This isn't a good comparison. Madonna's voice is actually pretty good and only got more powerful over the years, and her voice conveys emotion really well and works on many different styles of music. Britney's voice is just okay.
Edit: WOAH, 4 votes for Britney and 5 for Madonna? I really thought Madonna would have a large lead.

They kind of cancel each other out, but I guess Madonna. Britney's is a little more stylized than necessary.

I actually think that they have similar styles in terms of charismatic and uniquely stylized singers. I think Madonna has a true ability to express emotions with her voice, however I feel Britney is able to do that rather well too. I think they both have charisma in their songs, range is similar in my opinion none of them are whistle register players. In terms of power I do think that Britney is stronger. Just listening to Stronger, Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know, Oops...I Did It Again, Overprotected, I'm Not A Girl... and various other songs off of her first three discs and I do think that Britney has more power then Madonna does. However I think Madonna has much better pitch. Both do quite well for clarity.

Wow- this is such an easy one for me (not than either artist is known for her vocals), but Madonna clearly is the better singer to me. Perhaps I am ignornant, but honestly, I think most good bar karaoke singers sound much better to me than Britney, but lacks Britney's stage presence, charisma, and just star power....

Madonna, her live performances are much better now then they used to be. I like Brit, but I do not like her voice. Especially live.

Britney, Madonna has very limited range, she's honestly not a very good singer. She's just incredibly marketable.

Agreed. I like Britney but to be quite honest... her voice sucks. She sounded great on her first two albums but her voice seemed to go downhill after that...

HMM this is tough, Britney has a sweet voice but too robotic, Madonna always sounds better on ballads and has more emotion than BRIT...i give the edge to Madge.......but having heard brit as a youth, she has more vocal range than madge

No competition...Madonna! With that said--and I've said this before--I've never considered Madonna to be a great singer, though she does a better job on low-tempo songs like "This Used To Be My Playground" and "You'll See" than with any of her up-tempo songs.

IMO, Madonna is a rather good singer. She conveys emotion better than most in her field and her pitch is spot on. For decades now, people have made countless remarks about her voice, which for the most part I've disagreed with. Even in her early career, singles like "Borderline", "Angel", and "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" displayed both decent ability & technique. Of course, by the next album (True Blue), her voice had already become more seasoned and continued to improve.
As for Britney, I don't think she's untalented and it's a damn shame that term is used so loosely. Although I must say I've never been a fan of her technique because it gets rather irritating, whether it be the baby voice or that faux-country twang she applies to her recordings. The technique featured on Blackout, taking into account both her maturity and the heavy synthesizing, displayed a Britney Spears I'd like to hear a lot more of.
But anyway, Madonna.

Britney Spears showed decent vocals in her earlier albums but the recent ones, while the songs are catchy, just feature her throaty whisper which isn't quite singing. Madonna took some singing lessons while filming for Evita, and while some of her songs are mostly dance beats with electronic voice, she has demonstrated singing on other songs.
