I borrowed Mariah Carey's "Rainbow" CD from a friend. I remember some of the songs, but I was hoping someone could confirm which songs were released to the radio, and in which order. Was "Crybaby" played on the radio? I seem to remember hearing it a couple years back.

The third single was a double release. She sent "Can't Take That Away" to AC and CHR/Pop and "Crybaby" to Urban and Rhythmic. Columbia didn't want to release a third single. Hell, they didn't even want to shoot a video for "Thank God I Found You" or record remixes for it. Mariah basically paid for everything after Sony stopped promoting her after they sent "Thank God I Found You" for adds.
As for the song, it's great lyrically. If any song and video foreshadowed her breakdown, it's this one. It's all about insomnia and her breakup with Derek Jeter. Too bad the song was produced by Damizza who should never bring his overproduced, dated hip-hop to anywhere but the mixtapes and Mariah's vocals were in the worst shape ever in 1999 and 2000.

Oh, I never answered your question.
1. Heartbreaker 2. Thank God I Found You 3. Can't Take That Away / Crybaby
"Against All Odds" was the third single outside of the US.

I love Cry baby,to me it's a classic. The beat is hot,i like the way she sings it,it's definately one of my favourite r&b song from Mariah. Too bad they didn't support this song I think Cry baby is better than all the r&b songs from TEOM (except Wbt which is an another classic) Ps: The track which follow this one in the Rainbow album is terrible

Thanks a lot, Orange Clouds. I do remember "Can't Take That Away" on the lower reaches of the AC chart, and now I see where "Crybaby" fits into it all.

Oh Crybaby is great one of the best songs on rainbow along with Heartbreaker, Petals , Can't take that away and Against All odds even though she was the worst vocally during 99-00 i still like the roughness of her vocals during specially the ballads it fits perfectly love them on AOO , Mariah's Theme and Petals.

There were parts of this song I liked, but then the ending when she is practically screamin in a whiny like voice. I just wanted to smack her. Some of the whininess of it drove me crazy. I liked where she was going with it the general idea but it wasn't executed to the best it could have been.

Mariah basically paid for everything after Sony stopped promoting her after they sent "Thank God I Found You" for adds. I did not know this! That completely blows my mind!!! I know people don't really like TGIFY, but why would you not want to promote the follow-up to a #1 hit with strong airplay and strong sales??? Even in light of the Columbia politics, that is still just a terrible business decision. That's just like throwing potential revenue away. [BTW, I think that Crybaby and CTTA are among Mariah's worst, even though plenty of people really seem to love Crybaby.]

I loved how Mariah had used with her low low voice when singing some of the verses and the chorus.

Yeah, the long ending is great. This song actually reminds me a bit of We Belong Together.

Its ok but I seem to be the only person on the planet who likes Did I Do That over it.... I also seem to be one of the few who feels Rainbow is one of her best albums.....

Nail in the coffin of Mariah's first CHR career.
At this point (After the urban-heavy up and mid-tempos Honey, Breakdown, Sweetheart, Heartbreaker and this) CHR had stopped asking her for more "Always be my Baby"s and "Someday"s and realized that she wasn't going to give them what they wanted; Which is why reaction to "Loverboy" the following year was so lukewarm.

I LOVE the rough vocals on this song.
Its funny how critics always criticize her for being too mechanicalized with her voice, and not being able to emote.
This song did all of that.

This is one of her most heartfelt, soulful vocals. You can hear every inch of the frustration she's singing about in her voice.
