Pretty good stuff; not terribly distinctive but should be strong enough for a Top 10. Except for Emily West, it seems like Capitol's recent roster has been rather strong.

This song is now at #24, has a +529 bullet and has 212 stations spinning it. It really is incredible to see it continue to climb the chart despite hootie lacking any mainstream relevance in the last 10 years.

The 292 number is from the MB panel that provides the Aircheck chart and fairly closely corresponds with the Billboard chart as well.
The 529 number is... a bigger number. It does tell you more about what a bigger sample of stations is playing, but on this board you don't see that MB panel quoted very often because it doesn't correspond with the charts. I admit it, the main charts aren't everything. They're just what I look at.

Billboard reviewed the song. www.billboard.com/bbcom/content_display/reviews/singles/e3id3157507ac800210f06fc364bf5005a1Don't Think I Don't Think About It DARIUS RUCKER Producer(s): Frank Rogers Genre: COUNTRY Label: Capitol Nashville Within the past year, a herd of pop/rockers, from Bon Jovi to Jewel to Jessica Simpson, have taken a shot at the country market. Latest on that list is Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker. Rarely has such a move sounded more organic than on this South Carolina native's potent debut single. There's a sense of purpose that makes Rucker feel like a member of the country family, rather than calculating interloper. Produced by Frank Rogers (Brad Paisley, Josh Turner), "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" is steeped in steel guitar and fiddle, providing an ideal setting for Rucker's warm, muscular voice, alongside a poignant slice of poetry that oozes regret, hurt and longing. This single is that perfect combination of solid production, a great vocal and finely crafted song that adds up to a hit. Sounds like country may have a shining new star.—Deborah Evans Price

I'm really surprised with this one-- but I liked HTB's "Goodbye Girl" so I kinda liked them-- but I didn't know what to expect and I like this one a lot. It's probably my favorite "crossover" artist single so far.

Glad this song is doing well. Should break the top 20. It has a 90s feel to it that I enjoy.

Glad this song is doing well. Me too. It's probably one of my top 5 singles currently rising, and I think it has a very good chance to make Billboard's top 10. It's funny that you bumped this thread up because I just finished watching a YouTube video of Darius performing a song in-studio called "It Won't Be Like This For Long," which will be on his upcoming album.

Great song. Thanks. Hootie & The Blowfish will be coming to this area in the middle of July. I'm sure he'll perform a couple of his solo tracks. I hope I can make it to the show.

This song is pretty good but I have to say I am amazed that it is taking off in the way it is.
It's the surprise hit of the summer in my book, and I am glad to see radio spinning it.

Is there a release date for the album? With the way this thing is moving it would be wise to get the album out quickly. I can't wait to hear the rest of this album. There were a lot of country sounding songs on almost every album from HTB. From watching Darius over the years he seems to really love diversity in music . He did the pop thing, the R&B thing the classical thing and now country. He may just have his best success in the country music industry.

The album is going to be released in September. Last night Hootie had a concert in Dallas in which Darius said the album would be out Sept. 19th. Looking at the calendar that is a friday so he's off by a few days.
He was also leaning toward naming it "Learn to Live" which has been one of the songs he's been playing on his radio tour.

Hi everyone! I'm back for the first time in quite a while! :)
I'm excited that Darius Rucker has finally begun trying to make the transition to country radio (I've said again and again how I believe his voice is ideal for this format) as so many Hootie & The Blowfish songs have always had country sensibilities in them, especially "Old Man & Me" with its downhome storytelling narration, "Let Her Cry" with its immense emotional appeal, and "Running From An Angel", "Home Again" and "Another Year's Gone By" with its country-style musical arrangements, just to name several.
While the current rise of this single is surprising in the sense that this is a newcomer to the format, and it's exceptionally rare that a newcomer will rise rapidly up the chart and rather act as a slow-burner in terms of chart runs, beyond that I'm not at all surprised this has performed most successfully already.
Despite Hootie & The Blowfish not having a genuine hit since "I Will Wait" (the lead single from "Musical Chairs" which, despite not charting the Billboard Hot 100, became the band's second #1 hit on the Adult Top 40 and a Top 15 hit on the Mainstream Top 40), Darius Rucker is that kind of guy who most, even when they may not care for his band's music necessarily, can't help but like, because he just appears and acts nicely and natural, and even when they find his band's music to be generic and predictable, they nonetheless believe Darius' voice is most earnest and compelling, and that automatically makes the songs sound believable and convincing to many, regardless of their opinion of the band overall.
Country radio is a format that values earnestness and the simple values as core to the music, and so it is no surprise that Darius Rucker is soaring as it is right now. :)
It's probably a stretch to suggest this will go #1, since newcomers almost never reach the pole position off a debut single. But I do think this is going Top Five. :)
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

He's actually pretty knowledgeable about sports and I actually agree with him about the Dolphins. They were actually not too far away from being a 7-9 team last year, as six of their losses were by 3 points. Ronnie Brown was emerging as an HUGE offensive force last year before an injury ended his season just before the midway point.

I only got to see the Best of replay and it looked like at sometime he sang. They didn't show it if he did. Did he sing? I think if he didn't do music, he could be a great sports radio guy. Him and Eric Kusileas did a great job together.

The first time I heard this one the radio I seriously had to do a double take. If I hadn't known any better I would have thought it was Eddie Montgomery from Montgomery Gentry. He's got the voice and the sound to do country music and to do it well. I'm verrry interested to hear what the rest of the album will sound like.

I went to see Hootie last night. Great show. I was stoked when Darius started singing Don't Think I Don't Think About It. That's the only song from his forthcoming cd that he sang. I always felt Hootie had a tinge of country to their sound but it was definitely noticeable in their live show.
The Drew Davis Band opened and I don't much care for them.

From gactv.com:
July 23, 2008 — As the lead singer for Hootie + The Blowfish, Darius Rucker’s had quite a bit of success on the pop charts. Now he’s done well as a solo singer on the country charts: His debut country single, "Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It," hit the Top 15 this week on the Country Aircheck list.
That achievement comes on the heels of his Grand Ole Opry debut, which took place last week. Plenty of country’s most significant acts have appeared on the Opry stage — from such late legends as Hank Williams and Patsy Cline to current members Dolly Parton and George Jones — and in terms of the Opry’s history? well, don’t think Darius doesn’t think about it.
"To be on the Opry by myself, and standing there and singing songs that I wrote, the hairs stood up on the back of my neck," Darius told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I went in for sound check and I had my guitar, and I go in and I’m standing there on that circle and I’m singing. Along with playing with Al Green and playing at the Apollo [in New York], it’s [one of] the three greatest musical moments of my life."
Darius’ country album, Learn To Live, will feature guest appearances by Opry members Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.
