Common has ALWAYS dropped quality work. With every album he does he shows progress that never seems to let up. He is always exploring new things (Electric Circus) and new flows. I know he will not dissapoint. He deserved the Best Rap Album Grammy!

I agree he is very underrated and talented. I was a bit disappointed by his last LP but he is still one of my favourite rappers.
My favourite albums from him are 'Like Water for Chocolate' and 'One Day It'll All Make Sense', these two are classic.

Common, Hilary Swank and will.i.am find some common ground Thursday while promoting their film Freedom Writers on MTV's TRL. The Black Eyed Peas bandmate, who provided the film's score, offered high praise for Swank's performance: "She was so good in the movie that after the premiere, I thought she was a teacher."

Common's "Finding Forever": Sneak Peek By: Julianne Shepherd POSTED: 10:52 EST, April 6, 2007 Common's seventh record partly an homage to J. Dilla. Last night at New York's Sony Studios, rapper/actor Common played VIBE several stand-out tracks from his seventh album, Finding Forever, out July 10. The title, as he explained, refers to the idea of Jay Dee living on forever in the music. (Jay Dee, aka J Dilla, born James Yancey, passed on February 10, 2006 due to complications from lupus. He was Common's roommate and produced most of 2000's Like Water for Chocolate.) Some track titles and features (list is incomplete; sequencing not yet set): "The People" (featuring Dwele; prod. by Kanye West) "Black Maybe" (featuring Bilal; prod. by Kanye West) "I Want You" (prod. will.i.am) "Southside" (featuring and prod. by Kanye West) "Misunderstood" (Nina Simone sample; prod. by Devo Springsteen) "Drivin Me Wild" (featuring Lily Allen; prod. by Kanye West) "So Far to Go" (featuring D'Angelo; prod by Jay Dilla) "Break My Heart" (prod. by Kanye West) "Start the Show" (prod. by Kanye West) Common stated that on some tracks, West tried to chop beats in the same fashion as Dilla as a way of honoring him. He said that it had been difficult for him to come home to his apartment and not see Dilla on the couch watching "whatever show comes on in the morning." (It was determined said show was either "Maury Povich" or "Montel Williams.") But that he knew Dilla lived on in the music. www.vibe.com/news/news_headlines/2007/04/common_new_album/-------------------------------------------------------- Can't wait, 13 weeks to go!

Common Rhymes With Kanye, Lily Allen On 'Forever'April 09, 2007, 12:00 PM ET Mariel Concepcion, N.Y. On the heels of 2005's "Be," which debuted at a career-best No. 2 on The Billboard 200, Common has set a July 10 release date for his next Geffen album, "Finding Forever." The set features production from Kanye West, will.i.am, the late J Dilla and Devo Springsteen. "I want to leave a mark on this earth," the Chicago rapper tells Billboard.com. "By making music and saying what I have to say in my music is one of the ways I will exist forever." On the flirty "So Far Too Go" featuring a rare guest turn from D'Angelo, Common rhymes, "We make good music, and baby you are the vocals." The Nina Simone-sampling "Misunderstood" is a song Common describes as a "story of people talking to God." "He stood on the corner like the rest of them, but didn't know the corner ain't have the best for him," he raps. Another standout track is the Lily Allen-assisted "Driving Me Wild," which Common describes as a song about obsessions. "Driving herself crazy like the astronaut lady," he chants, "Love is not a mystery, it's everything." The artist has yet to announce tour plans, but has one-off shows scheduled Saturday (April 14) at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and June 20 with Joss Stone and Ryan Shaw at New York's Central Park SummerStage.

