Public.fr - August 30, 2007 Joachim Ohnona (translated) Mika works on Madonna's new album !Madonna currently works on her new album, awaited for the end of the year. Among collaborations envisaged, we heard about Justin Timberlake, Timbaland or Pharrell Williams. But, to the general surprise, Mika, the new pop talent, could put his voice beside Madonna's voice, in particular on a electro-pop hit on which he will appear as featuring. ----- How exciting! It first started out as rumors, then we KNEW he was working with her, NOW his vocals be on one of her album tracks! WOW! This will open the gates of exposure for our Mika to a WHOLE bunch of American madonna fans buying her album. I wonder if he's also helping her produce a few songs! MAN, this news is so great and it makes me actually want to look up the release date for Madonna's new album.

Mika vs. Mika: Mika might have to change his name!!!! This is a vid which was shown on the Belgian national news this evening... skynet.rtbf.be/index.html?pag...parag=rep57749Heβs one of todayβs most popular artists... The British singer Mika is a pop phenomenon, but he might have to change his name. A Belgian reggae singer, also named Mika, wants to go to court to defend her name. Thatβs what you can call a real mess. On the left of the screen, Mika, whoβs doing great with over 600 000 albums sold. On the right, another Mika, a Belgian reggae singer whose sales are much more modest. They have only one thing in common: a very catchy but confusing pseudonym... The belgian Mika copyrighted her name by the SABAM (belgian association for the protection of artists and intellectual rights) in 1983 and she claims the British singer is trying to steal her name. βItβs a real prejudice when I contact music companies or event organisators for they donβt know whoβs who anymore and some even think I stole the name βMikaβ although itβs been my pseudonym for years. So I really have the feeling Iβm not in control anymore and canβt go on under this name anymore.β There is one Mika too much on this earth and the Belgian one is determined to sue the huge multinational thatβs Universal Music. The British Mika has contacted his lawyer and might change his name. There is a famous precedent in history: the Staracademy (French equivalent of Pop Idol) winner Nolwenn had to add her lastname to her pseudonym and sing under the name βNolwenn Leroyβ after an another Nolwenn complained. This anecdote raises the question of wether or not an artist has the right to protect his name. βArtists can protect their real names but also their pseudonyms for they belong to their patrimonium, just like their imageβ. In order to win in court, the prejudice will have to be proven. Mika versus Mika... The Belgian singer wants a friendly arrangement... It might be the jackpot for her... ------- This is ridiculous, but I guess it's the business. I don't think Mika....OUR Mika will have to change his name...but Universal might have to fork over a few payments. But seriously, has ANYONE heard of this other Mika before. Oh whatev!!

Still, there's a reason you (or at least your label people) have to check on names like that. Two examples:
-Nirvana was the name of a semi-popular 60s pop-psych group who get far more respect now among psych/FM enthusiasts than they did in their day. When the 90s grunge group came around, they had to pay some royalties for the name.
-The Spinners was the name of a British folksy type group that wild somewhat popular among certain scenes. When the American soul group released their music internationally, their name was altered to The Detroit Spinners to differentiate. All parties were happy with that distribution - no lawsuits.
I doubt Mika will have to undergo a name change, but, he and his people do owe the first Mika for the infringement. I imagine they'll settle easily enough, though.

I think it's most likely that he'll just have to change his name in Belgium. The British group Busted had to change their name to Bust in the Netherlands because of a local Dutch band with the same name. Similarly, Diddy is still called P.Diddy in the UK.

Mika's career is "up in the air"www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4-2007410726,00.html (you're gonna need to highlight, copy and paste) HEREβS MIKA flying through the sky with a bunch of balloons. My exclusive snap was taken on the set of the video for new single Happy Ending. βI didnβt expect to reach the mile high club like this,β joked the star. He penned the ballad last year in his basement then recorded it in London and LA with a gospel choir backing. It will be out on October 15, with the vid hitting TV screens next week. ------- The link has a few great high res pictures of Mika filming the "Happy Ending" video. Also, the article states that we should expect the video for "Happy Ending" to be released sometime next week! So, keep your eyes peeled on Youtube!!!

