How long before Sony puts a new GH out in order to capitalize on this?
Vultures, to be sure.

they arrived at his house- he was already not breathing- I wonder when the conspiracy theories start trickling in- The Nation of Islam killed him- Madonna killed him- the government killed him- I've never not seen someone die like this and a big conspiracy theory didn't come out of it.
MJ has been working on a new album- look for the family to push it out quick, I'm sure it's pretty good and they'll put it out for the money- i'm sure he had huge debt.

I don't think people will make conspiracies. He had been a mess for years and rumors of bad health were running rampant for months before his death. The loonier MJ fans may go nuts over this, but I don't think most people will question the circumstances of his death after getting over the initial shock.

Get ready for a Michael invansion on Billboard next week. Yep, Top Catalog Albums and Hot Digital Songs in particular.

I"m in shock, and I'm really disapppointed in Philly radio. The only station playing his songs is Power 99. This is the King of Pop. Stop the presses and play Thriller top to bottom or something. Really.

Sad and unexpected, but not shocking. The man was clearly not in the best health. Despite all the controversy that surrounded him, his legacy still stands and his achievements are unmatched. I always thought I could never imagine Michael Jackson as an old man. I also think he should have just let everything be. I think the O2 concerts would have really put him in over his head, and as much as I love his classic material, I could have done without a new album. I really hope they don't try to capitalize on the bits and pieces of the new album he was working on. Let his past achievements speak for themselves.

Oh, and on my way home tonight, Michael was playing on EVERY single station on my presets. Absolutely incredible and a true testament to his legacy.

All we now need is for Madonna and the rest of the surviving Beatles to die and all the boundary breakers in music will all be gone. Oh damn come on! It's bad enough that MJ is gone. Don't make light of it...I mean...I never would have thought I'd be sad about someone I don't know, but I really am. I mean, the King of Pop. It's like Elvis dying almost, not that I"m old enough to remember that.

What a terrible day. We lost Farrah and Michael.
I was listening to Michael on the way home from work on my ipod, this is so surreal.
R.I.P.

This may be blunt but I actually think him dying is actually a good thing. That guy took shit everyday at least now he will have peace of mind. He was unique , different and people "media" all of a sudden like him but last 15 odd yes have been slowly killing him.
I blame them for this quite frankly.

The fact that Thriller is outselling all of his GH albums immediately after his death, including the popular Number Ones and the more recent and very comprehensive 2-Disc Essential Michael Jackson, proves how famous that album is. That really is the biggest that any one artist has ever been at one point in time/during one of their "album eras."

Thriller is #1 and #8 on iTunes. The Essential Michael Jackson is #3. On Amazon's list of top sellers for music, he's got the top 13 spots, as of now.

The DJ on Q 104 here in Cleveland is about to premiere a new "Michael Jackson Tribute Mix" that some DJ in Houston just sent him. He says it is in fact brand new.
Watch it take off on radio, lol.

That really is the biggest that any one artist has ever been at one point in time/during one of their "album eras." There's no getting around that. Outside of maybe the Beatles when they first arrived in the United States, that was the single biggest era for any artist ... ever. There are always big albums, "Tapestry," "Synchronicity," "Rumors," "Jagged Little Pill." But only one Thriller.

The RIAA certified it 20x platinum on 10/30/84. 20 million copies in 23 months, just under 2 years.

Commenting on his passing, Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President, Sony Corporation, said: "Michael Jackson was a brilliant troubadour for his generation, a genius whose music reflected the passion and creativity of an era. His artistry and magnetism changed the music landscape forever. We have been profoundly affected by his originality, creativity and amazing body of work. Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, said: "Michael Jackson's unsurpassed artistry and beloved music brought joy to every corner of the world. We join today with his millions of fans in expressing our profound sadness and we offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. It was a true privilege for all of us in the Sony Music family to work with one of the most talented superstars in the history of music. We will miss him greatly." Martin Bandier, Chairman & CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, said: "Michael was the kind of amazing talent that comes along once in a lifetime. Five of Jackson's solo albums – "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label – are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jackson's sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.
