Well, for some this could have been a good year, for some it's really bad, and for others, it has been just okay.

I think this year has been decent. 2005 and 2006 were the last two excellent ones, IMO.

The original is 'Can't Touch It' and it was her biggest hit here in Australia.

we def have the complete opposite taste in music.....the only song u listed i like at all is "cry for you" and i do not consider that to be a 2008 song since it came out in 2006-even if it is popular now

i have enjoyed stuff this year, im just saying(and others have agreed) that there aren't tons and tons of new songs. that was my point about it all. it wasn't attacking anyone's taste-it was about a lack of new releases. i never insulted anyone; i never made any specific statements about anything. i just feel like everything is at a stand still. no malicious intent here... :)

p.s.s i added a ? to the title....does that make it more "open" or something? :)

Of course it hasn't. I don't mind having smart, thought provoking discussions about dance music, but c'mon. Does the thread's title have to be so negative? Also, if you are going to start a discussion, how about if you actually say something to support your claims instead of just saying "WTF is going on?".

This year hasn't been the worst. At all. And we are just a little of the first half. However, if you only listen to Tony Moran, Offer Nissim, Junior Vasquez, Peter Rauhofer and -insert amateur remixer's name here- then of course it's going to look like the worst year.

There's a lot of interesting dance music out this year... released outside the United States. Investigate!

Just recently we've gotten brilliant pop remixes of Angel by Natasha B. and the PCD When I Grow Up package was stellar.

On the dance-artist front you've got Sam Sparro, Lady Gaga and Ida Corr releasing prime stuff as well. Agreed with the previous poster who mentioned Infernal, and other great dance acts

Music evolves, and luckily in the internet age there's good music out there for everyone's tastes. The beauty of having the ability to find music that pleases us is that we don't have to generalize and claim that music in general sucks. Instead, we *should* be specific as to what it is we don't like about a specific style or movement within the dance community, because "dance music" itself is too broad a scope to proverbially suck.

i'm referring to the days when like thunderpuss and hex were remixing multiple songs every month and then tony and peter and ralphi/rosabel were also doing the same. orange factory, widelife and others fell off the map. offer nissim is barely releasing anything right now as well. seems like everything peaked in 2003 and now it's like worse and worse every year.

can anyone honestly say this year has some huge undeniable anthem? i mean something along the lines of "dont stop the music" or "dontcha" etc. i know the year isn't over, but there really isn't much on the horizon and summer SHOULD be the peak time for releases, no? really sad since this is a year that so many divas have new albums out(or albums from last year that are still dropping singles.)

p.s. and in response to your p.s. i guess i am just way more selective than you(for better or for worse.) ??? i only have 500 songs on my ipod and it holds like 7,000!

let's look at the newly updated top ten list on perfectbeat: at least have circuit mixes on them. the same can be said for the current masterbeat top ten.

there's demand, just not supply for some reason.

with sales for gay disney up 10% from last year and 20 % up from the year before, I'd hardly say it was dying. I was waiting for someone to say something to that effect though lol. that's the same(and only) argument people make over and over despite evidence to the contrary; broken record much? i don't know why some people seem to hate the circuit so much? God forbid people go out and have fun and dance! i have a sneaking suspicion most of the anti-circuit posters have never even been to a party! i promise they are far from dead and we don't have to have tons of brand new music to have a good time; unlike most dancefloors, we love to hear classics

if music "changes" then why did freemasons just rip off the 1979 song "this time baby" by jackie moore and pass it off as "love on my mind?" i guess music just recycles itself every 25 years or so? how is that change? and "watchin" just used deborah cox's "it's over now..." i fail to see how groundbreaking or innovative they are? Thunderpuss is untouchable-like the Beatles of dance music. No one had the success TP has had in the history of dance music in terms of the # of hits they had and how prolific they were and how much money they made! If you are gonna say who TP is now, at least have the respect to say Chris Cox is the "TP of 2008" since he is still djing and remixing(his recent mix of "looking 4 men" is VERY TP sounding!) Tp may have broken up in 2003, but I have heard their mixes out the past two weekends-one wknd in New Orleans and another wknd in Dallas. I'm not gonna even discuss the other comparisons, but why is junior still junior though? what has he done lately that's so relevant? HEx is still around BTW...guess u never heard his BB #1 mix of taylor dayne "beautiful" a few months ago or his mix of beyonce "get me bodied" :'( I HIGHLY suggest both! quasi even used the hex dub of beyonce for his great "disturbia" mashup ;)

p.s i double dog dare anyone to go onto peter rauhofer's website messageboard and inform them that the role of peter rauhofer will now be played by dave aude! There'd be riots in the streets the likes of which have been unseen since Stonewall!!!!!

For most if not all of these remixers/DJs, many of them cannot be truly replaced even if a rising newcomer has similar sounds and style. Of course the newcomers will probably be influenced by the veterans of the scene, in varying degrees. But there probably won't be anyone like Larry Levan (R.I.P.), David Morales, Shep Pettibone, Junior Vasquez, Thunderpuss, Tony Moran, Hex Hector, etc. ever again.

Trust me I love Thunderpuss and I agree that they can not be replaced, they were huge but mainly in the gay clubs. Freemasons is actually more succesful then Thunderpuss because their single actually chart and are mainstream hts in many countries.

I know none of thouse Dj's can be replaced and I was not serious in replaceing them. It was just a silly example which I didn't think you would take so seriously.

