Everyone is being so cynical with this song. The first two pages are filled with nothing but compliments...now page 3 is turning to the dark side. What happened? Most of the people who posted on the first two pages are Jessica fans, not necessarily country fans.

o my goodness. everyone thinks if you add a steel guitar you're a country singer!
what inspired this "going country?" ...as if its an acting job or a hairdo change. personally i don't like it at all and her vocals aren't my favorite.

zach, you are my hero. you are the ONLY person who sees past all this crap! we hate faith hill, leann rimes, shania twain for going pop... but bring on jessica simpson! lol.
country radio is crazy... and going south if you ask me (no pun intended lol)! it seems to continue to follow the money... especially when it comes to tweens and their parents' pocketbooks.

Did you read any of the posts on the last 2 pages? Jessica has always wanted to make a country album, since day 1, but her label would never allow her to do it. They finally came around after she refused to record for them again until they permitted her to do country music.

I just felt like her record label pushed her into releasing an album that she probably didn't even want to release. That whole era was just awkward and I'm actually glad not too much was made of it. For this country record though, I feel like she might ger her fanbase back, she's on track! Oh please.

I think Jess is putting on cowboy boots out of necessity. Her last pop album didn't do anything. The single, Public Affair, raced up to #14 on the Hot 100 and fell off just as quickly. Followup releases didn't even sniff the pop charts.

She recorded country style songs for her last record, but her label made her redo most of the songs. She's got the pipes and the voice give it a chance. Like I said before she has country in her.

First of all Jessica and Rachel Proctor wrote "Come On Over" together...so I guess that means she writes her own stuff. And I don't get why people think singers who don't write their own songs aren't credible. Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood (Some Hearts) didn't write their own songs and they are as talented, if not more talented, than Kellie. Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you start bashing other artists. Anyways theres room for everyone. I love them both.

MOD NOTEI just hope fans of certain female country acts (none in particular) don't hate on her just because she's "competition" for their country diva. If you want to post your thoughts on Jessica Simpson's current single in this thread, fine. But what you are NOT to do is come in here and pre-judge people's motives. Whether or not you intended it to, this comment reads as bait -- all it does is fan the fan war flames. If you want to post about why some posters on this board have the opinions that they do...DON'T. It's a non-starter as a conversation. The subject of this thread is Jessica Simpson's single, not her fans and not fans of other artists. Stay on topic. SUGARLAND All I Want To Do TAYLOR SWIFT Should've Said No DARIUS RUCKER Don't Think I Don't Think... KENNY CHESNEY Flip Flop Summer JESSICA SIMPSON Come On OverKELLIE PICKLER Don't You Know You're... taking off better than Kellie Pickler...
Oh no, you didn't!! Fans like you turn people off from Simpson...Pickler is a great talent in the world of country music and she writes her stuff !!
Ernesto, a personal attack is not the appropriate response. You should feel free to disagree by posting statistics that show how Kellie's song took off faster in a comparative timeframe (if it did...I don't know either way). You should feel free to make an argument about why first week spins aren't that significant because of the curiosity factor involved. But getting angry and going off on someone you disagree with is something that will result in warnings and further action from the Pulse staff. Please review the Pulse rules so that you know what is and is not acceptable on this board. dabava, for future reference, please identify (and/or link) the chart to which you're referring. And if you're going to attempt to analyze the speed with which this song is picking up, show some numbers to back up your point. Posting some blanket conclusion without any reference to things like how long a song has been at radio, the meaning of the chart you cite or the typical country chart dynamics diminishes your credibility. For everyone, Pulse is a general music message board. As such, it isn't a place where super-fans of any artist can try to impose their views upon the rest of the posters. If you are going to get angry reading anything less than sunshiny about your favorite artist, this really isn't the place for you. There are a number of posters in this thread who are posting in the Country forum for the first time. I'm going to take this opportunity to remind you that the dynamics in this forum are a bit different than in other forums at Pulse. If you're going to post here, you should know that the Country forum regulars pride themselves on maintaining a high level of substantive and analytical discussion. We have many posters in this forum with a deep history following country music and the country music charts. We all have our favorites (and those are all over the map), but the focus here is on analysis. Please bear that in mind.

The song is doing great and it's only been out for two days! Can't believe it's doing better than Kellie Pickler's single, whoa!
Look like country radio is receiving Jessica nicely.

Look like country radio is receiving Jessica nicely. Or there's a generic initial hype over the song. The only reason its doing better than Pickler is because of the large markets, which also have a big pop market, and that's going to lead to more plays and more buzz. While Pickler's doing well in Small Town USA, Jessica is getting the urban plays, and generally, that places songs higher on the chart.

www.allaccess.com review: Jessica Simpson Come On Over Columbia Jessica Simpson is the latest to join what's getting to be quite a little parade of former divas, poppers, hip-hoppers and rockers to go Country, including Bon Jovi, Eddie Money, Jewel, Darius Rucker, Peter Frampton and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Admittedly I am not a fan of 'post Idol,' pop fan, and can't tell the difference between Ashlee or Leona or Jordin or Rihanna. In fact, I have to admit that I didn't even know what Ms. Simpson's 'pop' stuff sounded like- Kelly and Mary Lynne both said it's kind of 'breathy.' So, at least I came in with no pre-conceptions- I mean I had been hearing from Rector for months that the song is a smash, but you know how that goes. If I were to stack up the 'stiffs' that he got me to play while I was in radio you could probably build yourself a nice little house. But guess what- he was right- it's a flat out 'smash.' Written by Jessica and Rachel Proctor, this is my favorite single of the year . The hooks are huge, it's up-tempo and Jessica nails it. So, put away those biases and play this thing loud. By the way, to my knowledge Peter Frampton and ELP have not gone Country yet.

Bobby Brown? lol.
Anyways, I hate that he describes her as "post Idol." She's been making music for a decade now, and has some pretty sizable hits.

I'm not sure if there was even a general point in you posting that as it is completely irrelevant but oh well, high five for Kenny.

The general point was that, in perspective, it's really not taking off that great if an album track is taking off faster than it. I really don't get how that's so irrelevant but oh well, high five for Jessica, too.

It just bugs me when people describe all of her older music as "breathy." She didn't start singing like that until 2003/04. Up until then, she was mainly a belter.

Wow, four pages of comments in two days. Granted , I didnt have exactly high hopes for this, but I find it extremly vanilla. The only thing overtly "country" was the steel guitar. Her delivery , voice , and the song itself bored me to tears. Just another carpet bagger as far as Im concerned...

That should shoot Jessica up to #56 on Mediabase on just day two. She's going to end up having a nice Billboard Hot Country Songs debut if this keeps up.
