I heard somewhere that this song is about having an orgasm. I've always liked it but it's far from my favorite Madonna song.

I love this song! It's very possibly my favorite Madonna song ever.
This song peaked at #13 on the R&R chart, but it was on the chart for fourteen weeks, way over the average stay for a #13 song back in 1984. The song was even among the Top 84 of 1984, making it the only song that made the list without ever hitting the Top Ten.

I've always thought this song was boring.

I still like it. Old school Madonna.. can't go wrong with that.

In my opinion, this is the best song she has ever done. I think it may be one of the best records to come out in the 80’s period. She just sings her heart out on this…and match the soulful vocal with the charming hook and compelling melody and you have a truly magical record.

This is a great song. One of Madonna's better older ones. The video was cute too.

I hated the version she sang on the Sticky & Sweet Tour.

Such a great song. It doesn't stand out too much in her catalog, but I guess that just shows how strong her 80s material was.

This is actually one of my favorite songs in her catalog and easily the standout from her debut. Still sounds so fresh, classic Madonna.

I love this track! It's one of my favorite 80s songs by anyone. It's definitely one of Madonna's more soulful vocals, and it's so catchy. I heard somewhere that this song is about having an orgasm. Don't "they" say that about half of Madonna's songs?

In recent times, she performed a slowed-down version of this on the Tears of a Clown show and also on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon (it's his favorite)- stronger renditions than the S&S Tour. The latter was OK, but wish they would have kept her actual vocals from the performance on the DVD - even if they weren't among her best - rather than replace them with the "live," girlie-in-spots studio vocal
someguy- I wouldn't say it doesn't stand out. It's among her five most-played classics on U.S. radio.

Because it wasn't huge upon release (so it doesn't feel overplayed) and isn't as kitschy/novelty as some of her other 80s hits, it makes sense to me it's one of her most played songs. Of course, being really good helps, too.

This, Rain, Live To Tell, and Crazy For You are in my Top 4 Madonna songs of ALL time. Classic, beautiful, and timeless.

I prefer the album version over the one they put on the Immaculate Collection.

Probably one of the most durable - and possibly even most beloved - in Madonna's discography. At least based on various polls and surveys, etc, that I've come across over the years. And the amount of spins it gets on classic gold radio stations.
I specifically remember being at the entrance of a lake campground one summer as a young kid and it was on the station wagon's radio. I didn't really know much about Madonna, or even know it was her singing. She ended up being nothing like what I was imagining in my head that day once I saw the video. And then there was no avoiding her and ever evolving appearance from that point on.
Anyway, the production is so sweet and timeless, and her voice is so young and warm.
Classic.

I knew from watching the music video that Madonna was gonna be something big.
This was an enjoyable song.

I like it just fine but I never, ever got why this, of her whole great 80's output, is so revered and made special mention of so often. It's not even a highlight on the album for me.
