The first single from her next album, due in early 2009. She announced the song as her single a few nights ago in concert, and on her blog. Here's a live video of the song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP83FUE4eusMartina describes it as "uptempo, has tons of energy, and I love the lyric which is basically about the fact that life is unpredictable with it's ups and downs, but you have to just hang on and choose to be positive and enjoy the ride no matter how crazy it gets!"

So this means that once again we'll have McBride & the "Ride" on the charts.
Oh come on, you knew SOMEone was going to say it.

We can be what we want to do if we just be ourselves and don't give up on our dreams. I miss Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road type songs from her. (No this isnot an attempt to get into the New York Times again lol)

But she's blessed and it's God's will that she sings these songs for these times. Anyway, this one's for the girls so just enjoy the ride knowing love's the only house big enough for all your Martina frustrations.

She's in a big, big rut topic-wise, which is especially bad for someone who generally doesn't write her own material. Martina has just dug herself deeper and deeper into a hole. Even when she strays from that formula it doesn't usually work. But she's blessed and it's God's will that she sings these songs for these times. Anyway, this one's for the girls so just enjoy the ride knowing love's the only house big enough for all your Martina frustrations. You win.

Thanks to ShaniaGotchaGood! and sbp17 for the links. In the YouTube clip that sbp17 posted, Martina says, I think, that her album is due in March and that this song will go to radio in a few weeks. That makes me think she might debut it at the CMAs and send it to radio immediately after the show. So this is Martina on an 80s arena rock kick -- the guitar riffs remind me of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." I guess this shouldn't be a surprise considering Martina's affinity for Pat Benatar's music, but it still wasn't what I was expecting. It won't make people who feel Martina McBride has developed a bad habit of oversinging change their minds. From what I can make out of the lyrics (see below), I'm not impressed. It's not that I don't like happy, inspirational songs. It's just that I prefer that they, along with songs of any mood, be grounded in more detailed snapshots, instead of broad strokes and overused images that make them sound glib. There is nothing about this song that makes me think Martina is the one artist out there who should be singing this song and delivering this message. Will Martina sound great on the studio version? Of course she will -- she has an incredible voice and is one of the finest country music singers ever. But does this song represent her at anywhere near her most distinctive? Does it draw out of her a great interpretive performance? I would answer both of those questions with a "no" based on these live clips. And while I believe she believes in the message of this song and sings it with joy, I don't think the lyrics credibly convey Martina's life experience -- I believe Martina's joy is deeper and wiser than these lyrics. On the bright side, the verse has a decent hook, as does the chorus. And I don't think I'll detest this the way I did "Anyway," which I found didactic, whereas this one seems more engaging. I've tried to piece together the lyrics from the two YouTube caps...I didn't get nearly all of them, but I got enough to make it worth posting, I guess. If for no other reason than people can giggle at how wrong I was when the real lyrics come out. So here goes: Yeah, yeah, yeah!
You wake up from your dream and You don't want to face the day. And you can't find the reason To think your world will ever change. You can hide beneath the covers Or you can ???? (crawl?) outside, head up high And carry on...[chorus] Life is a roller coaster ride How does the ??? ... [really can't make out what she says here but it ends with a word that contains the long "i" sound] ???...you can close your eyes And touch the sky! Shine while you have the chance to shine Laugh even when you want to cry, Hold on tight to what you feel inside. And riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide.
... And then shoots you like a rocket toward the ground, It twists you and it shakes you Before it turns you upside down. You can't see what's around the corner You can't look back so just live it up, And feel the rush!
[chorus]
Ride, ride, ride, yeah
Oh yeah
Shine while you have a chance to shine Laugh even when you want to cry, How on tight to what you feel inside and riiiiiiiiiiiide.
Ride, ride, ride
Yeah!

I think the only regret I have about seeing Martina come out with new music now, is that we'll probably never see the excellent AJ/Martina duet Never Loved Before, from AJ's Good Time album, released as a single. I thought there might be a chance, with Martina out of the spotlight for awhile, that we'd have that one come out as AJ's 4th single from the album in time for next spring. No chance now, with new Martina material on the way.
Now, I guess I would have rather seen the Martina duet had been released as the second single from AJ's album, during the summer, in place of Good Time, and had GT moved later to the 4th single released. Sure, there's no guarantee that GT would have hit #1 later like it did as the 2nd single, and that the Martina duet would have hit #1, but that would have been a sacrifice I'd be willing to make to hear that delightful, energetic song on the radio.

jonsolo, I agree. I hate that the Alan/Martina duet won't get released.
The various duets on Reba's cd that won't go released....the Carrie/Brad duet that won't be released...and now the AJ/Martina duet that likely won't get released. Not liking this trend at all.

I'm going to hold off listening until a studio clip is released, but I really want to like this. Martina's whole last album was just OK for me, although she's always been one of my favorites. I'm ready for her to make an album as good as Evolution.

I like the song! I think if other artist go to #1 putting out the same stuff over and over..why not Martina? At least hers sounds good.

Well, how many Love songs, breakup songs, cheatin songs ect are out there? There's only so many themes to sing about I don't know to many songs that have themes that has never been done or hasn't been done since. It is what it is. If it's a good song, why not enjoy it?

The lyric is definitely cringe-worthy. I have very little interest in hearing this.

This is going for adds on November 17th. Since the CMAs are on the 12th (and she's up for Femalve Vocalist), my guess is that she will debut it there.

Just sent to radio. I really like this upon first listen, it reminds me of older Martina music, not any of the inspirational/feel good stuff she's done recently, although this does have inspirational lyrics- it's upbeat.

If she would use a tad more restraint on the word Ride, this would be really good. That's the only real oversinging she does, and it's not to the point of being cringe-worthy. Plus, I kinda like the production (a rarity with Martina's music), so I was definetly pleased when I heard this. This should easily get her back in the T10.

OK, I found this song on youtube (the full studio version), since all about country links never work for me, and I have to say that I love this song. This is probably my favorite Martina single since...I can't even remember when. "How Far" maybe. If this is any indication of what her album will be like, it'll be a long wait until March 31st. I think a return to the top 10 is very likely and, all depending on her timing, I wouldn't rule out #1. This song is a very pleasant surprise. Off to a great start by debuting at #43 this week. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK_2TKuYX0I
