Is this just Hitzradio or the entire nation, too? I thought Pop radio was done with rap acts after 2005 with Green Day, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah (not to say all the songs on that list are rap, but jeeze!)
Comments?

REALLY!?!?! :o
Gosh, I had no idea they actually switched thier genre! I just thought they were more rhythmic leaning! WOW! So, no more Weezer/Kelly Clarkson/Natasha Beddingfield on the station..... ???
And Powerhitz, the brand new "growing" internet radio staion plays nothing but rhythmic songs as thier recurrents and golds. Even with currents, they play mostly rhythmic.
I guess I'm going strictly XM. This is BIG news, though! I'll edit the title of the thread.

That really sucks. I'm a casual listener on HitzRadio. I really thought this urban music domination would be gone this year, but it seems like it's bigger than ever...

Yes, it's true. It was a hard decision, not to mention a big risk, but we have decided to switch over to CHR/Rhythmic since last week.
But even so, we're still a pop-leaning rhythmic, so we actually still play Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Natasha Bedingfield, Pussycat Dolls, Cascada, etc, just maybe not as much as before (note: from the list, you'd notice that we actually added Gorillaz). Also, we don't spin songs like crazy, unlike a "true" CHR/Rhythmic on terrestrial radio.

Curious, what prompted the changeover? Did you notice better reaction to the Rhythmic stuff? Or was it more of a staff preference?

The main reason behind the move was that we were being beaten in ratings by a rival who had much more financial backing than we did. We knew we couldn't stay on the Pop format, so we decided to turn CHR/Rhythmic since we always had a Rhythmic-lean to our playlist anyway (and yes, we did notice a slight better reaction towards that direction too, though the difference was not very significant).
