Mariah's IWTKWLI is the most recent heinous example that comes to mind
but
Celine's "You Shook Me All Night Long" has to be the all-time worst

Celine's "You Shook Me All Night Long" has to be the all-time worst Is that the one that she did the air guitar in the live performance?

Horrendous: Congrats on simultaneously sucking the melody out of a song and sounding like an escaped mental patient, Xtina. She was on some Chinese or Japanese gameshow, and they kept putting the key up higher and higher. Just shows how high her voice can go.

Christina Aguilera covered a song called Besame Mucho? I've never heard of it and can't find it on Youtube. Can I get a link?

All stannery aside, but anybody who thinks "I Will Always Love You" is one of the worst or THE worst cover EVER needs to get their mind. LOL @ oversang. Whose version is more memorable? Whose version is one of the best selling singles EVER? Whose version went on to win Grammys and other prestigous awards? Whose version gets covered the most on AI? The majority of the people in the world doesn't even know that Whitney's version was a cover. Dolly who? Whitney >>> the rest. Tell that to a Country fan and you will probably get an answer of "Whitney who?" Dolly Parton is one of the biggest Country artist of all times... and I'm not even a country fan. And # of selling singles do not equal level of quality -at all. OK, I wouldn't say that IWALY is one of the Worst Covers Ever, but I do think that her version is not better than Dolly's. Again, sometimes truth, honest emotions can be best transmitted through smooth, delicate singing than belting out of your lungs with no purpose at all than to try to show YOUR voice instead of the song's lyrical emotion. IMO at least. Another example of that is Celine Dion's destruction of "The Power Of Love" Like I said...

She sings the first two-thirds of the song with tenderness and emotion.

^ Yes, but those last 45 seconds kind of obliterate any trace of tenderness from people's minds, and frankly, who could blame them?

Both Carrie Underwood and Celine Dion's versions of "Alone" are horrible.

After reading all of these, there is still nothing that comes close to approaching the uncool fail that was Celine's AC/DC cover. It's the musical equivalent of cold diarrhea.

Susan Boyle - Wild Horses. She's soon to release 'Up To The Mountain' that's sure to be sh*t too.

(Sorry to bump a 14 year old thread, found this when searching to see if there was a topic on this already.)
Savs House - "My Tears Ricochet"
This popped up in my Spotify recommendations because I've been listening to a lot of Taylor Swift in preparation for the new album, and I'd listened to some music by this person when they were previously apart of a band. On first listen, I think this is the most repulsed I've ever been by a cover and I don't even know how it was possible she messed the song up this badly lmao. This completely misunderstood how the beautiful and haunting charm of the original, and turned it into a weird dumpster fire of a dance-pop breakup track after the first minute. I literally had to turn it off when a sound effect of a deep voice saying "fuck you!" was put into the chorus 😭

the main one that comes to mind for me is push by ryan gosling which was on the barbie soundtrack. I know it was supposed to be funny but as someone who loves the original quite a bit it was a painful listen. definitely my least favorite song on that soundtrack.
another one is wherever you will go by charlene soraia, which is a cover of the calling. I had to hear it for a rankdown recently and again, it's not a song that should be covered, and although I get liking the cover it doesn't do it for me at all.
and then obviously gone away by five finger death punch, a cover of my favorite band of all time the offspring whose singer wrote the song about his gf who died in a car crash or something. and yet again you just can't really cover this song, and the cover doesn't have the emotion that the original has at all.
there are a few more I could say here but that's all that comes to mind for now.

I think most of the ones that immediately came to mind for me have already been mentioned, but maybe not all: "American Pie" - Madonna "You Shook Me All Night" - Celine Dion "Dancing in the Street" - David Bowie & Mick Jagger "Sweet Child O' Mine" - Sheryl Crow any cover of "Landslide"

(I sometimes find it funny when people criticize them because I wonder if they mean it or they hate them because they’re “supposed to”. I also love the Braids’ R&B cover of bohemian rhapsody. It’s great!

It’s great! Well I actually dislike "American Pie" in general, but I think Madonna's version works even less than the original; it misses the point of the song for me. The Chicks' "Landslide" is too 'pretty' for me. I love Nicks on the song because you can feel the lessons learned. The Chicks' version doesn't feel lived in.
