That "Genius Of Love"-sampling version of "Crush" sucks bad. It has no flow.

She isn't even recognizable in the pics. She looks good, though.
I like the new version of "Crush". I like the album version more, but I don't mind the new one.

I always thought the original version of 'Crush' was genius as some early reviews of the album raved about it, but now even though I like it, the album version is really MILES BETTER
The Johnny Douglas made it sound more generic and 'out there' while the album version with its more 80's influenced instruments make it A LOT more catchy and easy to listen.
I'm team album version of Crush.

She shouldn't use the new version for the video. Bad idea, she should just dub the new version as a "remix".

Are we even getting a 'Crush' single release? Cause this new version comes from the producer myspace which teorically could suggest that he is just putting there to make people know that it does exist, and that since they couldnt release it properly, he has just put on myspace for it to 'leak' somehow
So it could be just a sort of 'leak' of something that due to the legal sampling issues will NEVER be proper released. Its's been like months since 'Gotta Work' came out and Amerie is touring NOW UK univercities so wouldnt been a better choice to have it out NOW as she promotes there?
I dont think we're getting anything else from BILI unfortunatelly

Compared to how Amerie used to look during the All I Have era (i.e. her nose) I think she's gotten a good plastic surgery job and looks better now.
ps if crush gets released it better be the album version. pff.

That cover would be SO fantastic for a 'Crush' single, WHY are they plugging 'TWUR?' WHY lord, WHY?
Crush has what it takes to at least be a 'cute' and 'easy going' single. They should release THAT everywhere and NOW

