told her I thought something really bad was going to happen to me ... Mum and Dad took one look at me and said: 'You're going to hospital.' And that was it."
Tests revealed tumours in her chest and neck, and she had surgery immediately. She feared her voice would suffer. "They were about to try to save my life, but at the same time they would possibly take away what makes it what it is ... I've had to build [my voice] back up again."
The response of the media and her fans was mostly positive, except when photographers tried to come into the hospital. During her treatment, she won a record-breaking 10 ARIAs.
"It was such a bizarre time. I had a wig on, as I had no hair. I'd lost about 19 kilos, and the doctors had to give me loads of drugs to get me there. But I had to make it - it was like a light at the end of the tunnel for me."
She also began dating Mark Philippoussis, whose father has beaten Hodgkin's three times. Last week it was reported the couple had broken up, with Philippoussis linked to Paris Hilton. Do reports about her personal life bother Goodrem? "It's important to be aware of them, but they're not really my focus. My illness puts everything into perspective. Maybe I just needed to toughen up a little bit."

Delta's pre-launch jitters By Christine Sams November 7, 2004 The Sun-Herald Delta Goodrem has revealed that she is nervous about how well her much-anticipated new album will be received following her high-profile split with tennis player Mark Philippoussis. "I'm nervous because it's a funny time," she told The Sun-Herald. "But I'm not nervous about the music at all." Goodrem, who turns 20 on Tuesday, is Australia's biggest-selling female artist, but the release of Mistaken Identity today is expected to cement her position as the nation's most successful musician. The album is Sony Music Australia's highest-priority release of the year and will be one of its final big-name releases before the company merges with BMG early next month. But the multimillion-dollar marketing plan for Goodrem's new album went astray with news of her split with Philippoussis. Goodrem has spent much of the past week performing promotional duties in London, including launching the single Out Of The Blue - a love song written for Philippoussis. The singer said she poured out her heart in the song because "I couldn't stand there and sing something I wasn't feeling". Advertisement AdvertisementNow she faces the prospect of singing tunes written about her failed romance during a coming Australian tour. Although she has dodged questions about her break-up with Philippoussis, Goodrem is expected to return to Australia tomorrow to promote the local release of her new album. She will perform on radio and television, and is expected to announce a live appearance at Channel [V] in Sydney's Fox Studios. The singer was unable to tour with her smash-hit songs from Innocent Eyes (her debut album that produced five No. 1 singles) after being diagnosed with cancer last year. Her tour is expected to encompass songs from her first and second albums, and is likely to be one of the hottest concert tickets of 2005. Mistaken Identity features several tracks, including Fragile and Be Strong, that deal with issues surrounding Goodrem's health ordeal over the past 18 months. Another track, You Are My Rock, was written about her close friendship with Sydney Swans player Jude Bolton. Apart from the Australian market, Goodrem is planning to tackle the US and UK markets throughout 2005. New manager Dave Holmes, who also looks after UK supergroup Coldplay, is co-handling Goodrem's career with Delta's mother Lea, who has always been heavily involved in her daughter's career. Goodrem is also having to face more attention now than at the launch of Innocent Eyes. When Goodrem's first hit single, Born To Try, hit the airwaves in 2002, the singer said there was no pressure on her. "When the song was first released . . . there was nothing," Goodrem said. "No one knew me from a bar of soap but people were talking about the song. People were talking about my voice and nothing else. "They were like 'Who is this girl and what does she do?"' Music is not the only thing to keep Goodrem busy these days. She has a role in the film Hating Alison Ashley, which was shot in Melbourne earlier this year. But acting is not new to the singer, who first came to the public's attention with a role in Neighbours. She moved to Melbourne when she started on the show and said it was a "great time of my life". Goodrem has also followed in Kylie Minogue's footsteps with a lingerie range, which went on sale last month. While her parents remained in Sydney's Hills District, Goodrem moved out of home. She recently bought a three-bedroom apartment in the Woolloomooloo Wharf complex.

