Faith Hill's new album "Fireflies" is scheduled to be out this summer. The first single "Mississippi Girl" was released to Country stations today. You can listen to it for a limited time at this radio station site: www.us963.com/A rumored track to be on the album is a ballad titled "Paris," which Faith performed live at New York Fashion Week last year. Faith Hill - Mississippi Girl
It's a long way from Star Mississippi To the big stage I'm singing on tonight And sometimes the butterflies still get me When I'm in the spotlight
And some people seem to think that I've changed That I'm different than I was back then But in my soul I know that I'm the same way That I've really always been
Cause a Mississippi girl don't change her ways Just cause everybody knows her name Ain't big headed from a little bit of fame I still like wearin my old ball cap Ride my kids around piggy pack They might know me around the world But ya'll I'm still a Mississippi girl
Well I spend a few weeks in California They put my face on a big movie screen But that don't mean I've forgotten where I came from That's just me chasin dreams
Cause a Mississippi girl don't change her ways Just cause everybody knows her name Ain't big headed from a little bit of fame I still like wearin my old ball cap Ride my kids around piggy pack They might know me around the world But ya'll I'm still a Mississippi girl
Cause a Mississippi girl don't change her ways Just cause everybody knows her name Ain't big headed from a little bit of fame I still like wearin my old ball cap Ride my kids around piggy pack They might know me around this world (that's alright) But ya'll I'm still a Mississippi girl

OOoooo...New Faith Hill..That's interesting. It's been a while since I've heard anything from her. Last time I saw her was in the Stepford Wives.

Hmm, just heard the new song... uh, its not that nice I hope the new album isnt full of these types of songs. I still prefer Faith's Pop/AC oriented style... JMO.

This song might get her a country hit, but at the cost of her international career.

I adored Cry...cant wait to hear this. Though from remarks, I am assuming its not very much like Cry Oops, I must have skipped over the link to download. I am downloading now :) I like it. I am more used to country Faith rather than pop Faith anyways (I was a fan during her earlier country career, before she went all poppy)

"Mississippi Girl" combines an infectious groove with a simple, yet direct autobiographical lyric."
"Music is, and always should be, about evoking an emotion or expressing a passion or feeling," said Faith, "and this song does just that for me. It's easier for me to express what's in my heart by telling people to listen to what I sing, rather to what I say. I hope my fans enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoy singing it."

I LOVED Cry! I could listen to that CD all the way through (one of few I can). I'm not a country fan, but I love her voice.

Thats for sure, Cry sounded like a collection b-grade of Celine Dion reject tracks. I really Liked Breathe, and Faith though, I hope this album will be a move back in that direction, they sold better than Cry to so it would make sense commercialy too.

Regardless of how country this song is, I'm going to go and support Faith by buying the album - "Cry" was a really good album, as far as I'm concerned. :)

Anyway, I prefer Faith's country stuff, and my favorite album of hers is Faith ("My Wild Frontier" is great!). I did like "Cry," though, and looove her cover of "If I Should Fall Behind."

I heard Mississippi Girl, and liked it- I like it when an act is true to their roots, and don't get too caught up in the slick, pop crossover and all.

I heard Mississippi Girl, and liked it- I like it when an act is true to their roots, and don't get too caught up in the slick, pop crossover and all. The problem is that Faith is only going this route to get back in the good graces with the Country industry. If "Cry" had done "Breathe"-like numbers, you can bet Faith would not care one bit about the "Cry" criticism and wouldn't look back after jumping to the Pop/R&B/Gospel side. Since "Cry" didn't work as well as it was obviously intended, and the fact that she seemed to have tick off pretty much everyone in the country industry, she is now literally running back to the country industry. Her 1st single couldn't possibly be more of a blatant attempt to kiss country industry butt. Like I said. If "Cry" had made her the huge international star that she obviously wanted, then she would not be pulling this fake "Jenny From the Block"-Mississippi-style routine right now.

I somewhat disagree with the first part, but do agree with the second, I would think she is turning back to country just because her attempts outside of it weren't so hot (commercialy speaking) the same as Leann is doing. & Country critics have never liked her anyway, something i think she mentioned at the CMA's i think it was?

After she started crossing over with "This Kiss" and especially "Breathe," that is when she started getting tons of industry praise and award show trophies. Between 1998 and 2001, Faith collected 12 of her 13 career ACM trophies. That includes 3 Female Vocalist of the Year trophies, 3 Video of the Year trophies (including a Video of the Year award for "Breathe"), and at least 2 Single of the Year trophies. None of that includes her CMA award stats. If that is the mark of an industry pin cushion, sign me up. Up until "Cry," most critics jumped on the bandwagon praising her. Very few criticized her, until her "Breathe" run was coming to an end and she kept stepping further and further away from country music. Everything really started turning negative with "Cry." That is when Faith publicly declared in multiple interviews that her "true roots" were in "church music" and R&B and Gospel. That went against everything she said before, especially during her much-praised crossover years. Now, with this whole "Mississippi Girl" angle, she is going back on what she said during the "Cry" era. She is now going way back and saying that country music is where her true roots are and, most obviously, saying that she has 'not changed at all.' That also goes against what she said during "Cry." This whole "Mississippi Girl" thing comes complete with a complete image redo for Faith. New hair. New country-style clothes. No more wet cd cover photos, bra-baring photos, and bed sheets. It's a New Faith Hill, or the "old Faith" if you believe what Faith says. Having said all of that. It doesn't matter. Country radio seems to have bought into this gimmick of hers. I am sure the critics and the ACM and CMA voters will follow suit. You are right. It was the 2000 CMA awards where she did that. The irony is that she was on stage accepting the CMA Female Vocalist Award at the time of her outburst. (That was her 4th Female Vocalist Award overall from the country industry.)

lol, I don't see what the big deal is...she tried something and it backfired, so she's going back to what she knows she's good at. If buttkissing is necessary for her to make her money, why not?

No big deal here. Faith was never a BIG BIG seller until she had that crossover success- and any "backlash" happens to anyone like that when they cross over from country to pop (i.e. Shania Twain, to a degree- witness her tumultuous relationship with the country insudtry, CMAs, etc.)
Country is Faith's roots, and whatever motivation there is in getting back to those roots- whoop-dee-do. She's not going to see numbers like she did when she had her big crossover success, so I see no problem with her going back to the roots (in regards to being a big commercial maneuver).

"Mississippi Girl" is still growing on me but I'm still hoping she didn't go full-circle and completely revert to the over-the-top country stylings. I'm hoping this song is to get Country to pay attention to her so she can slide in off-genre stuff under the radar later.
