Until The End performance is up on rehearsals.com rehearsals.com/exclusive/Norah's quest for normality By Doug Miller Norah Jones is quiet and polite and maybe not the most comfortable person in the world when it comes to constant attention, crowds of people clamoring for her music, and her face splashed across magazine covers and all over the news. So when her debut album, Come Away With Me, was released in 2002 and her combination of jazz piano, smooth, unique vocals and varied pop sensibilities created a huge worldwide buzz that culminated in global sales of 18 million copies and eight Grammy awards, well, it's safe to say it wasn't exactly what Jones expected. "It was crazy," Jones said during a revealing recent interview at the famed CenterStaging complex in Burbank, Calif., where she was filmed performing and answering questions in high-definition for broadcast on CenterStaging's ground-breaking, behind-the-scenes Web site, rehearsals.com. "There was a lot of stuff going on and I was really happy that people liked it, but it got a little nutty for a while." Fortunately for Jones, she now has enough popularity and clout within the industry to get choice gigs and to work on her own schedule. And that's exactly what she's done. After her second album, Feels Like Home, came out in 2004, she took a year and a half off to play in different bands in New York, take up a little guitar and, as she said, just "be normal again." "Certainly, during the first album, we were doing a lot of promotion and a lot of stuff that wasn't necessarily playing music, and it wasn't as fun. I became a musician because I love music and it was sort of an easy job because music is my hobby. "And it's really cool when you can do something you love for work and make money on it. So when it became hard and I started to feel like, 'Oh, this isn't fun,' I thought, 'What am I going to do to change it?' "So I don't know how we did it, but we just did less promotion and just played more music, and that makes it fun." That doesn't mean that Jones doesn't still promote her music –- after all, the reason she and her band appeared at CenterStaging and on rehearsals.com was to hone their chops on the material from her upcoming album, Not Too Late, and a 2007 tour. "The new album has some playful elements to it," Jones said. "It's still pretty intimate and there are a lot of stripped-down songs, which I think people are used to if they know my music. "But I wrote all these songs and I hadn't really written a lot on the first couple of albums. We did a few cover songs and I wrote a few songs on them, but they were mostly songs written by people in my band and good friends of mine. "And on this album I wrote all the songs and I wrote a few of them with my bass player, Lee (Alexander), and a couple with a few other friends. But I really feel like they're my songs this time, and a little bit more personal. I think there's a lot more of my personality in this album." Jones has always been exposed to different kinds of music. She is the daughter of famed sitar master Ravi Shankar, and she grew up in Texas listening to Billie Holiday and Bill Evans and Miles Davis plus Willie Nelson and a host of other country artists. Now she's comfortable in her own skin as a working musician with a future as seemingly bright as her recent past. "I'm not really too worried about my career," she said with a smile. "I like making music and it's nice when people respond to it, and they like it. But I'd be happy playing in a teeny little club as I would in a big theater. "So as far as my career goes, I guess my goals are just to try to keep making music and try to not make the same album over and over. And try different things and have a good time doing it."

Until The End lyrics
You've got a famous last name But you're not to blame Baby I see you for who you are
A one time apple queen, And a one time tramp, And an old time movie star.
You're a shell picker, Of the pickiest kind, But you always find the ones to keep.
And in or out of bed, You keep you're head wide open, 'cause ya don't only dream when you're asleep.
Like a child ... you remember, But I forget ... all my dreams.
I used to think, That someday I'd relax a little, And be more like you.
Then I realized, How silly that thought was, Needed to stand in my own shoes.
And from over here, I can see you cry, Don't even try … to pretend.
'cause he's hurt you, So many times, Baby don't go back again.
Like a child, you forget, But I remember everything..and every sting.
And through all the games, We'll both stay the same, As we've always been, Through the fat and thin, Until the end, Until the end.

That'd be great...
According to IFPI - Norah had the best selling female album in 2003 (CAWM) and again in 2004 (FLH) worldwide, so maybe she can do it again in 2007.

Do you think how many copies she'll sell in the first week? I hope she'll get Justin's number, but not sure if Jan30, the overall sales will rebound from the January slump.

ARTIST: NORAH JONES
SINGLE: THINKING OF YOU
NEW YORK (Billboard) - With more than 30 million records sold worldwide, it's easy to forget that pop-jazz phenomenon Norah Jones has released only two albums in her career. "Thinking of You," the first single from third set "Not Too Late" (out January 30), is a slow, bluesy love song that sounds just like her other nostalgic, low-key ballads. Jones' smoky vocals sail dreamily over safe Wurlitzer chords, light brass and faux-jazz bass, but all she does is conjure a sea of easy listening. After a joyful, jammy disc with a side project called "The Little Willies," New York's premier piano chanteuse could have easily risked much more. Completely uneventful, this track is a perfect soundtrack to writing coffee shop novels.
