I thought Carrie's CMA performance of "SS" was one of her better emotional interpretations. She seemed really into it to me. Her face showed great emotion, and she was really conveying emotion with her arms. I know Kellie cried, but she did that in just about every live performance of that song. Crying doesn't mean a performance is great, in my opinion.

But it didn't get any attention because everyone was talking about Kellie's I wonder due to the crying, etc. It was moving-- but Carrie's was great too and deserved more recognition.

I thought Carrie's was pretty good and I know Keillie has done that performance a few times (crying during the song), but something about it being during the CMAs was just different. It really got to me that time for some reason... I guess cause she had finally made the big time and that particular performance was special.

I can't stop watching the Before He Cheats video. When she stops by that little boy, I swear I can hear a whispered "no" in there complete with a finger wag. "Maybe next time... he'll think... 'nooo'(finger wag)... before he cheats.." LOL! And that crowd singalong just gets cooler and cooler every time I see it. I swear I was about to post more substantial stuff. Let's see... - The award Carrie won at the CMT Online Awards is the "NUMBER ONE DIGITALLY ACTIVE FEMALE ARTIST." - There are some changes in the pre-sales dates announcement since I last saw it... which you guys probably already know, but anyway... Date / Location / Venue / Pre-sale begins.. 03/12/08 Sacramento, CA ARCO Arena 02/05/08 03/26/08 Evansville, IN Roberts Stadium 02/06/08 03/27/08 Dayton, OH Nutter Center 02/07/08 03/30/08 Saginaw, MI Dow Event Center 02/06/08 03/31/08 Grand Rapids, MI Van Andel Arena 02/06/08 Lastly, I'm going through CVW (Concert Videos Withdrawal). Come on, Madison Square Garden!!!

Hey MIKEY? care to share your Captain? My BFF is Bud Light and tequila...LMAO Yeah, I really didn't think it was her best vocal of that song. I was actually kinda surprised when I heard they were sending it out to radio. I was like, really lol? Hahaha, she still did a great job as usual. Just not my favorite. And I would share my Captain if I hadn't finished all of it last night. :( If you could only imagine how my head feels right now lmao...

Going in to the first chorus was a little rough and the parts following the "big note" were a bit iffy IMO.

Crying doesn't mean a performance is great, in my opinion. I actually think Kellie stole the show because of her emotion and her crying. She was really moved by the place, the song, and the "I've finally arrived" moment. It was a special day for her. Now, if she continues to cry during every performance of that song, which she might, it will start to look predictable. I don't want that for her, so she might want to pick her spots when she sings that song. I don't want the audience to turn around and say"ok, she going to cry here", "just watch". Not good. Tear up and still be able to perform the song, perfect. It's a tough balance, but she can do it.

I'm getting nervous for the Grammys... I'm going to die if she wastes her performance slot on AAG. I'd rather her do JTTW before that song.

I agree. But if the Grammys didn't let her sing JTTW last yr (when it was the MUCH bigger hit) I doubt they'd let her sing AAG this yr.

I love AAG-- but not for the grammys, agreed. I think it will be a tribute song, or BHC. Personally I am sick of BHC and would welcome just about any other song. lol I love BHC-- but it is just so old now. I remember everyone silently groaning when shakira did Hips Don't Lie at either the grammys or some other event-- when it was so over-done and so old =people were sick of it. I want people to like Carrie's performance-- not inwardly sigh of frustration since they are sick of that song. lol
Speaking of which-- someone on CF is pretty sure she flew out to LA yesterday morning (the morning after her cute Ace blog)--- so I am wondering when we can expect rehearsal pictures to start showing up? Last year, Carrie posted that she and rascal flats had rehearsed for weeks prior to the grammys. Then the final run-through rehearsals took place with the pressthere, and carrie in full costume.
I am wondering if she is performing solo--- if she had to start rehearsing that far in advance this year, since she had the tour to get ready for too? I imagine it is easier to rehearse when it is just you singing alone, then sharing it with another act.
Then again- we really don't know that she is performing solo, do we? Still could be a duet, etc. Rumor is that Brad is part of that Beatles tribute-- per my unreliable radio station (lol)-- but then there is the other rumor about him doing Ticks, so who knows.
Aside- don't mind my rambles-- I am just excited about Sunday, and a tiny bit anxious too. lol

^^^What, you nervous, never. lol I think she'll do another song besides AAG. Which one? Who knows, but it'll be a nice surprise just like last year. Carrie doing the tribute songs for Bob Wills and Don Henley really showcased her talent and this year won't be any different.

LOL I'm just excited about Sunday, not nervous as I was last year, so that's a good thing. Hopefully Carrie is feeling the same way.

