Are they like hard-core metal scream-o fests? Not trying to be sarcastic, it's just I've heard a lot about them, but not their actual music.

Oh no...not at all. It's hard to describe their "sound"....but thing majestic, emotional chamber rock. A lot of beautiful clamor, passionate vocals, and fatalistic lyrics.

Everyone loves this song, so I guess it's a good intro to the band: Rebellion (Lies)

Um, you do realize different commercial standards apply for independent artists, right? Do you even know who this band is? This is a band that had no radio support, little TV support, plays unorthodox music, and gained exposure through word of mouth & a grinding touring schedule. They have an insanely dedicated fanbase & have become one of the hottest acts in the world organically. It's truly remarkable & real inspiration to the indie community. Wake up to the world beyond TRL, sweetheart. It's not as scary as it might seem.

Don't worry about him, oscillations, sometimes people think that all music has to offer is what is on the radio and shoved down our throats. They don't understand that what is considered successful for an artist is all relative to the artist and not to what's currently considered "hot" by mainstream standards. As you know anyway, LOL. You're pretty much writing the book on it here at pulse. ;)
Anyway, I'm thinking this new album might pass the sales of 'Funeral' since the buzz seems more collective around them. We'll see. I might get it! I haven't not liked a song by them that I've gotten in to!

www.stereogum.com/archives/004299.html#moreArcade Fire - "My Body Is A Cage" One by one, the tracks leak out. This time it's all about Win, "Climbing Up The Walls" with a self-doubting lament and distant tom thuds. The massive pipe organ is back, kicking in a minute, but this time it's more Radiohead than it is church sermon. Seriously great stuff, seriously getting difficult to wait for the rest of the record.

I just hope I won't be disappointed when this one comes out. Yeah, I know, how negative of me already. And one thing I'm totally surprised is how no big indie or major snapped them up pronto!

I just hope I won't be disappointed when this one comes out. Yeah, I know, how negative of me already. And one thing I'm totally surprised is how no big indie or major snapped them up pronto! That is the problem when an artist like Arcade Fire releases an amazing album like Funeral. The expectations are going to be sky high and if the next album is not quite on par with Funeral, many people are going to be disappointed (even if the product is still amazing). Quite often big name indie artists do not want to go to major labels due to control issues. I have talked with and read interviews with a few indie artists who have turned down major labels because they wanted to have greater creative control over their work and not have to worry about the big sales expectations that come with being part of a major label. There is also the stigma of "selling out" that comes with big name indie artists that go to majors, especially if it leads to a watered down and more commercialized sound. I have alot of respect for artists who put their own art ahead of the all mighty dollar.
