I was wondering which Carrie song they'd release officially (though I'm sure all 4 will chart). My personal favorite is "The First Noel," because her voice at the end of that track is flawless, but I'll live with the choice. I was hoping they wouldn't post any Christmas tracks until after Halloween. There's still 55 more days if I counted right...

Thanks, S4C. I always like Oh Holy Night and Carrie's is no exception. I do think she punches it a bit too soon instead of building up to the power and I wish she sung two different verses instead of the same verse twice but it's nice.

I hope they release more off of Faith's CD. I want A Baby changes everything of course but all the songs of the cd are amazing and timeless! Never really cared for "Little Drummer boy" but I love her verison. She sounds great on on Winter Wonderland. Love her version of "O Holy Night" powerful without over singing it. Great vocal control. I could go on forever..lol This is such an amazing Christmas cd!

Julianne Hough released one of those Sounds of the Season EPs. I imagine something from there will get picked up.
EDIT: After checking out the links above, I think I embarrassingly have to admit I like the Gregg song best of the bunch. It's the sort of hokey theme that I get tired of hearing most of the year, but that I really enjoy during the holiday season, when a lot of people most need the reminder. I don't know who this guy is, but I hope someone picks up his song.

Whitney Duncan's All I Want For Christmas is now available on iTunes.
I'm still trying to decide if I like it enough to buy it. I really wish artists would start coming out with original Christmas songs, rather than the same ol' same old.

Why are they sending this out? It has an adds date of NOV 17th on All Access! It was on last years chart, and did really well Peaking at #27 on the country chart, and #90 on the hot 100 (with airplay only) It also peaked at #2 on AC. They should have sent out a new song off the CD, like "O Holy Night" That is a brilliant vocal!!!

^According to the Mediabase, all 4 of the Christmas songs were sent out, and O Holy Night is on the "Cool New Music" page of AllAccess. I don't understand why they are sending this out though, either. But hey, whatever works. And about anything works with Carrie.

Both of Carrie's are amazing. "O Holy Night" is my favorite Christmas song ever anyways.

I'd have to say that John Berry's version of O'Holy night is still my favorite but I would love to have Faith's version out! Hopefully they will play a number of songs of "Joy To The World". She did an amazing job with these classics. At least with all these artist doing Christmas songs they will have more to choose from since they play all christmas music after Thanksgiving.

A radio edit (3:48) of Carrie's "Do You Hear What I Hear" was sent out to radio today. Since the version that was sent out last year was 4:13, I imagine this new version will be allowed to chart?

^ I hope not. That could start an ugly trend of labels exploiting the rules, which I'm not a big fan of. I personally feel that Christmas songs should have a separate chart in the first place, so they don't screw up the actual chart, but that's a different discussion altogether...

Has anyone here purchased Mary Chapin Carpenter's new Christmas CD?
I listened to the clips but can't tell if it's good enough to buy. The songs seem to all have a blah mellow tone and I couldn't really tell one clip from another. I was disappointed because I loved the idea of all new Christmas songs along with obscure ones but was not impressed with the clips.
Thoughts???

I guess it should be of note that Carrie's "Oh Holy Night" was removed from the Cool New Music section of AllAccess; perhaps another sign that DYHWIH is going to be the only song pushed full-force.

I wish there was a way to get soundscan totals for christmas albums by country artists....
I would not even have a guess as to what holiday albums by Lee Ann Womack, Lonestar, LeAnn Rimes, SHeDaisy, Jo Dee Messina, and many others would be....
I realize these totals are likely not that high, but some of these albums have been out for years, so surely a few are approaching GOLD?

The songs seem to all have a blah mellow tone and I couldn't really tell one clip from another. I was disappointed because I loved the idea of all new Christmas songs along with obscure ones but was not impressed with the clips. Thoughts??? It's hard to describe the album. I haven't purchased it yet because I'm waiting for Christmas music to go on sale, but it's one I plan on buying because I think it's worth it after listening to a friend's copy. Here's what I think: 1) The songs are, like most MCC songs, very well-written, and her delivery is, for the most part, spot on. 2) That said, it's not a Christmas party album, and it's not light entertainment either. If you didn't listen closely to the songs, you would miss the holiday themes entirely in a lot of them. The nice part about that is, it's an album that will probably hold up well outside of the holiday season. 3) So, based on the above two points, I think people who buy it wanting a Mary Chapin Carpenter album will be satisfied. I think people who buy it wanting a holiday album may be less so, depending on how open they are to one that's a bit more reflective and less direct than most. I hope that's at least somewhat helpful.

Is it just me, or are there a LOT more X-mas songs being released this year compared to past years. I know a lot of the songs aren't eligible to chart, but still...
