She's unfortunately not going to go much higher, and reaching the top ten would take a major miracle, but Carrie Underwood & Rascal Flatts will both pass her by the end of next week, which is really disappointing.

No miracles are coming her way, but I'm impressed (and a bit surprised) that the song is still getting support. Starts off the new chart week with a small but respectable gain. But if LC does stay on, it'll have to fight with Jason Aldean for #15.

Has anyone heard officially what the next single might be? And I'm hearing Last Call all the time on the radio now. Not sure where are those programmers were when it was still moving up the charts, or peaking. ???

This should've been a bigger hit

But if LC does stay on, it'll have to fight with Jason Aldean for #15. And LC won that battle, with a gain of over one million AIs. I don't think it will be able to hold off "She's Country" this week, however. The next two in line after that are Martina's "Ride" (about 1.2 million AIs back and whose gain LC basically matched this week) and John Rich's "Shutting Detroit Down" (about 2.9 million back but gaining at a much faster clip). I don't really know what the label is doing, but the song seems to still be testing well so maybe it makes sense to hold on for now.

Up to 33 weeks and counting, but not even among the first 5 songs lined up to take the next group of top 10 openings. Entertaining chart run, makes no sense but I'll go along with Dudley's analysis.

Her label isn't giving up on this song just yet, as she's scheduled to perform tomorrow evening on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' on NBC.

Her label isn't giving up on this song just yet, as she's scheduled to perform tomorrow evening on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' on NBC. Looks like she'll get her 34th chart week next week, spending her 5th consecutive week at #15 on the 3/14 Billboard chart. Maybe Jay Leno can propel her to greater heights, but Martina and John Rich look like they're ready to pass her on 3/21. Everybody passes her, it seems, but I'm enjoying this long top 15 run. And of course if LC did take off at this late date, improbable as that is to imagine, it might manage 40+ chart weeks. Long Black Train, watch out!

Well at least she's getting an extra spin as Lon Helton's guest this weekend on 'CCUSA'; her performance of 'Last Call' from the CMT series '330 Sessions' airs near the end of the first half-hour of the countdown.

Lee Ann does hang on for her 34th week this week. And, as of today, she's on track to hold on for another week, possibly her 6th consecutive at #15. Dierks Bentley will likely go recurrent, but she will also likely be passed by John Rich.

Still hanging in there, with a positive number after 3 days. And if Billboard kept Miranda on this week, Lee Ann can afford even a medium-sized loss -- so I'm now fairly confident she'll get week #35. It's not obvious what this is doing for her, but I can't help rooting for a song to spend its 6th straight week at #15.
Especially when there's nothing I like better on the radio than this one, even after two-thirds of a year. Terrific performance.

Zazie---Your astute observation on another thread that country radio would sound dramatically different if there were more women in the PDs chair is undoubtedly spot-on; Lee Ann is merely the latest in a long line of victims including Ashton Shepherd, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwod & numerous others who haven't received nearly enough success on the singles or album charts despite nearly unanimous critical acclaim, which sadly does not tend to equal success on the charts.
This is indeed the best song on the radio right now from an absolutely scintillating CD, and her nonstop words of praise for essentially all of the artists on last weekend's edition of 'CCUSA' (she was Lon's guest hostess) displayed tons of class and admiration for her fellow country crooners, male & female.
This is definitely the most disappointing chart run of any single in recent memory.

I'm disappointed that I completely forgot about her CCUSA appearance last weekend, but I suppose I can catch up with clips online. Dierks Bentley was the co-host the week prior, and he singled out "Last Call" as his favorite song in the countdown. I'm sure he's not alone among the artistic community.
I applaud MCA for sticking with this single; it obviously has a strong base of support at radio. I'm not sure what about the cost-benefit of continuing to promote this, but it seems to be worth the risk. I honestly don't think another song on the album would receive any more airplay than "Last Call." I hadn't expected this to even climb so high, but I'm happy. Quite a few really good songs have faltered around #10-15 in the last few years because they aren't sung by artists who have a certain "blind devotion" from radio. It probably won't go top ten, but I think industry professionals are probably taking more notice because it's hit this glass ceiling. Six weeks at #15---that's a little embarassing to see for Music Row folks who love this and also a sad statement about country radio these days.