Here is the hidden track on this CD "Nobody Listened" s3.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=7AA51EF231E71E0D496E8FBEB020340DThis is one of the best songs! It should've been a track on it's own. It's a really agressive and angry song where Delta screams (not sing-screaming but actual SCREAMING!!). I love this song. The album is absolutely brilliant. "Out Of The Blue" is no indication of what the rest of the album is like. It's a lot darker than IE. The lyrics are really good and really show her emotions and what she's gone through.... there's a few typical Delta songs but most of them have a new darker edge and the mood is totally different. I have to listen to it more to decide what my favourite tracks are. This is every bit as good as her debut, probably better as an entire album.

The "Nobody Listened" chorus sounds like Natalie Imbruglia's "That Day."

The "Nobody Listened" chorus sounds like Natalie Imbruglia's "That Day." That's EXACTLY what I thought the first time I heard it. But Delta sounds A LOT angrier in hers, and the rest of the song is totally different.

DELTA TO TOUR
Hot on the release of her new album, Mistaken Identity, Delta Goodrem has announced her first Australian tour.
Delta Goodrem Live - the Visualise Tour will travel around the country throughout July 2005. The star will finally be able to showcase the hits from her debut album, Innocent Eyes, after her battle with Hodgkin's Lymphona put tour plans on hold last year.
"I can't even begin to say how excited I am," she said in a press release today. "Playing live is such a huge part of it all and people haven't seen this side of me yet. I just can't wait."
Goodrem says she been planning her first tour for as long as she can remember. She's already got the show down pat in her head: from how she'll make her entrance, to precisely which songs should go where to illustrate her musical journey and exactly how she plans to bring her music to life in front of the people she's connected with over the past two years.
"It's going to be a big production. I want it to be everything you could try and imagine you'd have in a tour. I really want to be hands-on with this; put together a place where you walk in and suddenly you're entranced in the music. There's going to be lots of things people haven't seen me do yet: people haven't seen me dance, there'll be some real acoustic versions of songs, a more playful side... it will show a lot of sides of me I haven't shown yet. I really want to have great fun with it. It's fantastic to have two albums to choose from, we've got lots of songs people will have lived with for a while. It will be a real combination of the two albums, big production, big spectacle, big drama but also moments of just piano, voice and interaction with the crowd."
"For years and years I've known that playing live is what I do all this for: to get up and sing for people and connect with them on that level. I'm going to have a show where I can interact with the crowd and have fun, it's something the people who've gone out and bought my album deserve from me. I want to be able to say 'Ok, come on, let's go into this little world where we can sing all the songs we know and have a great time'."
Goodrem, who turns 20 tomorrow, is already Australia's biggest-selling female artist, with six number one singles (Born to Try, Lost Without You, Innocent Eyes, Not Me Not I, Predictable, Out of the Blue). Her debut album spent a record-breaking 29 weeks at No.1 (selling over 1 million copies in Australia; another 1.2 million in the UK and Europe).
Goodrem will play Sydney's SuperDome on Saturday, July 23 and a special Sunday matinee performance for her younger fans on July 24. Promoter Paul Dainty said the matinee shows were Delta's idea.
Dainty, whose company have been negotiating all year to get the tour, are keeping the ticket prices to an "affordable" level.
"The show is going to be stunning," Dainty promises. "It is going to be more like an international tour; a huge show that will blow everyone away. Delta's touring on the back of two big albums that have plenty of hits on them. The things she's got planned for this show are fantastic."
Tickets go on sale on Monday, November 29, with an internet "pre-sale" running from 12 noon Thursday 25 November through to 5pm Sunday 28 November at ticketek.com.

I would say, after listening to it non-stop for the past 3 days, that this album ROCKS and my favourite songs are:
Little Too Late Extraordinary Day Disorientated Out Of The Blue Nobody Listened (hidden track) Mistaken Identity The Analyst Almost Here Sanctuary
The album is very different to her debut. The lyrics are fantastic - very personal and meaningful. This will definitely secure Delta's position as the biggest Australian artist and put her in a great position to take it worldwide.
There is nothing that can take away from how good this album is, so if she doesn't achieve US success in the future, it won't matter. I am certain this album will be hugely successful in Australia, as her debut was. She's no one album wonder.

Out Of The Blue is midweek #9 in the UK. No disaster by any means, but kinda underwhelming. For a multi-platinum artist she should have been challenging for top 3, and she's nowhere near. I think the album may perform very underwhelmingly, over the holiday period at least. Maybe a further single will save it.

