I never really understood the point of these to be honest. I find them a complete waste of time, and always just press NEXT if it comes on. Some would say they help "complete" the album, especially those concept-type albums with a story -- but I still find them to be annoying.

It depends on the album. Like in the Janet Jackson albums, particularly in Rhythm Nation 1814, janet and The Velvet Rope, I thought they worked really well. Also on Prince's The Gold Experience. They were unusual on his, but they were interesting. With Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds, some of the interludes were more like another song than just something in the middle.
Besides, if the interludes/intros/outros are not that good, I can always skip through them.

Yes, especially now when it's all about downloading single tracks.

Ha! I was going to start exactly the same thread soon. Weird.
I think it depends how they good are. My brother hates them on 'Miseducation of...' but I LOVE them. Similarly, I LOVE the ones on Discipline with Keoko!

Gotta go with "sometimes."
While I'm just as hits-oriented as the next guy (buying many greatest hits type compilations or whatever in many cases), when I do buy albums, I usually have a greater appreciation for the ones that are more than just a collection of songs. If the songs work together to form a cohesive product, that's the height of album artistry.
So basically, if the interludes and whatnot are working toward an artistic purpose, then that's cool. If they're just annoying filler or seemingly purposeless, then they're a waste.

Most of the time they're pointless to me. I listen to them once or twice and maybe enjoy it, but eventually I just wish the album would be only songs.

I guess I can appreciate if an artist feels like they need to put in interludes, intros, etc to kind of, complete the album as whole and make it feel like an experience. I'll at least give them one listen, but if they aren't musical interludes such as on FS/LS or others, I just don't really see the point in listening to them.

I loved them on American Doll Posse and Stripped among a few other CDs, but for the most part I hardly ever listen to the interludes/intros/outros.

The only exception I can really think of is Lita Ford's Stiletto album, the intro on that one is well fierce.

I like them, but only if the album is long enough to support it. I don't want to feel like I've been cheated because the album is full of short interludes and filler.

Moderation is key with them. I don't mind three or so, like Christina's albums, but then you have rap albums, or people like Janet, who load it with almost as many interludes as songs. That's annoying.
Overall, I'd say they can be done away with.

I voted waste of time, but there are a few I will listen to. What really aggrivates me is when they put a long intro attached to a track, for example, Lil Kim's radio interlude on Magic Stick. I want the song by itself!

If its like a mini song then its okay. But if its like noise, lame talking, or moaning, then no. No thanks.

It depends on the album and how the listener listens to the music. Intros and interludes can help with the flow of an album, especially with concept albums.
However, if all the listener wants to listen to are the big singles and ignore the rest of the album, then intros/interludes are a waste of time for that listener.

I'm not going to vote. I like them sometimes, and others I don't.
I loved the interludes on Mariah's Rainbow, but I usually hate them on rap albums.

It depends, on the album, on the artist.
Two examples: I think OutKast make a very good use of the interludes on their records, while the ones on Janet's albums need to go, I feel they're pointless and more importantly they interrupt the flow of the albums.

Yeah, I gotta go with depends and I agree with the moderation point. An intro/outro is usually fine. Maybe an interlude in the middle that's like a minute of short instrumental or something like that. I don't care for Eminem's and other rap-interludes or even Janet's on her albums. I also don't like it when the interlude is included on the end of the actual track like on Lauryn Hill's album. If they have to be there, I'd like them to be there as their own track, lol.

God only knows why they put those on the album, Janet has a HUGE problem with them.

I usually find them annoying, especially if there is talking. I too hate it when it is attached to the end of a track, or it is not a clean break with the next song. I usually listen to CDs on shuffle, so I prefer each track to be distinct rather than melding one into the next.

janet and TLC had great interludes. IMO, interludes don't detract the flow of an album, rather add to it.
