Moving on, I hope she releases two more singles after this. WUIV and then IYCAM. :) Exactly! WUIV would be another big hit, and IYCAM would be at least a mid sized hit with decent longetivity... I kind of see it like her 'Walk Away'

Waking Up In Vegas has to be the 4th single. I really hope it will be. In the commercial ads for her album, it's name-checked.

They just announced on Entertainment Tonight that Katy will be performing IKAG on the Grammy telecast with videos of fans lipsynching to the song behind her.

Katie Couric's Grammy SpecialKatie Couric catches Grammy fever with an hour-long special airing the Wednesday before the awards show. Justin Timberlake, Lil' Wayne, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift sit down with the CBS newswoman for one-on-one interviews when "Katie Couric's 'All-Access' Grammy Special" airs on Wednesday, February 4 at 9 p.m. "Couric has an innate ability for getting people to reveal themselves in a uniquely intimate way," says executive producer Susan Zirinsky. "This broadcast highlights her talent and showcases a new side of these celebrated artists like Justin Timberlake." Also appearing on the special are Grammy nominees Jonas Brothers, Carrie Underwood, Metallica and Ne-Yo. "The 51st Annual Grammy Awards" will be broadcast live from The Staples Center in Los Angeles, on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. on CBS. Link: www.etonline.com/awards/grammys/2009/2009/01/70041/

I see Katy's fans are hiding in shame after that performance, as they well should be. That was EASILY the worst performance of the evening. Terrible. Even my friends at my Grammy party who were fans were trashing it.

Lol, whose hiding? This thread is usually buried. But anyway, Katy's performance was the most fun to watch of the night, and you obviously agree since you made the point to come in and comment about how much it stood out. I don't even care how bad her vocals are anymore. She's the new controversy queen of american music. Get used to it baby!

Nothing about that performance was controversial except perhaps its level of suckage.

Polarizing would perhaps have been a better word.

Polarizing would perhaps have been a better word. Polarizing would imply two extremes of a spectrum, and then you'd have to sell the idea that someone actually thought it was a good performance.

It was entertaining. It was funny. If you don't have a sense of humor, I could see why it would piss you off. The greater musical crime of the night was the Jobros singing with Stevie. And Taylor and Miley, who were both vocally off and boring.

You can have talent and be able to sing on key and inject humour into your performances, too. No, nothing tops Stevie and Jonas Brothers. But hey, at least someone up there could perform.

Of course you can. Nobody did that last night, though. I'd rather listen to Katy butcher one of her own songs vocally but give a hilarious performance in a giant glittering fruit figure skating outfit than most of the other performances.
If you thought she was going for a serious, vocal performance I could see why it would be labelled the worst, but if you expected that I think that's hilarious. Now away with your generic criticism!

Maybe she thought she was performing at the British Comedy Awards. If I were one of her handlers, I'd tell her that for every performance.

Yeah, I mean it's a music awards show - to expect some level of musical skill, how ridiculous and downright generic! We demand more no-talents!

It made the performance much more enjoyable, because I wasn't comparing her to all the divas who've had so much less success this year.

I liked it for one reason only. I think so many pop stars take themselves too seriously. Even people like the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift-somber adult clothing, relatively serious performances. Katy is the only one that I see just all out having fun and not taking herself seriously. IT was colorful, over the top, and not really meant to be taken seriously. I think we occasionally need a funny, light hearted pop star. Other than that, you could tell she was nervous as all hell get out and flubbed a few of the vocals.
TheOnlyWay-was there a performance you liked? I have seen you in a few different threads now bashing/declaring that artist's performance the worst and embarrassing. Which ones were ok to you?

LOL. I love having to defend myself like this. Is it really too much to ask that the Grammys, of ALL shows, should be the one where only truly VOCALLY talented people are invited to perform. Why would you invite people with a proven track record of either vocal mediocrity or downright vocal fail to the Grammys? I can tolerate a couple of Katy's songs, so I don't hate her but I will maintain that she is a studio creation after watching that performance and it was painfully obvious. If I want comedy, I will go see a Judd Apatow film, not watch the Grammys.
To answer your question, LPL, yes, I was generally underwhelmed by the Grammys this year and I had such high hopes, given the amount of relevant artists that had their best output honored with nominations this time around. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the Rap Pack + Pregnant MIA's performance. It was on-point, even if the cameras seemed to be shy when it came to focusing on Maya for more than 2 seconds at a time. I actually enjoyed the JoBros & Stevie. Not only that, they seem to be improving vocally. I skipped Alison Krauss and Plant out of protest. Chris Martin sounded lovely at the piano but everything else about that performance was a dire mess. Jay-Z did not belong in an acoustic version of that song and VLV was at its most manic and unfocused. U2 was ho-hum. I don't even remember any other performances. Oh yeah...That old school tribute was good. Lil Wayne and Robin Thicke were good but the ending annoyed me, even if it came from a meaningful place. T.I. & Justin were good. I think they just picked the wrong performers this year. They should have had Kings of Leon perform and Jazmine Sullivan.

You really don't have to get all emotional-it was a valid question because you did seem to hate so many of the performances. I generally agree with your assessment on the other artists-the Swagger performance was probably my favorite. Justin also impressed me with both of his performances-I like him as a pop star, but his performances usually leave me unimpressed. Last night was a bit different.

It was a really bad night at the Grammys, plain and simple. Nothing really stood out, and a lot of it was dire.

Her performance was painful to listen to but she looked like she was having a blast on stage. But what happened to the My Grammy Moment?

I guess I couldn't get past her voice to enjoy the rest of her performance. I didn't mean to come across as emotional, LPL. Your question was valid and I just wanted to answer as directly as possible. I thought Justin tried too hard to match Al Green in that duet but his performance with T.I. was borderline awesome.

I guess I have compromised my standards lol. When it was 2000-2002 I remember being ALL about voices for pop stars-I bashed Britney for lipping all the time or sounding like shit when she sang. Same with other pop stars that couldn't sing. Now, meh. For pop stars I expect lipping-the fact that she even tried to sing live kind of impressed me LOL.
