OK, so we all know the song, and we all know its meaning which has impacted virtually every one of us. It is perhaps the most universal rock hit EVER composed.
However, how exactly does this classic make you feel inside?
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Overrated!
I never knew it was originally released in 1971 though... I always thought it was from the album he released just before he died.

I personally have never understood the hype of the Beatles either but whatever. The song is okay but doesn't quit deserve all the hype it gets.

I personally have never understood the hype of the Beatles I agree much of their earlier material was pretty ordinary and repetitive, but you can't possibly look at songs such as "Hey Jude", "Come Together" or "Nowhere Man" and not see talent there. But I digress...this thread is about "Imagine", not the Beatles...

I'll say what I say whenever this song comes up in conversation: It's amazing that a song that wishes for a world with "no religion too" is so universally appreciated. I'm not a particularly religious person, so it doesn't bother me, but I can't "imagine" more devout people listening to this song and not being offended.
As for my personal opinion, I'd agree with the previous two posters that it's kind of overrated. Not a bad song, but it doesn't touch me in any particular way.

I respect those of you who consider "Imagine" overrated, but I am also curious to know why.
There is no wrong answer in this kind of discussion! :)
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I'll say what I say whenever this song comes up in conversation:Β It's amazing that a song that wishes for a world with "no religion too" is so universally appreciated.Β I'm not a particularly religious person, so it doesn't bother me, but I can't "imagine" more devout people listening to this song and not being offended. As for my personal opinion, I'd agree with the previous two posters that it's kind of overrated.Β Not a bad song, but it doesn't touch me in any particular way. I agree about the religion part of the song, and wondering how people can overlook that for the other messages. yet it makes sense if you think about it. Religion is often used as a reason to hate and kill, and the song's message is all about pacifism and getting along. It's about imagining that those differences don't exist. I think it is a beautiful song that still has an interesting message from the heart of the composer. I personally love the song and it always makes me think about the middle east and how they need to really hear the message of the song.

The song itself is actually quite simple, lyrically and musically. Even I can play the piano of it for the most part. I really like it though and love Chantal's live cover of the song that I have on mp3. It's great!

I love this. It was wonderfully used in the book "A Time For Dancing." I recommend everyone to give that one a read.

Imagine only got to #3 in 1971 but went to #1 in 1981 on the UK charts after the singer's tragic death

I used to be able to play it on piano, as I mentioned a few years ago but I lost the website that had the riff in piano-sheet-music form so now I forget. I used to know it without the sheet-music too. :( It saddens me.

Never liked it. Not a good song no matter who's doing it.

Never liked it. Not a good song no matter who's doing it. Have you ever heard Randy Crawford's version? I'd say that's the best one.

You can hear a sample www.amazon.com/Best-Randy-Crawford/dp/B000002MZH/ref=m_art_pr_1/102-5239551-1136116I don't know where you can go to hear the whole thing. But Randy has one of the loveliest voices I've ever heard, so I would check out the other songs on it as well.