Is that Shakira in you avi, Greg? ??? More Mika news!! Perez Release 4Sept.9, 2007 worldofwonder.net/archives/what_perez_sez.wowPerez is not only the Gossip Gangsta, but he's also become a major tastemaker in the music biz. UK sensation, Mika, wouldn't have had half the buzz here in the US without Perez singing his praises on his website. Thanks to Perez sneaking his tracks way before Mika's Life in Cartoon Motion album dropped, I had already committed "Grace Kelly," "Love Today," and "Billy Brown" to memory like a crazy Dashboard Confessional fan. We met up with Mika on the rooftop of his West Hollywood hotel (and, yes, I know that sentence is classic clichΓ© popstar reportage) and Perez fell asleep waiting for MIka to show. With Mika's greeting of "Wake up, ****er" starting things off, we knew things would eventually devolve into food and fluids flying all over the place. Here is the aftermath. Find out how things came to this on What Perez Sez ...about the VMAs on Tuesday, September 11 at 9PM on VH1. For more info go to perezsez.vh1 and for more juicy gossip, of course, there's perezhilton. β Glenn Gaylord, senior producer/field director What Perez Se ------------ How exciting! This new show is gonna HAVE to get ratings! And with Mika featured in it, again it's GREAT EXPOSURE! Plus, us Americans can see another blue-moon moment with MIKA sparkling on our television screens!

Happy Ending (Radio Edit) download.yousendit.com/180540DD35DB18D2sounds SLITHGTLY different. They added a little beat to it and cut out most of the vocal pauses. It actually reminds me of what they did to Enya's "Only Time" when they released it to mainstream radio. I like it, though!!! And more pics from the "Happy Ending" shoot. There's a bedroom scene, now! :o lol The video definetly has an interesting look to it...especially with that added bedroom scene...the vid's set to premiere on TV the 21st, I think. *sigh* CAN'T WAIT!!!!

The British group Busted had to change their name to Bust in the Netherlands because of a local Dutch band with the same name. Similarly, Diddy is still called P.Diddy in the UK. Another good one is the Charlatans, who are known by that name in all but the US, where they're the "Charlatans UK". The British group Blue October has a (UK) attached to their name in the US so no one confuses them with the group that sung "Hate Me". Back on topic, it has occurred to me that "Relax (Take It Easy)" is probably Mika's best chance for a hit here.

Mika watching Amy Winehouse perform: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XGxwLYp0PwIt's very brief, but he's focased on at around 2:03. I just found it odd that HE was the one in the audience and not on stage.

MIKA - "HAPPY ENDING" MUSIC VIDEO!!!www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvBIyJf6el0I'll say that it's very different from what I was expecting, from looking at the pictures. It exceeded my expectations though. It's amazing what you can do with a computer! But yeah, after watching the vid, it RE-proves to everyone Mika IS an angel! The video is kinda sad, though. heh, it's bittersweet. But I love how artistic yet how simple the video is. Damn, I wish Greg were here to share this Happy Ending moment with me. :( Expect an Studio 6 HQ of the vid sometime next week (when it offically airs on TV, someone is bound to record it and add it). ;)

In the debut episode of the new CBS drama Cane, the song "Grace Kelly" was playing in the background when they showed this girl's computer. I wish they had mentioned it at the end when they say which music was heard during the show. Oh well.

Mika singing Police's "Can't Stand Loosing You" for Radio 1's 40th anniversary: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgW02_j5fwAIt's so strange hearing Mika on a song like this. Very different. Maybe he'll experiment with this kind of music on his future albums.

Oh dear God why?
"Can't Stand Losing You" is my #1 favorite Police song. When I saw them in concert over the summer, they proved they could still rock it live too, even after all these years.
This version is... well, I mean, I expected a different arrangement, but just... yikes. Maybe I'll get used to it and grow to like it.
All that said, Armand Van Helden's beats are hot, as usual.

Can you repost the Happy Ending edit? ??? I'm not the original person who uploaded it but FYI, you should just watch the video to hear the new edit - Youtube sound quality is better than the audio that was posted before. I hope they eventually officially release the radio edit.
