I must agree with bigbluenote; MG have done quite well over the past couple years.
Back When I Knew It All - 1 If You Ever Stop Loving Me - 1 Lucky Man - 1 Something To Be Proud Of - 1 She Couldn't Change Me - 2 Gone - 3 What Do Ya Think About That - 3 Hell Yeah - 4 Lonely and Gone - 5 My Town - 5 She Don't Tell Me To - 5 Speed - 5 Some People Change - 7
Over a Dozen Top 10 hits is quite impressive, and 'Roll With Me' is likely headed into the Top 10 I am guessing. Too bad their album sales are not reflecting their radio success.

I think they should make a video. Normally I'd say videos don't help album sales but that's from more of a rock standpoint (I do most of my posting in the rock section but I am a huge country fan as well, especially MG), country artists have two popular channels where music videos air quite regularly. All other music genres don't have that luxury since mtv and vh1 simply play reality shows 24/7. Seriously though, with some cmt and gac airplay they could really make more of an impact. Look at Sugarland, haven't they made a video for every one of their singles? And MG is easily better, unfortunately they're not as popular, but they are probably the most under appreciated group in country.

I agree with the top 5 assessment. I think it has a chance to hit #1 though. And if it does, I think they'll start seeing more consistent success. I'm REALLY excited at how their past few singles have done. I just looked at wikipedia at how well each of their singles have done and I'm shocked. I know wikipedia isn't always 100% correct, but it's close enough for me. Their past SEVEN singles have hit top 10. I had NO idea. But still, for some reason, they're just not that big yet. I'm hoping with a few more successes and some hype, they'll hit that next level in their career. I definately too am confused about why they aren't superstars. They sure deserve to be. ???

I think Montgomery Gentry definitely have Gary Allan syndrome. Reaching #1 in 20 weeks with BWIKIA is definitely a good sign of things to come, though. Maybe this'll start taking off in the next few weeks.
Is it just me, or has Columbia been the weakest of the major labels for a *long* time? They seem to have a very hard time breaking acts, and the few that do almost never make #1. Mary Chapin Carpenter, Dixie Chicks, Wade Hayes, and Ricochet are the only few that I can think of from the past 15 years. Note that of these, MCC, Wade, and Ricochet only had one #1 each, and in Wade's case, it happened to be his debut single. The Dixie Chicks' #1 (Travelin' Soldier) was also their only #1 for the label.
Epic was really weak for most of the late 1990s as well. They could usually get Joe Diffie, Collin Raye, and Patty Loveless to Top 15ish (and before 1995, Doug Stone as well), but almost never to #1. And then, when it looked like Epic had no intention of ever getting to even #40 again, Gretchen broke through with Redneck Woman, then Epic apparently killed their Nashville division.

25 24 MONTGOMERY GENTRY Roll With Me 1490 1180 310 9.625
This the fourth highest increase of any song in the top 50 right now. I'll bet the video had something to do that. I can see this being as successful as Lucky Man if given the chance.

its not just by spins....its a formula of spins and audience....a song can be higher in spins and audience but still be lower than another song.

I've never seen that anywhere else except on the country chart. The same with Keith Urban and Anderson. "Shirt" is higher even though "Miss you" has more spins.

I think all the Mediabase charts are that way.

Radio really seems to love these guys now, and I couldn't be happier. If this hits number one (which it really looks like it could) it could really shake things up for them. I mean, think of the company they'll be in if they get that fifth number one. How many artists can say they've had 7 straight top tens? Most of the artists that come to mind are the superstars of the genre. And I believe (npi) Brooks and Dunn is the only other duo to accomplish that same feat.

I am still BAFFLED by their poor record sells though. ??? What is up with that!? I think Columbia seems to have some sort of curse on it. Almost nobody on that label ever hits #1, and if they do, they're usually cursed afterward. For instance, Mary Chapin Carpenter only had one #1 and her chart momentum totally went splat within a couple years. Ricochet had their big #1 and was only able to crack Top 10 once afterward. At least they got the hat trick by starting their career off with three Top 10s. Even more recently, Trent Willmon was unable to break past #27, Miranda has fought like hell just to get her first Top 10 (granted, she was transferred from Epic, but still), Cole Deggs & the Lonesome got booted after a #25 and a #47 (maybe because their name sounds like "Cold Eggs"?), Shelly Fairchild doesn't lie anywhere near the charts anymore*, Brice Long is still anywhere but here**, and Ashley Monroe's chart performance isn't exactly something she can be "Satisfied" with***. But MG seem to have broken that streak of bad luck for their label. As for this song, I have only a couple minor issues: First off, you can hardly hear Eddie for most of the song because they threw Five for Fighting in there, but I really like Troy's voice on this, as it's less strident than he tends to be. Second of all, the song doesn't really specify who "you" is in "it'd sure be nice if you would roll with me". Is "you" the listener in this context? *"Kiss Me" should've charted. **"It's Only Monday" should've charted. ***"I Don't Want To" should've charted higher.

Top 10
12 10 MONTGOMERY GENTRY Roll With Me 2823 2607 216 19.331
It has more spins than the song in 9th (Sugarland - "Already Gone"), but less than the song in 11th (Zac Brown Band - "Chicken Fried"). These charts are so odd.

These charts are so odd. Mediabase uses some oddball system that isn't exactly based on spins or audience. Nobody's been able to figure it out. I think it's something where they take the audience, multiply it by π r squared, divide by Numberwang minus 79, then convert it to Celsius.

Yeah, I agree that Eddie's vocals aren't prominent enough on this song.

It should be.... 8 LUKE BRYAN Country Man 3068 9 ZAC BROWN... Chicken Fried 2962 10 MONTGOMERY... Roll With Me 2918 11 SUGARLAND Already Gone 2835 It would be like that if the chart was ordered by spins, but it's not.

Anyone know what the significance of the line
'Now I'm thinkin' it's time, to be livin' the rhyme, when I'm singin' a song about nothin' but right?'
is? Is it supposed to be clever because 'rhyme' and 'right' don't rhyme? I don't get it.

I think that line means "I'm singing about living a right life, why not actually change my life and follow what I'm singing about?".