^ very cool that we know carrie is in the top of the first hour, and likely singing solo, based on that article. So I guess that is it for country- brad and carrie? Sorry if I am not too dissapointed about that-- I love them both! lol
What did they mean by Brad having an "arena moment?" Do you think they were referring to the live marching band thing that he did at the cmas for Online?

I'm getting nervous for the Grammys... I'm going to die if she wastes her performance slot on AAG. I'd rather her do JTTW before that song. I don't think she can sing AAG because none of the material from CR has been nominated for a Grammy. I don't think you can perform songs from an album that has no nominated material in it. Correct me if I'm wrong. That would leave only the songs on SH (which I don't think she should do) or tribute songs (I'm hoping for the latter).

^ You can perform material that isn't nominated. A bunch of artists have performed past hits (like The Police last year), current hits despite not being nominated (like Madonna doing "Hung Up"), or performing a different hit than you are nominated for (like Coldplay doing "Politik" the year they won for "Clocks"). I don't know where the rumor an artist has to perform a nominated song came from. If that were true, "BHC" would be Carrie's only option this year.

^thanx for clearing that up Jenglisbe. Actually--- Justin Timberlake performed What Comes around Goes around last year-- and Sexy Back was nominated last year. What goes around comes around, is nominated this year. Though-- his album was nominated as a whole last year, and it therefore made any song off it fair game, right? CR is not eligible yet, since it was released after the grammy cut off period. So I am wondering-- are you confined to singing a song off an album that is nominated or eligible? who knows.

I don't know where the rumor an artist has to perform a nominated song came from. If that were true, "BHC" would be Carrie's only option this year. If I'm not mistaken, Coldplay performed "Politik" at the 2003 Grammys when A Rush of Blood to the Head was nominated for Best Alternative Album (making "Politik," an album track, fair game). "Clocks" didn't win RotY until the 2004 Grammy Awards. But Madonna is a valid example, since her album wasn't nominated for a Grammy until later. Even so, I do think it's customary for artists to perform nominated material only unless they are giving a tribute performance. It may not be a hard & fast rule, but that's more because I would expect that the Grammy producers to accommodate veteran artists with the stature of The Police and Madonna. A relative newbie like Carrie? Not so much. I think Carrie has developed a pretty good reputation for being able to do a great job with covers, thanks to her performances at the 2007 Grammys, Fashion Rocks, Movies Rock, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if that contributed to her being invited to perform at this year's Grammys, especially with the whole 50th Grammys thing going on. That and the fact that Carrie is the reigning BNA. I think the Grammy producers are, in the end, about scheduling performances in keeping with whatever theme they may have going that will make for a good show. I don't see the Grammys thinking that a performance of SS or AAG would be that buzzworthy and I don't think Carrie will be allowed to sing an album track from CR (I suppose JAD might have been attractive to the producers from a potential buzz standpoint but I don't see Carrie performing that song on TV before JAD is a single). So I think that makes a tribute performance most likely. Though after the complaints from Joe Galante about Carrie not having been allowed to sing one of her songs last year, it's possible that Carrie will be invited to sing BHC in medley with another country song. Joe Galante will probably still not be happy given that it won't be a CR track, but oh well. It's an honor that Carrie was invited back to perform for the 2nd straight year as a representative of country music.

I hope I'm not misunderstanding you, but I didn't necessarily mean a nominated song but a song from an album that has nominated material on it. What I mean is that I believe Carrie could have sang BHC at the Grammys last year because it came from the album SH which had nominated material from it (JTTW). Of course, she didn't. And, I wasn't talking about past hits. I was talking about performing a new single from a new album that has no nominated material on it. When Madonna sung "Hung Up", was it a new single from a new album that had no nominated material on it or was it from an album that had nominated material, even though it may not have been that song. Edit: Never mind. I read Dudley's post, and apparently, the song Madonna performed was from a new album that was nominated later. Thanks Dudley!

[quote author=jenglisbe board=artistaj thread=54374 post=1460729 time=1202342621 So I think that makes a tribute performance most likely. It's an honor that Carrie was invited back to perform for the 2nd straight year as a representative of country music. I have to agree with that. I was just thinking of the gravity and importance of the 50th anniversary of the Grammys- and what an honor it is for Carrie to even be there, since it is a part of history. Carrie may get to meet legends like Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner- etc. Pretty incredible if you think about it. I would love a Tammy song, and if BHC is included in a medly that is fine. I just hope it is not just BHC--- unless-- they vamp it up with some real good lighting and hoopla as the grammys often do....to make it even better then the CMT chair thing. But Dudley-- am I correct in saying that the Grammy people don't like people to do a song that has been done over and over again at other award shows? BHC has been done three times on awards shows now-- AMAs, CMTs, and CMAs. So I keep thinking that they will want something fresh and new from Carrie, to make it more of a "grammy moment"-- as neil portnow is fond of calling it. Just curious what you think. thanx. Here is a poster for the Carrie/Josh tour-- very nice!
