Killers Unveil Name, Date For B-Sides Collection
September 24, 2007, 11:45 AM ET
by Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Killers have settled on a name and a release date for the B-sides collection first reported here last month. "Sawdust" will arrive Nov. 13 via Island Def Jam and will feature Lou Reed guesting on a new track titled "Tranquilize."
The tentative song list includes "All the Pretty Faces" ("When You Were Young" B-side), movie soundtrack tunes "Shadowplay" (a Joy Division cover from Anton Corbijn's Ian Curtis biopic "Control") and "Move Away" ("Spider-man 3"), as well as a cover of Mel Tillis' "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town.
Songs that were written during sessions for 2006's "Sam's Town" but didn't appear on that album are also likely to surface on "Sawdust."
In related news, the Killers will on Dec. 1 issue their second annual holiday single, "Don't Shoot Me Santa," which will raise funds for the RED Campaign.

They could put out fart sounds and I would still trip over myself to buy it. Sam's Town was my #1 album out of 50 of 2006 and I can't wait for more Killers, even tho I have a few of the songs on this B-sides CD.

They could put out fart sounds and I would still trip over myself to buy it. Me too. I absolutely love "Hot Fuss" and "Sam's Town". As a whole album, I even prefer "Sam's Town" to "Hot Fuss".

It was a bit of a turn-off to discover many songs were re-recorded. I don't think I'll be getting this after all...

It was a bit of a turn-off to discover many songs were re-recorded. I don't think I'll be getting this after all... I wasn't thrilled by that either, but it looks like it's only 4 out of the 17 tracks that suffered that fate, so that's still good enough for me. I'll just have to be careful to note which ones are which.

Billboard.biz:
The Killers' b-sides and rarities compilation "Sawdust" enters The Billboard 200 at No. 12 with 82,000. It's led by the single "Shadowplay" (a cover of the 1979 Joy Division song), which rises to No. 22 on the Alternative/Modern Rock radio chart this week ...

Is 'Tranquilize' a single anywhere? I'm charting it now since I think it's a UK single or something. I think it's among the best songs they've ever recorded! I LOVE it!!

It was the UK single off Sawdust in October/November. It peaked at #13 there.
