We've known about this for awhile, but it's time for an official thread. www.aversion.com/news/news_article.cfm?news_id=7851Hives Start New AlbumJan 03, 2007 The Hives are hard at work on their two biggest loves: making music and self-promotion. The Swedish rock act revealed it entered the studio in late January to record the follow-up to 2004's Tyrannosaurus Hives (Interscope) (read Aversion's review). The record, which finds the five-piece effort returning to Gröndal Studio, is being recorded under the title of The World's First Perfect Album. What label will issue that dose of self-proclaimed perfection is still up in the air, though. For more information on The Hives, including featured interviews and reviews, click here. I'll continuously post news, as I subscribe to their blog on myspace, which is frequently updated.

Timbo, eh? Anything other than their best album ever won't do for me after knowing that they'll be working with today's Phil Spector.

You're right. In that case, I'll lower my expectations, then.

Oh & Timba is not on THEIR album; they are on HIS. Yeah, I'm aware ;)...I like them a bit. I just find it funny that everybody and their mother is announcing that they're working with Timbaland these days.

Even if you aren't an existing fan, please make an effort to go see this band live at some point in your life. By all accounts, they are phenomenal performers. Best live act on earth (according to everyone).

Deep South, meet the Hiveswww.prefixmag.com/blog/prefix/2007/03/09/hives-new-album/Talk about culture clash. Swedish spazz-rockers the Hives are going to lay down their next album in Mississippi, of all places. Then again, maybe the band and locale aren’t such an odd pairing. The Hives’ frontman does call himself Howlin’ Pelle Almqist, obviously a nod to similarly-monikered old bluesmen, and the band’s frantic energy taps a source that goes back to rock’s roots in the Delta. I don’t know if Miami, Florida can really be counted as a genuine part of the Deep South, but for what it’s worth, the Hives have also been putting in time at that city’s Hit Factory studio. Head over the the Hives’ website for all the band has to say on their proceedings. And don’t forget, the Swedes put in a guest appearance on Timbaland’s upcoming Timbaland Presents: Shock Value.

Man, you've gotta give it up to these guys though, to make such a ballsy album title.
After Tyrannosaurus Hives went above and beyond my expectations, I'm looking forward to this. And hope someday to see them live. Hopefully they'll open up for an actually interesting band this time. Sahara Hotnights blow, IMHO.
And I can't wait to hear Timbaland's album, either.

The Hives Tour, Record, Collaborate With RaconteursSwedish sharp dressers the Hives are dropping hints about the sound of their forthcoming album on both their MySpace blog and the "Personals" section of their official website (i.e. their journals, not yet a date-finding tool). Guitarist Nicolaus Arson says, "We just have too much good stuff to put on this new record of ours. How we are gonna pull it off, all these bitchin' rock 'n rollers together with the crazy dance and hip hop flavoured stuff we have recorded and make that work on one record? I don't know, but if someone is gonna do it, it is your favourite crimefighters, the Hives. We also, by the way, today mish-mashed Chuck Berry and Gang of Four in a moronic way to create yet another dear freak of a song." It sounds like that Timbaland collaboration might have gone to their heads. Drummer Chris Dangerous adds to the MySpace blog that they have recorded the album, the follow-up to 2004's Tyrannosaurus Hives, in London, Miami, and Oxford, Mississippi. Though it will not appear on the Hives' album, vocalist Howlin' Pelle Almqvist adds that he recently breakfasted with Jack White and collaborated with the Raconteurs on a song called "Footsteps" for their new album. The Hives also shot a video with Timbaland recently for "Throw It on Me", their aforementioned guest appearance on the producer's solo album, Shock Value. The band will continue their globetrotting ways on tour at various European festivals this summer. The rocking begins June 1 at the Rock am Ring Festival in Germany. In related news, this is pretty fucking scary. Tour idiot tour: 06-01 Nürburgring, Germany - Rock am Ring Festival 06-02 Nurnberg, Germany - Rock im Park Festival 06-15 Vienna, Austria - Nova Rock Festival 06-16 Interlaken, Switzerland - Greenfield Festival 06-24 Roeser, Luxembourg - Rock a Field Festival 06-30 Belfort, France - Eurockéennes Festival 07-05 Prague, Czech Republic - Rock for People Festival 07-07 Turku, Finland - Ruiz Rock Festival 07-19 Tromso, Norway - Bukta Festival 07-20 Trencin, Slovakia - Pohoda Festival 07-22 Valencia, Spain - Benacassim Festival 07-27 Östersund, Sweden - Storsjöyran Festival 08-10 Gothenburg, Sweden - Way Out West Festival 08-11 Budapest, Hungary - Sziget Festival

The Hives team up with Pharrell WilliamsThe Hives have teamed up with Pharrell Williams for tracks on their new album. The band have also recorded some tracks with Bloc Party producer Jacknife Lee. In a statement singer Howlin Pelle wrote: "This new album has been recorded all over the world because we thought it was time to have other people involved besides ourselves and our closest friends. "The lion's share of this new album was recorded in Mississippi with producer Dennis Herring. We also met producer Pharrell Williams in Japan a while ago. "He told us: 'We should record together,' and 'something bass guitar based.' We ended up spending some time in Miami making music with him. Some of his music will end up on The Hives' new record." The band will play London's 100 Club on July 24. Meanwhile, The Hives collaboration with Timbaland 'Throw It On Me', with a video inspired by 'Sin City', is also set to be released, although a release date has not been announced.

The Hives Recording New Album In 'Black And White'August 07, 2007, 10:55 AM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Swedish rock outfit the Hives is presently recording its next project, "The Black and White Album," in Oxford, Miss., with producer Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello). No release date has been announced for the follow-up to 2004's "Tyrannosaurus Hives," which has sold 178,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "This new album has been recorded all over the world because we thought it was time to have other people involved besides ourselves and our closest friends," frontman Howlin' Pelle Almvquist says. The Hives have also worked with Pharrell Williams in Miami, Jacknife Lee in London and in Sweden with Bob Hund member Tomas Oberg. "At times it has felt like we are prisoners to our own creativity and that it is taking a long time," Almvquist says. "At this time we have a lot of songs. In the past we only had what was on each album. We ask you to bear with us as we take the time to wrestle this onto an album." As previously reported, the Hives will join Maroon 5 as the support act for the latter's fall North American tour, which begins Sept. 29 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Hives name new album The garage rock Swedes announce release date tooThe Hives have revealed that the title of their forthcoming new album will be 'The Black And White Album'. The album will be released in the UK on October 8, and preceded by a single, 'Tick Tick Boom', released on September 24. The band had previously talked about the frustrations they encountered while making the album, which was recorded in over seven different studios. Front-man Howlin' Pelle Almqvist had described the making of the album to NME.COM as similar to that of Guns N Roses' famously long-delayed project, 'Chinese Democracy'. The band have launched a new website to coincide with the build-up to the release of the album.

I'm trying to see them on the 9th, but I have an exam that day & some other assignment later that week, so it's probably not going to happen. I'm looking forward to the album release, though.
