Hmmmm...need to hear the whole song. Lee Ann sounds great and I think I like the vocal melody but I'm not sure about the production/arrangement and I can't properly evaluate the intended emotional dynamic of the song from the clip.
Thanks for the heads up, rowdawg21.

Lee Ann Womack serves "Last Call" Friday, June 6, 2008 – Lee Ann Womack is back with a new song for the first time in three years. "Last Call" was released today from an album likely to be out later this year. Womack has not been heard from since "He Oughta Know That By Now" in 2005 from her very well received traditional country disc, "There's More Where That Came From."

Great to hear new Lee Ann. I like it well enough. I prefer the verses to the chorus. And lyrically, I'm not sure I really get it. But still, great to hear new Lee Ann.

This is a nice surprise! I'll need to find a format that works for me, because I can't get Allaboutcountry songs to play on my computer. But I'm looking forward to new Lee Ann music.

Hmm... I must have imagined the releases of "Twenty Years..." and "Finding My Way Back Home"... Heh. But oy. I think I still have a headache from "Finding My Way Back Home." Happily, I like this new one much better. There are parts of the song that seem a bit lyrically clunky or just a bit lazy (the first verse especially), but for the most part, I think this is a well-written song. Especially cool are the dual use of "last call" and the evolution of the "song" line in the chorus. It's a very pretty melody (I'm with sbp17 in preferring the sound of the verses). The production is an interesting straddling of a more spare, traditional sound (on the verses, matched by Lee Ann's singing) and a poppier contemporary country feel (in the choruses, again matched by Lee Ann's singing). Overall, I think this is very well done. Here are the lyrics: I recognized your number, It's burned into my brain, Felt my heart beating faster, Every time it rang. Some things never change, That's why I didn't answer.
I bet you're in a bar, Listening to a country song. Glass of Johnny Walker Red, With no one to take you home. They're probably closing down, Saying, "No more alcohol." I bet you're in a bar 'Cause I'm always your last call.
I don't need to check that message. I know what it says. "Baby, I still love you," Don't mean nothing when there's whiskey on your breath. That's the only love I get. So if you're calling...
I bet you're in a bar Listening to a cheatin' song Glass of Johnny Walker Red With no one to take you home They're probably closing down Saying, "No more alcohol" I bet you're in bar, 'Cause I'm always your last-
Call me crazy but I think maybe We've had our last call.
I bet you're in a bar. It's always the same old song. That Johnny Walker Red, By now it's almost gone. But baby, I won't be there To catch you when you fall. I bet you're in bar 'Cause I'm always your last call.I hope this makes the top-10, but have a feeling it will have to struggle to even make the top-20. Would love to be wrong and for "Last Call" to outperform my initial expectation. Other songs that Lee Ann Womack has recorded for her album (no idea whether they will make the cut): "Heart Letting Go" (Al Anderson, Chris Stapleton) & "I Won't Love You Either Way" (Kendall Marvel, Timothy James, Chris Stapleton)

Great to hear new Lee Ann. I like it well enough. I prefer the verses to the chorus. And lyrically, I'm not sure I really get it. But still, great to hear new Lee Ann. I'm the opposite . After a few more listens I prefer the chorus over the verses. With the exception of that last minor on the choruses. It kinda sticks out to me a tad , almost like they were trying a little TOO hard to make it contemporary. To me that chord just screams "oh wait this sounds to country....throw a minor in there". Still a great tune though. Man , I know Im probabilly asking too much, but I REALLY hope this can crack the top 10.

Great to hear new stuff from Lee Ann. The first time I listened to the song I did not really get it either, but then I listened to it while looking at the lyrics that dudley posted and it made sense to me.
Zazie, I think you are really gonna like this once you get to listen to it.

I'm ecstatic to hear that Lee Ann is back with new music. I wasn't expecting it, real big surprise. I had no idea she was in the studio recording music. Hopefully she'll finally have a top 10 hit..... although I'm not that optimistic about it.

I think this is the best song to hit country radio from a female all year. Needless to say, I'm really liking this. I'm so glad that Lee Ann has come back from the dark side and starting recording actual country music again. I agree that this is probably doomed to peak in the teens, but as long as it does well enough to get a new album out from her, I'm ok with that.

Some of the lyrics are pretty cliche, but I am really liking this, especially after reading the lyrics. I'm so glad she's back!

I LOVE Lee Ann Womack and felt very disappointed by the lackluster response to "Finding My Way Back Home" good to have her back, she is the best country female singer when it comes to throwback country !!!!

WOO HOO!
I'm glad Lee Ann is back! I also hope the song goes T10 but the timing has to be just right, because with Carrie, Taylor and Brad hot oon the charts in the last three years, Lee Ann has to make a very good radio airplay appearance. This song either may start out slow on the chart and do a Sugarland Baby Girl, or shoot up fast and hopefully not flame out like Keith Urban's I Told You So.

I really like her voice. I think it's a good song. The production sounds kind of "New Agey" to me outside of the chorus. The chorus having a more country feel.
Didn't Lee Ann have a new album in the works for sometime that almost got released a year or two ago then got pulled? Maybe I'm confusing her with someone else.

I agree with the consensus that it's just great to have Lee Ann finally put something else out, but the fact that the song is great is just gravy.
Selfishly, I hope this one does well for her because I want even more new material after a 3 year void.

I was surprised to hear this on local radio this morning. I like the lyrics, and the arrangement is appealing too. Her voice seems a little thin compared to its old robust quality on songs like Little Past Little Rock and I'll Think of a Reason Later. But it's still Lee Ann and I know I'll look forward to it on the radio a lot. Be a hit, now! She needs one. (I'm assigning it a #14 peak right now.)

Wow, I like this a lot. It reminds me of something that Patty Loveless would've cut in the mid 90s. Good stuff. I agree with dudley that the dual use of 'last call' is clever. Hopefully Lee Ann can still get radio to at least give her a shot.

This is so refreshing to hear. I love this song a lot. It sounds like real country, imagine that on today's radio! I miss Lee Ann. I hope we get a new CD soon.
