I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and am trying to update the first post with chart information. I know it didn't jump from 52 to 40 so does anyone know what position it had between there?

BLAKE SHELTON IS “HOT” on "STARTIN' FIRES" Release Date November 18 40 Days and Counting NASHVILLE (Oct. 8, 2008) – Multi-platinum artist Blake Shelton will release his fifth album, STARTIN’ FIRES on Warner Bros. Records November 18, 2008. The first single from STARTIN’ FIRES, “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” finds Shelton exploring its rich melody and pouring himself into the vocal challenge. “This is one of the coolest songs I’ve ever cut as far as being unique and from a fresh place,” says Shelton. “I love to sing songs about regret – always have – and mistakes you make along the way. It’s extremely emotional and has a little different slant on things the guy could have done right along the way.” STARTIN’ FIRES is produced by Scott Hendricks. New producer, huh? I wonder if he had some sort of falling out with Bobby Braddock, who only produced a couple tracks on Pure BS (the rest were split between Paul Worley and Brent Rowan).

No Bobby had told Blake when they were done recording Pure BS that it would be the last CD he would produce because he wanted to write a book and spend time with his grandchild.
The CD was completed at the end of 2006 but WB stepped in and brought in Paul Worley and Brent Rowan and only kept a few of the Bobby produced songs.
Blake fought for the Bobby CD but WB wouldn't listen.

It doesn't look so good for this album when it's not even mentioned on HDD's prediction page.

I picked this album up earlier this week, but I didn't get a chance to listen to it all the way through until today. I have to say that I'm really enjoying this album. It has a different feel to it than Blake's previous albums. The production was actually quite good (a rarity these days), as it was fairly simple, yet diverse, and most importantly it didn't distract from Blake's fine vocals. The album was a cross between the modern contemporary style that worked so well of Pure BS, and a throwback style that I would describe as 80's transitional country (not sure if that's the best description, but that's what popped into my head). The traditional elements were actually traditional, not 90's neo-traditional (most evident on "Never Lovin' You"). The only really forgettable songs are the mandatory "country boy" songs, Home Sweet Home and Country Strong, and at least the latter is a tad more original than the norm. Green is a good song, although I'm not sure that the hook works. All in all I think this is Blake's finest effort yet, and although there may not be a standout smash #1, there at least a half dozen songs on the album that I think could easily be T5/T10 hits.
My faves: Here I Am, I Don't Care, 100 Miles

www.cjfw.ca/news/music/80/829567 Blake Shelton Releases Startin' Fires By: Jennifer Anderson This story is gone now but here are some quotes from it that explains how Blake & Scott approached Startin' Fires. Quote: Blake Shelton releases his fifth album, Startin'Fires, on Tuesday (November 18th). The disc has an autobiographical feel to it, and Shelton says it's a much happier album than his previous CD, Pure B.S., which was strongly influenced by the divorce Shelton was going through while recording it: "I'm absolutely in a way better place than I was when we made the Pure B.S. album. And I was really wanting to go in and start recording music that made me happy. And so we were able to start from a good place of making this record, because I had already cut "Home" and I had my life back on the road again." Shelton, who has worked with producer Bobby Braddock for years, is also very pleased with the addition of producer Scott Hendricks to his team: "From day one, when I went into the studio, I got to go in there with Scott Hendricks. And we went in and made a record like two Oklahoma guys would. We found songs that we loved that were about things I could relate to. We would make music for thirty minutes and go drink beer for a couple of hours. That's how we made this whole record. That's why when you listen to it, it sounds like we're having fun and doing something that we want to do. And I really was this time around."

