Today I watched The Other Sister for the first time ever. (I liked it). During the movie, I heard for the first time in a LONG time "The Animal Song"! I loved this song when it was out!!! This is definitely one of those "quick risers/quick droppers" on the charts, but still a song that somewhat reminds me of the late winter/spring of 1999. What were your thoughts on the song?

I really liked this one... another great song from Savage Garden. Peaked at #2 on my chart, and was my #35 song of 1999.

This song has the distinction of being the only Savage Garden single I don't like. It was just a little too simplistic and childish in my opinion. Seems like it should be restricted to Radio Disney.

My favorite Savage Garden songs: 1) Affirmation 2) I Want You 3) The Animal Song 4) Truly Madly Deeply 5) To The Moon And Back Remember a couple years ago when "Who Let The Dogs Out" was an LDD on AT40 but Casey played "The Animal Song" on AT20 and it threw everyone off?

I liked this song but not until I went out and bought the "Affirmation" cd. When it first came out I hated it. I think it is the only SG single not to go top 20

Great song used in a sick, sappy, offensive, manipulative, horrible movie.

This is by far their worst single. Thankfully, I never heard it on the radio.

I loved the song when it first came out but it had an incredibly quick turnover and I got sick of it right away. Everything after this song I didn't much like from Savage Garden.

Yes, that was only the start of a very annoying practice of changing LDDs if they were even the slightest bit out of format for a certain version of the show. Hopefully, now that the LDDs will be gone from AT40, they'll stop splitting hairs and play the same songs on both AT20s

This is when they started going downhill. Basically I only liked their first CD.

I was never really a fan of this song. "To The Moon And Back" and "I Want You" are so much better in my opinion.

This is by far their worst single. This song was just awful. I only like two Savage Garden songs - (1) I Want You and (2) the interchangeable Truly Madly Deeply/I Knew I Loved You.

Haha... looking back, this song was a bit... special. If it had been the first single from any band I probably would've hated it. But as it was and is, Savage Garden is a favorite and this one hit #1 on my chart for two weeks... one of three of their songs that did. The rest got stopped elsewhere in the top 5 for some reason. If only we COULD live like animals, careless and free!

I found this song reallly annoying and quite stupid. When I bought the album, I always skipped it but I didn't mind the bonus remix of this song they tacked onto the end. This song and "Affirmation" are the worst singles SG put out.... they're both station changers for me.

I liked it a lot. Depending on when the wind blows, it's either my second or third favorite SG song.

I didn't know what to make of them based on "I Want You" alone, but then they roped me in with the stellar "To the Moon & Back" and "Truly Madly Deeply."
However, this song came next and they almost had to rebuild themselves from the ground up again, this was so bad.
Then "I Knew I Loved You" didn't break any new ground and was kind of dull. "Crash and Burn" is on par with "I Want You." Then they released another dog with "Affirmation" and broke up soon after.
In 1999, I bought the debut album for dirt cheap, just so I could have a copy of "TTM&B" and "TMD," but I haven't spun the whole thing more than twice. I knew I wouldn't like it. They are so not who I wanted them to be.

I'm a big fan of TFF, and these two clowns were so blatantly influenced by TFF that it convinced me to buy their debut album. Turns out the record isn't that good, but I agree on 'To The Moon & Back'...that's one hell of a tune.

Yeah, "To the Moon and Back" is this group's outlier. In retrospect, I don't know where it came from. "I Want You" was okay. Everything else, including "The Animal Song", was not very memorable at all.

i never really liked it, this was like Josh said, their worst single ever... This song could not pull what "Break Me, Shake Me" did for me (hated it at first then grew into one of my favorite SG songs)

"I Want You", "Break Me, Shake Me", and "Crash and Burn" were my favourite Savage Garden songs.
Or rather, they were the only ones I could tolerate. The rest all sucked.

Not my favorite of theirs but still good. Darren's singing is a little awkward in parts.

I wonder how the current crowd feels about this song 'cause wow, reading some of these older responses I didn't know it wasn't well-liked. I enjoyed this song at least (unsurprising, since I love SG) and it was a major hit for them here (also unsurprising).
