Anthony Kiedis Opens Up About Being a Dad SUNDAY OCTOBER 14, 2007 01:00 PM EDT
By Charlotte Triggs and Shruti Dhalwala
Along with Shiloh, Suri and Apple, here's a new celebrity baby name: Everly Bear.
Confirming rumors in the rock-and-roll world, Anthony Kiedis told PEOPLE on Saturday he is the father of a son, whose first name was musically inspired.
"We had a long list of names, but suppose it came to me by way of the Everly Brothers, which is one of my favorite bands," the Red Hot Chili Peppers singer said at a fundraiser for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in LA. "And sometimes last names make good first names."
Kiedis's girlfriend Heather Christie came up with the rest. "The mama came up with Bear," Kiedis says. "That made sense to me because he's from me and I feel like I'm part of the bear clan, and I think it's nice to have a little bit of earth in your name."
Kiedis and Christie, a model, reportedly welcomed the new addition to their family on Oct. 2 in Los Angeles.
"Being a father is different, it's much different," Kiedis says. "I sleep when I can, but he's letting me off pretty easy so far. He's a very calm and peaceful kid."

Nov 20, 7:35 AM EST Red Hot Chili Peppers Sue Showtime
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Red Hot Chili Peppers on Monday sued Showtime Networks over the name of the television series "Californication," which is also the name of the band's 1999 album and a single on it.
The lawsuit alleges unfair competition, dilution of the value of the name and unjust enrichment, claiming the title is "inherently distinctive, famous ... and immediately associated in the mind of the consumer" with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
"Californication is the signature CD, video and song of the band's career, and for some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right," the band's lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, said in a statement.
The television series stars David Duchovny as a novelist suffering from writers' block and a mid-life crisis.
The show features a character named "Dani California," which is also the title of a Red Hot Chili Peppers song released in 2006, the lawsuit noted.
The suit also names the show's creator and executive producer, Tom Kapinos, and two production companies, Twilight Time Films and Aggressive Mediocrity, Inc.
A call Monday to an attorney for Showtime was not immediately returned. Attempts to find a listing for Kapinos were not successful.
The suit seeks a permanent injunction barring Showtime and the other defendants from using the title "Californication" for the show, damages and restitution and disgorgement of all profits derived by the defendants.
In July 2007, Kapinos told reporters at a Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills that he first heard the term in reference to Oregon.
"Apparently in the '70s there were bumper stickers that said 'Don't Californicate Oregon,' because Californians were coming up there, and I just thought it was a great, great title for this show," said Kapinos.

Anthony Kiedis: Surfing Makes Me a Better Dad WEDNESDAY JANUARY 09, 2008 10:00 AM EST
By Nicholas White
Life's a beach for Anthony Kiedis. Literally.
"My goal for the year is to get better at surfing, which I think will make me a better father," the Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman, 45, told PEOPLE Tuesday. "The more time I spend in the ocean, the better off I am when I'm around [3-month-old son Everly Bear]."
Looking forward to 2008, first-time dad Kiedis said, "Just to be present and in the moment with my boy, that's about all I can ask for."
The 45-year-old musician – who adds that Everly Bear "sleeps like a dream this kid, it's great" – hints that he and his girlfriend, model Heather Christie, may already be planning another family expansion.
"I'd definitely like to give him a sibling in the not-too-distant future, something close in age," Kiedis explained.
The rocker joined celebs Jason Bateman and Amy Smart for The Art of Elysium's decorating workshop at L.A.'s Shriners Hospital for Children, where he helped kids paint a Ford Escape Hybrid for charity on Tuesday.
And Kiedis already has big plans for his own son's artistic development. "I'm certainly going to be playing lots of music in the house. I think that has an effect on kids, the music they grow up with," he said. "I'm certainly not going to impose my artistic will on my boy. I'll just expose him to a bunch of stuff, and whatever he gravitates to, support that."
Kiedis, whose father John was a film actor, says that's how he first became aware of the arts.
"My dad introduced me to a lot of literature, and music, paintings, a little bit," Kiedis says. "He played a lot of really cool music, so I got exposed that way."
