If they'd release the dang single on ITunes maybe, just maybe, people would care...More than half the country hasn't even heard this song yet... Of course, his label seems to be using the genius strategy of holding the single from download until the album drops. It worked for Ne-Yo because So Sick was played constantly and will probably work for Rihanna for the same reason, but Ashley isn't exactly rolling in the airplay, so it can't hurt. It's not like "Let U Go" is going to be #1 on the Hot 100 if they do that. I think Nick Lachey's new single has been getting better airplay since it was put up for download. Unfortunately, this is starting to look like an UGLY trend... same for the new Jewel, Rihanna and Hoobastank songs... I guess the record companies want to make KAZAA and Napster some money. :( FYI, all 4 songs you can listen to via all-access links...

"Pon De Replay" peaked at #2 on pop and I think made the top 5 on rhythmic. It went #1 on iTunes as well.
"Pon De Replay" has the advantage of not only it being her first ever single but being a big hit for her in the process so I believe that helps people remember the song. Whether "SOS" is or will be more memorable will depend on what it can do for her album sales. If it can do what "Pon De Replay" couldn't do and that is sell boatloads of albums and lead to her first #1 album, then I think it will be more remembered and be bigger than PDR. I think "SOS" has a good chance of being the bigger (and more memorable) hit and the sample helps its case in a significant way. The song's promotional tie-in with Nike doesn't hurt either and more people know Rihanna now than they did almost a year ago.
But of course she hasn't even released a handful of singles yet and Rihanna's still very young so SHE herself may not even be remembered years from now let alone her music. If this upcoming album doesn't go at least platinum, she may not have a bright future to look ahead to.

I just have this feeling from the hype that SOS WILL sell more albums. And I think it will sell a lot of downloads too. But those are just feelings of course. I also think SOS will come close to meeting PDR in airplay (possibly more on pop, and close on rhy) If anything, I think she will be known for two big songs-not PDR being her one big song. That just doesnt make sense to me at all. I do agree that she may be forgotten in a few years, but I think SOS will be the remembered single of any of them-or the one mentioned when they have where are they now or one hit wonder type shows

I doubt you'll be hearing much from her in 5 years unless she creates some stuff that is capable of establishing a fanbase instead of just being "radio friendly"...

I dont know is Rihanna is here to stay or not, but I think she will be here for awhile. If they didnt have faith in her, they really didnt have to rush out this new album. I think she found herself a niche too. She was sort of just another urban artist at first, but now she is become more like a dance/pop artist with some urban connections too. Sort of like a modern day Janet Jackson

All her singles have sounded different from each other and set her apart. I think SOS has a great chance at being her highest peaking single at pop (Y100 plays it 24/7), although not so on rhythmic..i'm surprised it's getting as much play as it is there in 2006.