Thanks, Marv. Yes, this is the kind of song I think would do better if women were making more of the airplay decisions about what women would like to hear. I could be wrong about that. There may be other factors hurting Lee Ann, such as her ability to put across a song. (Sorry, cheap shot. But Pam Tillis, Trisha, Patty can all sing and they're none of them on the radio either.)
But the idea that she's disqualified because of being over 40 must be floating around out there somewhere. I can't prove it....

She managed a 36th week this week, once again at #15 (this time, it was Martina McBride who passed her). She lost over 1 million AI though, and I can't imagine her reversing things over the weekend, so it looks like "Last Call"'s impressive chart run is about to come to an end.
I don't know where the label goes from here - there's nothing immediate as a second single, so it should be interesting to see which direction they go in. Safe ("I Found It In You")? Traditional ("Solitary Thinkin'")? Completely out there ("The Bees")?

I'm for The Bees as well, just because I'd like to hear it on the radio. Solitary is very good, but it's too much like Last Call. Found It might do better on the charts, but The Bees would be so much fun.

I would like to see either The Bees or The Story Of My Life released. I actually think the latter would make a good single choice. It has that positive, life affirming message that radio salivates over, yet Lee Ann still does it well and it doesn't stray too far from the sound of the album (like I Found It In You does).

So sad this wasn't a bigger hit and it got robbed off a Grammy. Will forever be one of my fav songs and I am happy it lasted way beyond 20 weeks. My other 2 favs are "The Bees" and "Either Way". I'll be supporting whatever choice the new single will be.

Two more weeks on 'CT40' and that will be it.
As arguably the most respected artist to hit country radio during the past fifteen years, it is indeed wonderful to have her back on the radio, but this should have been a much bigger hit.

I truly think Lee Ann Womack is either number one or two as far as female vocalist is concerned in the last 15 years...she has an amazing ability to bring a lyric to life and "Last Call" should've hit the top ten (at least!) the fact that it hung out the top 20 for so many weeks tells you that people were requesting it, I always get the feeling that radio djs. keep great songs from reaching the upper levels of the charts and this amazing song LAST CALL was a victim of it.

I have a feeling the blame goes largely to program directors and also the big ownership groups who enforce rigid playlists across their many stations. But no doubt DJ's can come in for some of the blame as well.
Lee Ann's weird little side trip into pop music didn't help her, although I would argue that she shouldn't have to apologize for that. Decisions should be based on her music.
Whoever is doing it, I'd agree that Lee Ann hasn't had as much success as she should have. If you're going back 15 years I would say Patty Loveless and Pam Tillis (and Alison Krauss, but Alison is way outside the mainstream) outrank her on my personal list, but Lee Ann is certainly one of the best. Patty and Pam don't get any airplay at all nowadays, except the occasional spin of one of Patty's old #1 hits. Pam might as well never have had a career for all the attention she gets these days -- but she's still out there making brilliant albums.

Actually, I totally disagree and think that she SHOULD apologize for her forray into country music as that is one of the biggest reasons I have disliked her for quite some time.
You can't expect radio to accept you with open arms after you sang on a song like "Murder on Music Row" and then crosssover with IHYD and expect everyone to take you seriously.
Quite hypocritical if you ask me and the reason I don't care if I hear her voice again.

And actually, she did begin as country, and didn't really go pop until IHYD.

Not to get off track but I definitely agree about Patty and Pam. I recently listened to "All The Good Ones Are Gone" and remembered how great Pam is. LeeAnn is fantastic though.
