I hope the sales continue to increase. 20-25k is a great range to be selling in for a second single.

I don't see it. She may have another hit or so, but I can't see her being a major artist. She just screams novelty artist to me. Agreed. She simply does not live up to what some perceive her to be or what her label is trying to convince us of. I don't think the artifice could maintain much longer. I think so too. She'll be a one album wonder if you will. 3 or 4 hits from this album, but then after that I see a major sophomore slump and her never bouncing back after that.

I think she'll be a sort of more-pop Alanis. She may not get a huge hit after this album, but she'll keep putting out albums and have a strong fanbase.

"I Kissed A Girl" hitmaker Katy Perry is trying to persuade Lindsay Lohan to make a cameo appearance in her next music video.
"Lindsay loves what I do," Katy says, "and we have chatted and for me it would be the icing on the cake to have her on board."

Thats just crazy talk, she wrote or was major writing credit on every track on the album. Thats talent right there. I'm willing to bet the sophomore album will be a major smash.

I'm afraid your superficial perception of pop music is coming undone. Her ability to write doesn't warrant future success and her talent doesn't warrant originality.

Sorry but this girl's talent is minimal at best. Yeah songs like IKAG and HNC work as a catchy song to listen to once and awhile, but that's the end of it. She's lacks a lot in songwriting talent, and especially in creativity. I won't even talk about her voice. And Ur So Gay and Waking Up in Vegas are the only other songs I think are worth mentioning on the album after the 2 singles.

Look at it this way.... If Capitol gives Katy the Rihanna treatment she will be around for few years.
The only downside for Katy is if Jason Flom is infact leaving Capitol, because then there goes her support system.

Yeah I think the album post track 7 gets really mediocre, and her songwriting could use some polishing. She CAN be the next big thing, but she'll have to step it up a notch.
I think they should release only 2 singles from this one and get a second record out not too long after, à la Rihanna.

She has in no way a "powerful voice" imo, her live voice is absolutely atrocious. It makes me think they must enhance the crap out of it in the studio for her to even sound as good as she does on the album. There's only two "great commercial pop songs" in the album, imo, and that's entirely thanks to the talent of Dr. Luke's producing skills. The lyrics of IKAG and HNC are nothing special what so ever, IKAG's are borderline bad actually. Anyone can write "i kissed a girl and I liked it", not exactly skills there. Then there's her whole facade which I find annoying, she obviously wrote IKAG for cheap publicity, when she had never even attempted what she claimed in the lyrics. Not to mention the album is the second worst reviewed album of the year on Metacritic, and in the bottom 100 albums of all time. I don't think she's quite that bad, she's just the definition of a manufactured pop star is all. This album is good for about 3 tracks that you sing along to once in awhile, but nothing substantial, and it does not make me view her as a talented artist.

And also, IKAG was written by 5 different people, and HNC was penned by 3. So we don't even know how much she contributed to songwriting. My guess is it was very minimal.

I think you saying she can't write is bullshit, she wrote several of the songs on the album ALONE and many of them with just one or two other people. This girl's got talent.
Not everyone can write amazing songs like "Thinking of You" or "Mannequin" alone. Let's see other 'manufactured pop artists' do that.

Stephen Innes, Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Katy Perry, and Cathy Dennis are the 5 writers of the song. Also I didn't say she "couldn't write" obviously she can, because she did, I just don't think she's a very talented songwriter, especially based on the 3 she wrote herself (Mannequin, Thinking of You, and One of the Boys.) The lyrics in those songs are simply average to me, but that doesn't mean she couldn't become a great songwriter. As of this album though, as I said before I think her overall talent as an artist is very minimal. In 5 years, who knows maybe I'll be singing her praises, but not right now.

My suspicion is people arguing she can't write haven't listened to the album. Of course people are free to have that opinion, but that's just how it comes off to me. And especially those who are arguing she should only release 2 singles.

I bought the album the week it came out and I know most of the songs by heart but I still consider her lyrics weak and at times downright awful.
Also, for the 2 singles thing, it's not because I don't think the songs are good - it's because I'm not sure how well they'd do. Maybe Thinking Of You, but I don't really see anything else? I LOVE Waking Up In Vegas but I don't see the hit potential. Hopefully I'm wrong. :)
