This is a pretty good song. My local 80's station plays this a lot. They play a lot of Journey, actually.
My favorite Journey song is "Seperate Ways".

Not a bad song, I think I prefer it more now than when it was a hit, because I expected more from them. Of course I really loved the near ultimate sell out of theirs, "Who's Crying Now", the 90 second instrumental fade is worth picking up a great set of headphones for.
My fave Journey song is prolly "Stone In Love." I tried it for karaoke once, what was I thinking?

You get credit for trying. As for the song, I love it. One of my favorities by them. Journey is an all around great band. Talented musicians, a talented singer, great songwriters.

It is so sad that Journey is regarded as pretty much of a joke by a lot of people. Why is that? Is it the music, the personalities of the guys, what?

Journey is realllllly underrated as a group. I went to their concert at Wolf Trap this past June and it was phenomenal.
Don't Stop Believin' is a token hit, but I def like Separate Ways a lot more. What's surprising about them is that I found I knew many of their songs, but didn't put artist and song together.

I'm not positive, but I think this song was playing during the roller skating scene in "Monster."

It is so sad that Journey is regarded as pretty much of a joke by a lot of people. Why is that? Is it the music, the personalities of the guys, what? I guess you had to be around at the time to understand, but this record was released with the obvious intent that it cross over to pop. Rock fans aren't usually thrilled when a new album is released that's full of pop music but is shopped to the rock format first. The reason is that such a marketing strategy is more concerned with sales that with artistic expression. This wasn't a bad song, but it wasn't rock. It was pop with rock guitars. If the band and the label had gone straight to pop with the then-new releases I don't think anyone would have cared so much. Journey was already headed in an obvious pop direction and rock fans didn't want their format cluttered up with music that more properly belonged at pop. In other words, it wasn't so much arrogance toward the music itself as it was anger at the marketing style. And incidentally, this is a perfect example of what went wrong with the rock format in the early 80s and why it wasn't until Nirvana came along years later that the rock format was revived into something that resembled its artistic roots.

It is so sad that Journey is regarded as pretty much of a joke by a lot of people. Why is that? Is it the music, the personalities of the guys, what? To make a long opinion boring, and to expound on Aaron's correct statement a bit, bands like Journey, Foreigner, Styx, Asia, Genesis, I'm forgetting several, all started out doing a style of music they loved, whether it was blues based rock, progressive rock (members of Asia), or just straight out kick ass rock. Then they decided, why not compromise ourselves a little so we can make some more money by putting out radio friendly shlock that kids will eat up! I mean, when you listen to an act like asia churning out 4 minute dildo tracks with lyrics like "i never meant to be so bad to you'" and compare them to stuff that the band members (who all grew up as classically trained musicians) played in their earlier acts like King Crimson, ELP, Spooky Tooth, Yes, and the like, then you see, that they happily compromised their love of music for the love of the cash register jingling. I have no problems with acts changing their sound. usually, in cases like Talking Heads, and Radiohead, it's called musically growing. that's not the case with the corporate rockers. And I'll be honest, I do like many of these songs, I think many Journey songs I would like more if they sounded exactly like they did, but the artists name was Fury, or Hades or something.

It has to be because of LAGUNE BEACH - a character listened to it in his car and then later listened to it again with a girl, who sang along some. It's interesting, though, because they never actually played the chorus. I'm surprised people even knew what song to go and download.

:o Wow. Its good to see a new generation of fans embracing such a great song. Back to the whole "Why don't critics like Journey?" issue, the band took a change in direction when Steve Perry & Jonathan cain came aboard. Neil Schon started off as a guitarist in Santana back as a teenager, before leaving to start Journey with Gregg Rolie. The band's manager brought in Perry to sing because the Schon/Rolie jam-band style wasn't selling. Perry was much more polished and pop-oriented, and the band's songs became based on hooks and melodies rather than 8 minute long snoozefests. The guys were talented, but jamming gets tired real fast for most listeners. Rolie left and was replaced by Cain, who had a pop background with The Baby's, and pushed the group further in that direction. The Perry/Cain pop style won out over the more rock oriented stuff, and as a result they became one of the biggest bands of all time. It was all a matter of the new guys taking over the band.

I wonder what led to it being in 2 shows in the same week.
Anyway, "DSB" is an interesting song because the chorus is the last thing you hear in the song.

I hear this more than any other Journey song (except maybe "Any Way You Want It", which is still a surprise) on Joe FM.
Despite "Open Arms" being a 7-week #1, I rarely hear that on there.
This is a rather good song.

He left? Clearly the reason wasn't a solo career, as his last solo hit was in 1994.