#9 UK for a FIRST single - that's not very good. Hopefully she gets up higher. I'm sure her duet with Brian McFadden will do much better over there though, which will help the album over the coming months.
Here's an article about this weeks sales in Oz:
Delta Goodrem Will Debut At Number One By Paul Cashmere
10 November 2004
As expected, Delta Goodrem's 'Mistaken Identity' has been outselling all in its path this week and will debut atop the Australian chart ousting Robbie Williams' three week reign.
Williams sold more than 110,000 units of his 'Greatest Hits' in the first three weeks giving him the fastest selling album of the year.
Delta is expected to debut at number one with sales over 40,000 units.
You can expect a good debut for Simple Plan. Their second album 'Still Not Getting Any' is gearing up for a top 10 debut.
King of Leon 'Aha Shake Heartbreaker', The Waifs 'Brief History', Ronan Keating '10 Years of Hits', Elton John 'Peachtree Road' and Shania Twain's 'Greatest Hits' should all debut in the Top 40.
Guy Sebastian's 'Beautiful Life' took another tumble on the HMV chart dropping down to No. 28 in it's 4th week. However it will sell enough to pass the 35,000 sales mark this week, justifying a Gold album certification.
Given relative population sizes, a debut of 40,000 in Australia is equivalent to about 600,000 in the US - that goes to show you how big Delta is.

I had never heard of Delta Goodrem or any of her songs here in the US, but I just heard "Born to try" on Promosquad and loved it, so I googled the song name and found it was Delta Goodrem's. I was just at her official site and listened to several of her song clips, and loved both the songs and her voice. Does anyone know of any plans to promote her in the USA?

The single, "Out Of The Blue" spends its 5th week in the top 3 (3 of those weeks were at #1).

Delta Goodrem Has A Quickie
Delta Goodrem Related Content: Buy CD: Delta Goodrem Mistaken Identity By Paul Cashmere
15 November 2004
Delta Goodrem's 'Mistaken Identity' has debuted at number one on the Australian album chart with one of the fastest selling albums of 2004 so far.
The album sold more than 54,000 units last week.
That makes 'Mistaken Identity' the second fastest selling album of 2004, behind Shannon Noll's 'That's What I'm Talking About' which debuted on February 16 after selling 131,000 units in the first week.
Delta has knocked Robbie Williams from the top in his forth week but the Williams album still managed a healthy 29,000 sales bringing his total tally to more than 140,000 units or legitimate double platinum.
Williams has the third fastest selling album of 2004 so far 'Greatest Hits' sold 46,000 units. Norah Jones is in 4th place with first week sales of 37,200 and Kasey Chambers is 5th with 25,800 units in week one.
Although the year is coming to a close, there are other contenders who may creep into the Top 5. Next week we will be watching Eminem's 'Encore' enter the chart. U2's 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' should be big and Kylie Minogue's 'The Ultimate Kylie' also
Since the ARIA Awards, the Australian Record Industry has had a vigorous turn around in sales with the Top 6 albums this week all selling more than 10,000 units. In the week before the ARIA Awards, the number one album sold just 7,400 copies.
The Top 10 albums sold around 159,000 units last week, up 43,160 on the previous week.

After listening to the clips, I want the album now. "Last Night On Earth" is my favorite. Her duet with Brian sounds like a surefire smash in Australia and the UK.
"Out of The Blue" did not leave a good impression on me but the album sounds solid enough. The clips almost all sound the same. :-\
I was hoping "A Little Too Late" would be a Tonya J Mitchell cover. :) Instead, it reminds me of Amber's "You Move Me" just as Delta goes into the chorus.

#9 UK for a FIRST single - that's not very good. Hopefully she gets up higher. I'm sure her duet with Brian McFadden will do much better over there though, which will help the album over the coming months. OOTB drops from #9 to #29 in its second week. I think the song just isn't an appealing single; I'm sure the duet will give her a proper charting, if not #1.

OOTB drops to #9 in Australia this week. The album drops to #2 (behind Eminem's debut at #1). I would expect it to go back to #1 again over the Xmas period and beyond...
That's a big flop in the UK. I'm sure the duet will get her back on top and the following singles as well. There's a lot of strong material on the album.
It's definitely a better album than IE so I'm expecting it to do really well - I wouldn't judge from the clips. The album is really different and diverse.