From The Fader: Few artists host listening sessions as well as Common. In between emanating deep Buddah vibes, dude lip syncs to every song, raises his fist whenever the word "black" is mentioned in his lyrics and tries to explain the actual meaning of each song...though he usually just ends up reciting at least one verse acapella to get his ideas across. The listening session for his upcoming album Finding Forever, due out in July, was held last week at Hollywood's Record Plant studio and featured special guest Kanye West. Common described West as "the thread" of the album, as he produced nine of the 11 tracks played. Mr West spent the majority of the time on a couch listening with his eyes closed. He would periodically interject his own point or approach Common at the mixing board with ideas for new embellishments to add to the songs. Which brings us to the point that the version of Finding Forever we heard was not in sequence, not mastered, and not entirely complete, but we're going to tell you all about it anyway after the jump. "The People" Set to be Finding Forever's first single, "The People" begins with a chopped interplay between the sampled "Louder!" and "Yeah!" from Mountain's ultimate breakbeat jam "Long Red." Not long ago "Long Red" was sampled by J Dilla for De La Soul's "Verbal Clap" on The Grind Date. West said that during a meeting with Steven Spielberg. the director told him that he made the film AI in the way he imagined Stanley Kubrick would have told the story. West revealed that this inspired him to produce all his tracks on Finding Forever in the same way the recently departed Dilla would have, in tribute to him. "Black Maybe" Another Kanye West production, the title of this song was taken from a song by Stevie Wonder and Syretta Wright and is about the problems that come once you've grown out of the circumstances you were born into. Repeat Common collaborator Bilal provided the vocals on the hook, furthering the album's reference point of classic soul. "I Want You" A track of electro love soul with sonic nods to Busta Rhymes' "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" and Audio Two's "Top Billin.'" "I write love songs, point blank and I ain't ashamed of it," said Common. Will.i.am whipped up the beat when he and Common were working on that song from the Gap commercial. "Southside" A shorter version of this song was released earlier this year when the Bears were in the Super Bowl. Hardly any attention is paid to hooks or catchiness, it's just bullet-spray lyrics from West and Common, who in the space of a couple lines compares himself to both James Baldwin and Kool G Rap. "Driving Me Wild" Featuring Lily Allen and produced by Kanye West. Our notes say something about it being "unhinged." We're not really sure what we meant. "So Far To Go" This one was produced by J Dilla and features D'Angelo. You should have heard it already when it was released on Dilla's posthumous album The Shining. You'd be surprised how many people at the listening session seemingly hadn't. "Break My Heart" Common had only recorded one verse for this storytelling piece that tracks a relationship from the initial flirtations to its end. "Breaking a girl's heart," said Common," sometimes it happens." "The Game" The use of Ahmad Jamal's "Swahililand" (as heard on De La Soul's "Stakes Is High") is an obvious nod to Dilla by West, but "The Game" also incorporates ’90s boom-bap hip-hop. The duo even brought in DJ Premier to scratch a chorus out of lines from OC's "Half Good, Half Sinner" : It's only right that I address this/ You gotta be in it to win it. "Start The Show" Slated as the album opener, the beat for "Start The Show" is much more dominating than most Common tracks, though West was sure to add some sparkle as it progresses. "Start The Show" features one of Common's patented putdowns of other rappers: "You was better as a drug dealer." "Misunderstood" Produced by Devo Springsteen, West's cousin and collaborator, the song is introduced by a verse and chorus from a live Nina Simone performance of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." A cast of characters that commonly appear in Common songs find their way into the lyrics: the college girl gone wrong, the smart kid stuck on the corner, etc. "Forever Begins" This is going to be the last song on our album and was probably our favorite, from it's military drums to afro-soul instrumental outro. Once it was over Common kept up his tradition and asked everyone in the room what they thought the best two tracks were. The most popular picks were "The People," "The Game," "Southside," and "Forever Begins." Common said his favorites were ""The People" and "Drivin Me Wild." West abstained.

