It's a double CD, and the release date is now May 8th, not April 4th as previously reported. Red Hot Chili Peppers confirm final album details 'Stadium Arcadium' is out on May 8 Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced the final details surrounding the release of their new double album. 'Stadium Arcadium' will hit the shops on May 8 as the successor to 2002's 'By The Way'. Originally conceived as a 38-song trilogy, 'Stadium Arcadium' will be a 24-track double LP with titles including the first single ' Dani California', which will precede the album. Other songs set to feature are ' Snow', ' Animal Bar', ' Wet Sand', ' Charlie', ' Desecration Smile' and ' Hard To Concentrate'. Speaking to NME.COM about the title of the release, singer Anthony Kiedis said: "'Stadium Arcadium', in the end it has a very dreamlike feeling of we on Earth reflecting the cosmos on the heavens, and we on Earth reflecting it because that's where our inspiration comes from. It's more romance of sound or whatever retarded passions exist in your soul. It's kind of a romantic affair." The LP also marks the first time the band have managed three consecutive records with the same line-up, following the return of guitarist John Frusciante to the fold for 1999's 'Californication'. However, Kiedis refuted the suggestion that this means the band had fully conquered their demons. "It feels great, and I hope it stays that way, but I wouldn't say our troubles are all over. In some ways it's good to hold on to a few of your demons... I don't think our troubles are completely over. We're a bit bent in the head and I think that serves us well." Red Hot Chili Peppers entered the studio last March with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, System Of A Down) to start work on 'Stadium Arcadium' and having played three shows at London's Hyde Park eighteen months ago to a total of 300,000 people, the band plan to return to the UK for a tour later this year.

"Californication" and "By The Way" were great albums. Hopefully, "Stadium Arcadium" will be just as good.

Even though the band had completed 38 songs, they narrowed the set down to 25 for the two discs of Stadium Arcadium. However, the Chilis still want to make sure the leftover music is heard somehow, and Kiedis describes a potential, complex plot to release it all. He told MTV.com that the current plan is to release each of the 13 extra tunes as a bonus track on different versions of the album sold in different places. "We're going to try and do that with the independent record stores across America, and for all the monster chains," he said. "We'll service everybody with a different bonus track, because we have them." fmqb. uh...okay?

Rolling Stone gives the album 4 stars out of 5! The one thing I was worried about in terms of this being a double album was the possibility that it would have a lot of filler, but the reviewer doesn't seem to think that's the case. I can't wait to hear this! Here's an excerpt from the review:

Billiboard Review: "Stadium" is the word, and the message is loud and clear. Twenty-three years into their career, the Red Hot Chili Peppers sound euphoric and enormously alive. Distilling the ecstasy of their live shows into 24 new songs, "Stadium Arcadium" is a mature showcase of concentrated power with riotous groove jams, super-sized hooks and transcendent vocal arrangements. It runs the gamut from classic funk rock ("Tell Me Baby") and crisp, hard pop ("Snow [Hey Oh]") to deep funk ("Hump de Bump") and soft-rap balladry ("Hard to Concentrate")—they even venture into hypnotic blues metal ("Readymade"). "Stadium Arcadium" is one wild melodic rush, and Rick Rubin's airy production squeezes the essence out of a monster—without taming it. A double disc makes sense because no real stadium show pulls the curtain after only 50 minutes. The Peppers' strongest set since "Blood Sugar Sex Magik." —Sven Philipp

Chili Peppers, hot againBy Elysa Gardner, USA TODAY NEW YORK - To the uninitiated, 28 servings of Red Hot Chili Peppers may sound like a recipe for indigestion. But for fans of the veteran rock band that goes by that name, the supersized portion is no doubt cause for excitement - and perhaps some surprise. On Tuesday, the Chili Peppers released Stadium Arcadium, an ambitious two-CD set that has earned some of the best notices of their 23-year career. Spin called it "a record that mixes old-school Chili Peppers funk with mature melodicism ... a powerful statement of purpose," while Rolling Stone hailed Stadium as "a late-career triumph that could pass for another, lesser group's greatest-hits collection." Those who have traced the Chili Peppers' rise and occasional stumbles may have doubted they would stick around long enough to achieve such a milestone. Since their muscular mix of guitars and grooves propelled them from the Los Angeles club scene onto top 40 radio in the early '90s, the musicians have endured a fluctuating and often fractious lineup, drug problems and enough general drama to fuel at least two biographical jukebox musicals. "We're a strange lot of people," frontman Anthony Kiedis, 43, acknowledges. "I hate to sound cliched and say that artists are temperamental or sensitive, or emotionally out of order, or a little bit psychotic. But we all are. The good thing about us is that we all have a willingness as individuals to keep changing, and to at least make the effort to deal with our bull____ ." Kiedis says that Stadium found the band members - who also include bassist Flea and drummer Chad Smith, both 43, and guitarist John Frusciante, 36 - enjoying "a nice patch of personal well-being and, therefore, group well-being. It was kind of a non-stop burst of creativity from before we even started to write. We didn't think or talk about it too much; we just started playing, and a year and a half later we had a double record." As the romantic and sometimes spiritual imagery on Stadium's songs might suggest, those good vibes didn't stem purely from a renewed sense of camaraderie within the Chili Peppers. The bandmates and their longtime producer, Rick Rubin, were all happily cultivating other partnerships outside the studio, Kiedis says. "It was probably the only time in the history of this band that I can remember when all four of us, as well as Rick, had fairly recently fallen in love. And it was a real sense of love, not just, 'Oh, I'm dating this girl.' That was a discernible energy. God bless the female muse." Kiedis, who has been linked to various models and to other artists ranging from director Sofia Coppola to designer Yohanna Logan, won't say who his muse is at the moment. But the singer, who in 2004 published a memoir, Scar Tissue, chronicling his past affairs and struggles with heroin addiction, is more forthcoming about other aspects of his personal progress. "I spent the majority of the first part of my life working very hard at alienating myself from the establishment, and from humankind in general," says Kiedis, who has been drug-free for more than five years. "That was kind of the ethic that I was exposed to by my father, and I felt different to begin with. So when I saw that it was kind of cool to be that way, I thought, great. "But at a certain point that becomes unsatisfying, and kind of lonely. Now I feel a lot more connected to humankind at large, and I recognize the similarities rather than thriving on the differences. I'm done with being the alien, and feel more a part of this giant mass of energy that we all participate in." That mass, it seems, would include his bandmates. "Flea is one of my oldest friends; I've known him since I was 15. But for many years, I think we forgot we were friends, and lately we've really kind of come full circle in terms of appreciating each other. We're a little less competitive, less judgmental. "There's still a weird, brotherly kind of competitive undertone to most things, but that's just 'cause we're knuckleheads, I guess. "John and I have a different relationship. We haven't been buddying about like we used to, but every now and then we'll go to a show together in L.A., and it's always fun. We'll dance and smile and talk about some esoteric philosophy for 30 minutes on the sidewalk and go our separate ways. And with Chad, there's definitely a buddy energy, though he of everyone in my band probably lives the most sort of secretive drummer lifestyle. But we all love and support each other." And, Kiedis adds, they all value the love and support of others. "I love that I can get into the elevator at this hotel, and some bald guy in a three-piece suit with a briefcase will get in and start smiling, and he'll go, 'Dude, I just have to tell you, I love your music!' Then I'll go for a walk in the park and some 10-year-old boy will come up and ask me for an autograph. "That's a bonus and a blessing, and a great part of this bargain."

So I guess Hump De Bump is their next single then? (Or am I the last one to know that?)
I think that's a good choice, although Snow would have been my first pick.
