Jewel Gets Married!
By Joey Bartolomeo
Originally posted Friday August 08, 2008 12:30 AM EDT
The singer and her longtime boyfriend, rodeo champion Ty Murray, eloped to the Bahamas and exchanged vows in a private ceremony Thursday night, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
"She wore a traditional wedding gown, while Ty wore his favorite blue jeans, white shirt and cowboy hat," says Jewel's rep. "The couple is very happy and look forward to enjoying their honeymoon."
The pair, who never announced an engagement, have been together for ten years and share a 2,200-acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas. Murray, 38, who hosted Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull-Riding Challenge on CMT last year, currently stars in the video for his wife's new country single, "I Do."
At a charity event in Nashville days before the wedding, Jewel, 34, said of marriage, "It's something that needs to be taken seriously."
Just last year, she told PEOPLE that she and Murray were in no rush to wed.
"We don't know if there's a point – we've lapped our friends who've gotten married and divorced," she explained. "We probably would if we had kids – we're just not sure we want them yet. But we've had something really special already."

Jewel posted on her website about the wedding :
Married!! Posted in From Jewel on August 15, 2008
Hi everyone!!! Well, I guess you have heard by now that Ty and I eloped and got married!!!! We just got back from our wedding and honeymoon, and I'm headed to my next show- St.Louis tonight!
So, here's all the dirt....
Ty asked me to marry him the day after we shot the video for "I Do". It was my birthday, and I was so surprised!!! I wrote "I Do" about me and Ty, of course. We have sort of been teetering on the edge of this for some time- but not really talking about it. I could just feel us both sort of contemplating and weighing everything out. And that's what I wrote the song about. How dangerous and serious it is. A Game Until Its Played was a line I wrote in a poem several months earlier, and it struck me as a good start to the chorus. Ty and I have seen failed love, failed marriages, divorced family, broken hearts- all of the risks- all around us our whole lives, and marriage and children were something we take so serious. Tying our lives to one another forever, and what that involves, is no light matter! As beautiful as love is, we have always looked at it like a wild animal- beautiful, but deserving of a healthy respect ‘cause it’s also potentially very dangerous!
So I wrote the song one day as all this was running through my mind and heart, about being on the edge, and wondering if he would jump in!
So, I wrote the song last year, and it became my second single this May.
We shot the video, and headed home where he proposed to me May 23rd. I said yes of course! We then looked at our schedules to see how soon we could get married, and the soonest I even had 3 days off in a row wasn't 'til august. We decided to elope, because it would have been too short notice to organize all the family and friends scattered around the world. Plus we wanted it to be intimate and private, with no paparazzi, and the only way to really do that was to elope. We knew our family would understand, because they know us so well and know how private we are and how bad we hate organizing parties! Plus I knew our families would just be so happy we finally got married, that they wouldn’t care how we did it!
So, Ty gave me a leather strap with a key on it, instead of a ring. (A diamond would have given us away) and I would wear that on my left hand. It was really fun to have our own little secret that just we knew about. I'd wear it on TV shows- like Nashville star- and folks would ask about it- and I'd just say it was the key to Ty's heart... :) Well, august came fast! Even such a small event was a lot of work to organize- especially as a secret!
My old key board player Jason Freese (he's in Green Day’s band now) and his wife were at my San Diego Brad Paisley show, and he mentioned he was a minister, that he had gotten ordained online - and that's when Ty and I decided to tell him and his wife about our plans, and have Jason marry us!! So the four of us went to the Bahamas and it was just magical... I can't even describe it... It was perfect! I loved my dress, I loved the cake, I loved our rings, and I loved the beach and the sunset.... It was absolutely perfect! I walked out to Otis Redding's song, I've Been Loving You Too Long. We wrote our own vows. Our first dance was Don Williams’ I Believe in You, and then we sat down to eat- by this time its dark, and suddenly we hear fire works! As a present, the hotel had a boat just off shore explode 20 min of the most amazing and huge fireworks I have ever seen! And we danced as they exploded! It was like a fairy tale!
The next day we ate a great dinner at Nobu and celebrated with the hotel at the club (they are so nice there that it’s fun- the club and the hotel made pulling the whole thing off possible- and they went above and beyond making it magical- so it was fun to hang with everyone and have a drink and relax and soak it all in!) I got to take pictures with lots of fans that night at the club (does anyone have a fan pic from that night?)Was anyone there that night that's online with us?) The next day Jason and his wife Amy, Ty and I all got on a yacht we rented, and we headed out to sea! It was so relaxing. Finally alone, and quiet, I really got to enjoy myself- I had to keep pinching myself! We explored deserted islands, snorkeled, ate such good food (the cook on the boat was amazing!) I will start to post some pics over the next few weeks- but I just wanted to check in with you all now that I'm back in the United States, a married woman!
I will see some of you this weekend on tour- its going to be so fun to sing I DO tonight- with a whole new meaning!
More later, but that's all for now, xx jewel (AKA Mrs. Ty Murray!!)

