David Cook's Brother Passes Away After a long and valiant struggle with brain cancer, "American Idol" winner David Cook's brother Adam died at 1 a.m. Sunday morning at a hospice in Terre Haute, IN. A family friend told RadarOnline.com exclusively, "Adam passed away peacefully. He was surrounded by his family, including his wife Kendra, his children, his father and his step-mom, among others." David was at the airport Saturday night about to leave for Terre Haute to visit his dying brother, but his family told David they thought it was more important for him to honor a prior commitment to attend the 12th annual Race For Hope in Washington, D.C. Sunday morning. David followed his family's wishes and went to Washington instead to participate in the race, so he was not there when his brother passed away. Because David had known how sick his brother was, he had left his tour a few weeks back to say his goodbyes to his older brother. "The family thought that Adam would go much sooner than this, actually," said the Cook family friend. "That's why David left his tour a few weeks back so that he could be with Adam. They said their goodbyes then." But Adam, 36, rallied briefly after that and David returned to his concert tour. "He took a turn for the worse this weekend" says the friend. Last year, friends of the stricken lawyer, arranged a $45,000 trip on a chartered medical jet to Los Angeles so Adam could see David perform on Idol. www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2009/05/david-cook%E2%80%99s-brother-adam-dies

My condolences to David and his family! I'm sure this is hard for all of them.

Amidst David's ongoing family crisis his concert here in the RP will continue this coming Saturday night. I'll keep you posted about the event that will happen tomorrow. The 2 Davids said that this will be their largest concert since they graduated from AI. An approximately 30,000 to 50,000 people will attend the concert tomorrow. Here by the way is David's performance on one TV show here in the Philippines..

Is this guy doing anything? I'm not hearing anything from him. Is he flopping that badly?
Well, male Idols never do much anyways.

^ Light On did well on Pop radio, and he is already Platinum, so I think he is doing well. He just released a new single "Come Back to Me" which is very good, but I have no idea how it is doing on radio.
David Cook will be performing at the Idol Finale on Wednesday, per the LA Times. :)

The back-to-back Davids concert here in Manila were staged successfully. So sad, they were leaving today for their next commitments in their respective schedules.. David Cook played some of his songs on his album and "Declaration" and "Come Back To Me" are starting to grow on me.. Here's one clip of his performance last night, Always Be My Baby, which is his BIGGEST single here in the RP even after AI ended and his 2 singles from his debut album are played here in Philippine airwaves. He mentioned that it is the first time his band ABMB, post-AI era.. I just grabbed it from YouTube. Sorry for the screams, chuckles and giggles. ;)

David Cook will be performing at the Idol Finale on Wednesday, per the LA Times. :) Ooh, wonder what he's going to sing. He already did Come Back to Me on Idol a few weeks ago, so I guess it could really be anything at all. David is certainly doing well. His album is Platinum and still selling well, he has one Platinum single and another one inching towards that mark (Light On). Sales-wise, I'm sure RCA are very happy. Come Back to Me is doing great on HAC right now. David just came back from the sold-out show in Manila with Archie (reports are that 115K people saw them, a new record for the venue), and other than the AI finale he should be doing some other TV promo this week (IIRC Ellen and Jimmy Fallon are scheduled).

David Cook - Charity Single available May 20th
David Cook will be on the American Idol finale show this Wednesday, May 20th performing the song "Permanent" which he co-wrote with Raine.
The song will be available as a download on Itunes that night and all proceeds will go to David Cook’s charity for brain tumour research that he recently set up for his brother Adam, whom he lost a couple of weeks ago to cancer.
We’ll have a direct link to the Itunes single on Wednesday night, so be sure to check back here.

Oh wow.. that is amazing. I already own the song, but I will buy it again for the charity. Me too. Also, I believe the version will be the live performance from the finale, which will be different from the album version. I will buy it both because I love the song, and to support the charity. This will be the first time David sings Permanent since his brother died. Actually the last time he performed it he got so emotional he couldn't finish the song. I really hope he has the strength to make it now. This is a very brave move on his part. Here's a live video of Permanent from David's tour, sadly missing some of the first verse but very powerful nonetheless:

Permanent is now up to #21 at iTunes even after the performance tracks from S8 have become visible (it was pushed back down from a high-to-date of #17 by the appearance of Mad World, Heartless, Ain't No Sunshine, and A Change is Gonna Come). The album is in the top ten at iTunes now - currently #8 overall.
Amazing performance from Cook.

Where are all the David Cook fans? Moved on to Adam Lambert? That's probably for the best. RCA and 19 certainly have all their eggs thrown in the Lambert basket; Cook is done.

I think David's biggest problem is that he's on the same label as Daughtry AND Adam Lambert. RCA just seems to treat those two better, with David as an afterthought, although he's sold well.

any word about a next single? Not yet. Probably won't hear anything until CBTM peaks on HAC. I don't think RCA has treated him badly. At all. Daughty is a big star so he deserves priority treatment. Adam is being launched, he's supposed to be pushed right now. Cook has just finished up a round of promo. He's about to be on his 3rd (or 4th depending how you count) song, they're not supposed to be spending tons of cash on him at this point.

RCA may not be treating him badly, but they're not treating him WELL either. Look at Katy Perry and Lady Gaga-he's sold just as much as them, and they're all on their debut albums, and yet Katy and Gaga are touring all over the world, performing on TV all over the world, doing huge music festivals, etc... and yet David has still yet to get any sort of significant radio play, and is touring colleges, state fairs, and amusement parks. He also rarely makes a TV appearance either. It just seems...odd.

Though I think that has more to do with Katy and Gaga having big pop hits than with how the label is treating him. He's doing small theaters and such like a debut rock-ish act without a big pop hit, and state fairs like an act from a big family TV show, I think. He could stand to open for a bigger act at some point too IMO.

I think David should open for Nickleback or Linkin Park or someone like that. Then, after his second album, he can launch his own headlining tour if things go well.
I wonder what his next single will be?

Considering you were calling him done before his album even dropped why does this shock me? You always were such a bright spot. What did you stop going to DCO since no one wanted to hear your constant doom and gloom? A year ago there was all this talk about RCA was pouring so much money into him and overhyping him, now we're comparing him to Adam? Good grief. If Adam doesn't blow up into the biggest star Idol ever created watch how fast they turn on him. Contrary to what some want to believe Adam isn't a proven seller or a proven star yet.

I think this is a good idea as well. Opening for someone like that would help expand his fanbase and have him play to new people who might not have heard him before, and he can play larger venues as well.
As for a single? I really thought A Daily Anthem or Declaration would have been good choices, but RCA seems to not agree with that assessment.