So I've finally heard this album all the way through.
It rivals "Pure BS". I thoroughly enjoyed "Pure BS", so I thought it would be hard for Blake to top that. Well, he's come REAL close.
"Good At Startin Fires", "100 Miles", "She Wouldn't Be Gone", "Bear Skin Rug", and of course the breathtaking "I Don't Care" are extreme highlights off this excellent album.
I'm glad that "She Wouldn't Be Gone" is doing well on country radio. I'm just not sure it'll survive the Christmas chart crumble. I hope it survives and at least makes top 5. If it does, he'll be on a little roll. BS really deserves to be a MUCH bigger star than he is. I hope this is the album that does it for him.

Ok, how was it that I didn't remember that? I loved Pure BS, but I don't remember I Don't Care from it at all. I pulled the cd out and sure enough, there it was, but for some reason i don't remember it being there. Maybe it just fit in better on this album or something, but I'm glad they put it on Startin' Fires. I assume that it means that it will be a single, although probably not the 2nd single since it's a carryover.

I wouldn't worry about the Christmas season disrupting this wonderful song's march up the charts, and hopefully to #1.
Keep in mind that it was four years ago this week that 'Some Beach' replaced 'Back When' @ #1 @ R&R, and went on to spend five weeks in the penthouse.
And this song is a heck of a lot better than 'Some Beach' is, IMHO.

And this song is a heck of a lot better than 'Some Beach' is, IMHO. I have to completely disagree with you there. I loved "Some Beach" and thought it was a very clever song. This song is all right but certainly not on par with some of his other material, at least to me. I definitely don't see this going #1 (and think it will be really lucky to hit Top 5). I think it will hit the Top 10 and stall for a little bit and then fall off the charts. Maybe it will get lucky and hit Top 5 for a single week, but I don't see it happening.

I just got sick of 'Some Beach' much quicker than I did of other songs such as 'Austn'.
What do you folks think of this CD?

Oh no, another album question from Marv and I'm about to fall for it. lol!
I usually don't give my opinion on an album unless I think it's good enough to write about and praise. In this case, this album is worth writing about.
I think this album is excellent from beginning to end (literally, with his duet with Miranda closing the album).
The first song "Green" is a solid song. Very country, great vocals, good lyrics. It's a good start to the album and I liked it at first. Then I heard the rest of the album and didn't care for this one too much, lol. It's a good song, but it's weaker than the remaining songs. I love "Good At Startin Fires". It has such a smooth groove to it, I love the instrumentation...and how he sings it. We've all heard "She Wouldn't Be Gone". I still think it's one of the stronger tracks on the album. I think he sings it so well and with so much conviction. "I'll Just Hold On" is another excellent song. It's different sounding and I love the way he sings it. "100 Miles" is a gorgeous ballad, again with powerful vocals. I like the lyrics a lot, about realizing that he screwed up. You know, to tell you the truth, I'm not too sure exactly what this song is about. The melody and his voice get me every time that I really don't pay too much attention to the lyrics, except the chorus. Hmmm... "Never Loving You" is a well written song about not ever being able to see himself not loving her no matter what he does. It's a good basic country song, nothing exciting. "This Is Gonna Take All Night" is a romantic song, let's leave it at that. Good song though, very country sounding. "I Don't Care" the scintillating song from his previous album. I hope this is his next single. It's one of the best songs he's recorded. I love the lyrics, the melody, the instrumenation, his voice, the way he sings it. It really is a great story. He sees his ex with another guy and tells himself that he don't care. Well, he realizes throughout the song that he does care, he does love her, he has to have her, etc. I love it. "Bear Skin Run" is a great duet with Miranda. Love the sound of the fire crackin in the background and the crickets. I love the stripped down performance. Both of them sound so good together.
There are a couple songs I left out here. They're good enough, but I just tried to explain why I picked the others as the highlights of the album. I have listened to this album, almost all the way through, many many times since the day it came out. I have been anticipating to listen to this album since "Pure BS" was rereleased....no, since it was released, lol. And he didn't let me down.
EDIT: I can't believe I left off my opinion of "Bear Skin Rug". I was too excited about "I Don't Care" and wanted to leave it there, lol.