Amerie: Genie In A BottleAs a solo artist, she’s been through highs and lows, making Amerie the perfect participant for this year’s HUGO URBAN RULES. Hattie Collins meets the Korean/ African/ American singer, songwriter and producer in London to find out what’s good... and what’s not! It’s that time of year again, when HUGO URBAN RULES start searching for the hottest talent the UK has to offer. RWD are involved every year, as are SonyBMG, and true stories, neither of us put our names to just anything. This year Amerie and Unklejam join the line-up, as we set out to find the star in you. Lets see what Amerie has to say about getting that lucky break... Are you looking forward to getting involved in HUGO URBAN RULES?Amerie: Yes! I look forward to being a part of it, because giving artists a chance to shine is a wonderful way to help others, just as I've been helped on my journey. How did you get your start? My entrance into the business was a slow one. A series of events happened over the course of three years to lead me to the right situation. Meeting Rich Harrison, who at the time was an unknown, was a very important thing because together, we had great chemistry, and were able to forge a great sound. We play very well off one another. What advice do you have for the winner of HUGO URBAN RULES whose performance will be filmed by MTV and recorded for your Galaxy Radio Show?Being filmed can be nerve-wracking, don't focus on the nervous energy. Approach it as you would a non-recorded experience. Remember that people want to be entertained; they want to see you succeed and perform well. Take all of that positive energy and look at your performance as a sharing of positive energy. What can people expect from your concert at Neighbourhood on 4 December? Hopefully a great time. I love performing when the people are there to have fun, because it gives me such energy. British fans are fantastic. What do you think of British music?Well, I missed Amy at the MOBO’s cos my driver got lost, but I really wanted to see her. Do they always exaggerate stories about her? Like, you hear all this stuff, but c’mon, is it true? I do really like her voice though, it reminds me of Lauryn. I also really like Mutya and I love Coldplay - I loved them way before anyone was doing anything with them. Me and Chris were going to work together, but it didn’t happen yet. I’d still like to do something, although Kanye and Jay already did it, but it doesn’t mean we can’t make something great. I don’t care about being the first one to work with them. How about grime?Er, like Dizzee Rascal? Are they the ones that use the It Takes Two sample? Yeah, he is.Yeah, I remember the video was cool. I like them. Hmm. What will you be looking for at HUGO URBAN RULES, particularly when you choose someone to be your support act at Neighbourhood? How can someone impress Amerie?I think I’ll know it when I see it, but someone who definitely has a great voice, or if they’re rapping, a great flow and cadence. Someone who’s individual. Being a singer, being a performer, and being an artist are three different things. I’ll be looking for a great artist. Someone who can perform, sing and has personality. Someone you could sign to your own label, Feenix, maybe?Shoot, maybe! We’re always looking for new talent because good singers are a dime a dozen. Pretty face, good voice – whatever. But an artist who has something to say and can say it in an individual way, that’s hard to find. A good rapper is even harder. There’s so much nursery rhyme stuff out there. If Tupac was still here, he’d have a hard time, same if Jay-Z was just starting out now. Everyone just wants to hear ‘Girl, put ya booty on the floor.’ But I hope we can bridge that gap between the UK and the US. There’s going to be a lot of talent out there, so it’s going to be great. What advice do you offer up-and-coming artists?Look at that contract. Don’t get stuck for a long time because the record companies are trying to figure out what to do right now. It’s hard to sell an album because everyone’s buying ringtones and singles. If the labels are cutting back on the things you’re trying to do, what’s the point of signing to a big label? There has to be an incentive to sign, that’s what people have to look at now. When you put that signature down, what are the label doing? What are you getting? Make sure you sign to a label that’s really going to push you, that will work on sticking with you. It’s about cultivating that relationship with the audience, and giving you more than one or two videos. How has your label treated you?Er, you probably don’t even want to ask me that right now. That’s how I feel abut it. I personally love some of the people that work here in the UK; my publicist Shoshanna and Simon... but I really don’t want to talk about it cos I want to keep it all positive, you feel me? Well, it seems the album didn’t really perform as well as it should have?Cos they’re not pushing it like they should. Why aren’t they?We want to release Crush, but they feel there’s a lot going on. This is my thing; I’m an artist and this is not rocket science. Take Control was going good, so we knew we had to schedule the video for Gotta Work. But you need money to do a video, and by the time we got it cleared, it was late. They didn’t feel like that, but anybody with half a brain could see it was late. So then Gotta Work was going up, but it peaked and rapidly started coming down, so we knew we needed to do Crush. They said ‘Wait.’ I love the business and I studied the business and I told them we needed to do the other video, because you need to have another single when your other track is peaking. They’re talking about doing it next year, but I’m not doing it next year! So I don’t know what to tell you. I get that everyone’s filled with good intentions, but the road to perdition is filled with good intentions. There should have been no gaps. Ok, lets move on. Is it true your legs are insured for $2million?(Laughs) It’s not true, but it’s not a bad idea. Although I would insure everything, not just my legs! How do you feel about Kanye’s lyrics about your long limbs?Yeah, he has me in two songs. He’s after you!No, no, he’s engaged. He’s just a really friendly guy and he and my manager Lenny are friends, so we know each other. But he needs to make a whole song about me not just a line (laughs). Stop messing with the odd line, do an album! Thoughts on Britney? She’s a really sweet girl. I met her a long, long time ago. I was at the airport with my family and we just said ‘Hi,’ that was it. I remember she had a really sweet vibe. But I think she’s going through a really hard time right now. Maybe she should just move to the middle of nowhere to get some peace for a while. If she wants that, LA is not the place. Alright, any last words about HUGO URBAN RULES?I must say that me, nor anyone else, can say that out of one group, this single person is the best, and everyone else is untalented. Different eyes see different things, and many people who don't win competitions go on to be very successful. I don't want anyone to feel discouraged. To get the chance to have your music recorded, released as a single and featured on MTV go to Hugofragrances.com/urbanrules. See Amerie perform in London for free at the HUGO URBAN RULES concert with Unklejam on the 4 December. Register your details at Hugofragrances.com/urbanrules for invite only tickets. You’ll even get a complimentary HUGO goody bag of fragrances and T-shirts! Because I Love It is out now. MySpace.com/ameriemimarieRWD Magazineamerie.netmyspace.com/ameriemimarie