^^well... kinda holding on, even though I was hoping it would be doing a lil better with the Brad Paisley tour going on, but since I Do failed to catch on, I guess it's not so bad. Still, Jewel is probably about to release the 3rd single (Valory has been researching Til It Feels Like Cheating) and the album could still sell a few more copies.

Anyone But You would be the best next single but it won't even matter... I Do was catchy and failed miserably. She has no momentum or surefire hits; this album is good as done success-wise.

anything get a single out there - do u think they should release stronger woman on pop? I doubt it would have much more success but anything. They should also think about a worldwide release - jewel like alanis has an international fan base. alanis has sold the sameish as jewel in the states (that is under 200,000) but still has managed 500,000 world-wide - thats alot of extra sales me thinks.

There are a few songs I wouldn't mind seeing released.. Anyone But You is my favorite, but it's a bit too, I dunno - old fashioned sounding, almost.
I can see "Till It Feels Like Cheating" being released. The concept of that song is so clever, I love it. It's a dirty little love song.

Get Jewel's CD for 1 dollar: Perfectly Clear donation to All For The Hall FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 17, 2008 MULTI-PLATINUM SINGER-SONGWRITER JEWEL GIVES BACK TO COUNTRY MUSIC WITH 'PERFECTLY CLEAR' DONATION TO COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME® AND MUSEUM'S ALL FOR THE HALL CAMPAIGN Jewel, country music's newest star, is giving back to her country music roots as part of November's Country Music month: On November 28, the day after Thanksgiving, fans can obtain physical copies of Jewel's first country album and seventh career album, Perfectly Clear, by making a $1 minimum donation to the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum. Perfectly Clear, which debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart upon its release in June and features the hit "Stronger Woman," can be purchased on 'Black Friday' for a minimum $1 donation, plus shipping and handling, with proceeds benefiting the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum's All for the Hall campaign. This 24-hour opportunity is available at www.jeweljk.com . "I have come full circle with my music. It was country music that I grew up on, so to be embraced by the country music community this year has been a great feeling," says Jewel, whose new music video for "Till It Feels Like Cheating," from Perfectly Clear, world premiered on CMT in heavy rotation on November 14. "I wanted to find a way to say thank you to the fans and I couldn't think of a better way than by allowing them to purchase my album for a one dollar donation to the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum's All for the Hall campaign." "We are very appreciative of this generous gesture by Jewel," said Museum Director Kyle Young. "All for the Hall, which was launched in 2005 by Vince Gill, the president of our board of officers and trustees, is an ongoing national fundraising campaign that supports our not-for-profit educational organization's mission. The proceeds that Jewel and her fans are generously donating will help to fund the storage and preservation of the museum's unduplicated collection of country music artifacts, and assist our staff's efforts to make the collection available to the largest possible audience through exhibits, programs, books and recordings." Supporting her career launch into the country music mainstream, Jewel has had quite a busy year in 2008. With numerous visits to country radio stations across the US, Jewel's Top 15 country breakthrough single "Stronger Woman" posted more than 50,000 spins and earned the singer-songwriter a BDS Spin Award. The three-time Grammy nominee also packed in a summer and fall tour with Brad Paisley, a judging seat on NBC's Nashville Star and a live DVD release, and she married rodeo superstar Ty Murray in a private beach-side ceremony. The multi-platinum singer-songwriter will be hitting the road in January 2009 for a solo acoustic headlining tour. Tour dates can be found at www.jeweljk.com. About the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is operated by the Country Music Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1964. The Museum's mission is the preservation of the history of country and related vernacular music rooted in southern culture. With the same educational mission, the Foundation also operates CMF Records, the Museum's Frist Library and Archive, CMF Press, Historic RCA Studio B, and Hatch Show Print. New blog talking about next album! It looks like it's gonna be awesome!
Happy New Year!! Posted in From Jewel on January 5, 2009 Hi everyone!
Hope your holidays were good, and Happy New Year!! I had a relaxing holiday at home, and also got to start work on my lullaby album. Man, I think you guys are gonna like this one. Its mostly just solo acoustic and original songs, with a few covers like Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It may end up being one of my favorites! Recording at home is sooooo nice- its relaxed, more creative, and because I don't have to think about having a "hit single" I really feel free to just do whatever tickles my fancy!!! I will slip you a rough cut of something soon.
Right now, I'm on a plane to LA to host a segment for the People's Choice Awards. I am going to help a winner with a free make over, it should be fun! A funny thing happened the other day as I was trying to "get ready" for the show, I will write a separate blog on that later.
Other than that, I'm not up to too much- just getting ready for my solo acoustic tour dates- I can't wait to see u guys out there!!
Talk soon and take care, xxj

I'm not sure what to make of this "Lullaby" album...does that mean it's a kids album!? Or just softer, solo acoustic? Anything close to 'POY' would be very welcome!

Softer, acoustic I think.
Lullaby is still associated to a negative prejudice in my mind though (i.e. lullaby = boring), so I'm hardly jumping up and down with joy, sadly.