On the 'change' of music ... yes almost everything recycles itself, when I was like 5 I thought covers were new songs, I thought eveybody was so innovative then I started growing and reazing that everything comes back around again and angain, it just reinvents itself. Yes of coursethere are new sounds too. So if souebody asked me now what the current mainstream dance sound is I would give them the names of the 'replacement' dj. To sum up the sound I would definetly say that it's electro-disco house with a lot of early 90's influence.

I also think that many gays in the US are stuck in the Thunderpuss land. I used to be one of them so I know the feeling. 10 years ago I probably woudn't go near a house track and now they've taken over my setlists.

As for Hex, I thought his Beyonce mix was ok, but that song is shit to begin with IMO so Didn't care for it. I thought his taylor mix was awful, I thought somebody slipped some g into my drink when I heard it.

Oh and Junior is a legend forever and always ok, learn it !

This is a joke. Hex Hector, Rosabel, Peter, and Tony are still on top of their game! Phenomenal productions, great sales, amazing beats....to say they are anywhere near gone is pure ignorance. And who you're comparing them to makes me die from laughter. Tony Moran is now Cahill? WTF? I just heard who Cahill was when he did his mix of Forever. Wideboys? No thanks. There are too many house DJs like them that have their EXACT same sound. Seamus Haji is great but i definitely DON'T think you can compare him to Hex Hector. And last but not least, Dave Aude comes nowhere close to Peter Rauhofer. While I agree that Peter requires an acquired taste and some of his mixes seem odd at times, but when Peter turns it, he TURNS IT.

Point blank, pretty much all these DJs you listed are still fierce and still catch the attention of music aficionados everywhere.

this thread is neither useless nor insane. i think it's refreshing to have people actually debate something instead of just talk about one song and its remixes....everyone is free to ignore whatever threads they don't care for. i certainly skip many. i would never dream of saying a thread should be locked unless there were duplicates...it's called the 1st amendment(although i realize the world wide web is not necessarily subject to the laws of the U.S. constitution, I still think freedom of speech is a great global idea!)

mikey visits this board often-i'm sure he read this entire thread. i know for a fact he and i have discussed this particular one via email, so trust me-he is informed. i think he made a very valid point! good job, mikey!

btw i heard hex's mix of "get me bodied" out tonight and everyone was loving it. it was actually set to the video and had some of the talking parts as well. it's the first song I danced to tonight and i think def the best beyonce mix since "one night only!" his mix of "absolutely not" was also played and i heard "nobody's supposed to be here" the two previous weekends-once in dallas and once in new orleans! hex is irreplaceable!!!!!!!!!!

Dj's such as Ralphi, Peter, Tony are very limited these days. Back in 1999 I was blasting all their mixes but now c'mon ...

Ralphi: Every mix he does now sounds like Don't Cha ... whare are his house mixes, where is the classic Ralphi ? You Used To Hold Me anyone ? The man has so much talent but lateley he's only doing circut mixes. There was a time when a Ralphi mix was a suprise, you never knew if it was gonna be house or tribal. Now I can tell you what it's gonna sound like before I hear it. His "electro" mix for Feedback was a joke, there was nothing electro about it.

Peter Rauhofer: I have faith that this man will return to the top one day. For years Peter has been ahead of the game, his future mixes are a perfect example. Today his mixes sound like an old dub with an acapella thrown on top. He created three mixes for 4 Minuts and all sounded the same. Some of us had hope that his London mix was gonna be Peter making his first attempt at Funky House but nooooooo we were served with more tribal beats and little trance thown over it.

Tony Moran still turns out good productions and at least knows that there is more then circuit house out there. His Zoo remix of Keep Your Body working is a good example. I really wish he would bring back his back up singers that he used in the 90's mixes he did. His recent circuit mixes are ok just not something I would play at the moment.

basically what you said before was that all the huge american remixers have now been replaced with UK mixers! I'm sure I'll get some "xenophobia" accusation from the usual suspects, but I mean that's exactly what you said! ironically, you said peter was replaced by dave aude-so the only european remixer is replaced by an american!I think this board has shown time and time again that the UK and the US have very different tastes in dance music so I just cant imagine that either would ever win, much less the UK djs just totally kill the US Dance scene? I really never intended this thread to turn into a "continental divide!" I don't know what clubs you are going to, but I never heard ANY of the remixers you mentioned except possibly that seamus haji mix of "touch my body" and that's just by default bc it didnt exactly receive a stellar remix package(hello, the david morales mix was not even released!) I don't know where you live or if you go to straight or gay clubs, but I just never heard the remixers you are mentioning at the gay clubs I go to and I, on a regular basis, go to clubs in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Dallas and Houston(which even cater to a mixed crowd on some nights and are not "circuit clubs" either; of course i only hear the circuit djs at circuit parties!) It's possible they ARE being played somewhere, but the fact that they are not ubiquitous only proves that those "so and so is now so and so's" are categorically untrue! You've said you were just kidding about that though-I'll take you at your word! Are other people hearing cahill, freemasons, seamus haji, junior vasquez and wideboys out at the clubs and NOT hearing tony, peter, hex, rosabel, ralphi etc?

tony and ralphi were just getting warmed up in 1999-they weren't huge til this century...

p.s. that tony zoo mix of martha wash stuck out like a sore thumb on the event and i think that's why he did the "work that diva out" mix and put it on the event 2008.