Common, Kanye Kick It Old-School In Clip For 'The Game'Song is first single from Com's forthcoming new LP, Finding Forever, due July 10. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Yasmine Richard LOS ANGELES — Seeing Common rap today, it's easy to imagine how he did it way back in the day, when he was just a local kid on the Chicago music scene who called himself Common Sense. He's in a bathroom, looking directly into a mirror, reciting his rhymes. "Raised by gangs where brothers ain't fazed by fame," he rhymes. "Come to the crib, get banged, take your chain/ Stay in your lane/ My brainstorms like a stain in the ring/ My favorite was Kane ... Kick-back rappers get kicked to the back." One of the many differences between now and back in the day, of course, is that a director is telling Common when to rap. We're on the set for Com's new video, "The Game," the first single from his upcoming LP, Finding Forever (see "Kanye West, Lily Allen Finding Something In Common" and "Common, Kanye Going For 'Glory' On Raw, Soulful New Songs"). Common's going to be spending a lot of time in front of cameras this year: he recently told MTV News about two major films he's appearing in (see "Common Exclusive: MC To Act Alongside Angelina Jolie In Ultra-Violent 'Wanted' "). But on this day, it was all about "The Game." "I think it'll give people a nostalgic feeling but it's new at the same time," said Kanye West, who produced the song and makes a small cameo in the video. "It's a good, hard hip-hop track. A lot of melodies, different subject matter. The drums are super hard. People are gonna love it." " 'The Game' for me, is [about] just feeling hip-hop," Com explained later in the day. "I felt hip-hop was such a pure expression, I was like, 'Man, I'm just gonna MC.' Kanye did the beat. I originally wrote it to this other beat, but eventually I put [the words] to this one beat he made when we was in Hawaii. It felt good. It felt real natural. It was something about the song that made me feel like ... As an MC, you not only talk about how fresh you are, you talk about specific things that happen in the world, what goes down in your neighborhood. I felt like that's what I was doing in that song." (See Common and Kanye talking on the set of "The Game" right here.) For once, the combination of Common and Kanye on one song wasn't enough. They both felt the record needed something extra, so they enlisted Gang Starr's DJ Premier to bring his legendary flavor and turntable skills to the record. "Once we got the beat with the rap, we was like, 'We have to throw some scratches on it,' " Com recalled. "It's dirty. I feel so enthused to be putting out a song like this. When I first heard it, I felt it was a Gang Starr type of feel — honestly, that why we got DJ Premier to do the cuts. I love the sprit the music has. When Primo bought the cuts to the studio, I felt like a kid. I felt so good about hip-hop." Besides rapping in the mirror in the video, Common also had a chance to take his words to the stage with a club scene. And unlike many of his peers, in a Common video that does not mean popping bottles with models and trying to do some weird new dance. Here, the Chicago legend is on the mic amping up the crowd. "I definitely wanted to go for something that was raw, felt like b-boy,' he said of the scene, which finds him jumping up and down onstage, dressed in hoodie, making the spectators mimic his movements and repeat his words. "The spot we had today was like many spots I've performed [at before]. It felt natural. We wanted it to feel basement — hip-hop has always felt basement. The crowd was live, they was feeling the song — I love that that feeling at a show. They had my back." Kanyeezee had Common's back for about eight songs on the new LP (as well as his last, 2005's Be), including a record that just hit the 'net called "The People" and a duet with British singer Lily Allen, "Drivin' Me Wild." "Lily's got style, she's got a certain flavor to her," Com said. "Kanye was like, 'You should get Lily Allen for this.' I was like 'OK, let me check.' I dug into her music for a while and was like, 'Man, she's perfect for this song.' It's something about her spunk that I dug. I like artists who don't care and can be themselves. It was a real good combination, it fit right." "He's being true to himself," West said of Common on Finding Forever. "I think people will be pleased that it's raw, straightforward, quality sh--." Finding Forever is slated for release on July 10.

I hope he does bring some heat with this one. Go! was a virtual masterpiece. It should be certified Platinum soon. Plus, if he would've received his due exposure, it would've been multiplatinum by now.
