I sit and wonder... Why wasn't this a single?
It was a nice song and deserved better. It makes me want to hold my hands up high and wave them from side to side slowly.

As far as the singles go from this album, they nailed it. They got the singles right and knew exactly when to stop releasing them. This would have probably been the only other song I would have thought about releasing besides "New Agenda" which had too much of a "Rhythm Nation" leftover vibe to be released. However, I think they were smart to start where they did. It's a great song but "Again" and "Anytime, Anyplace" are much stronger ballads.

This isn't the Jimmy Harnen song, is it? Even though Janet's song wasn't released as a single, it still got lots of airplay. It was on the Billboard Airplay monitor for months and months.

Went top ten on my personal chart thanks to plentiful airplay on the old 99.9 Kiss FM in Daytona Beach. I still love it!

I love it. This was one of those songs that I always felt should have been released also but you can't argue with the singles they chose from Janet, with the exception of "You Want This" which was alright. I'd have probably released this instead of that but at the same time she had already released 3 ballads from the album ("Again", "Any Time, Any Place" and "That's The Way Love Goes") so I can kinda understand why it wasn't meant to be. Anyway, it's one of her best ballads and a real gem from the album.

I honestly think this could have been a bigger hit than "That's The Way Love Goes". It get some strong airplay for a non-single (which was practically unheard of back then).
Beautiful song! And I loved that Nellee Hooper remix.

And I loved that Nellee Hooper remix. When I got the janet. REMIXED album years back, I immediately went to the Nellee Hooper mix of this. I was quite worried that one of my favorite songs of all time would be ruined by a bad mix. I just didn't think it could get better than the album version. Boy, was I wrong. I barely listen to the album version anymore, but I listen to this remix all the time. I don't know why I love depressing ass songs like this, but I love 'em!

Do you happen to have the "If" and "That's The Way Love Goes" single versions, I know they aren't much different from the album versions, but I like to make my own "Greatest Hits" compilations with the original radio versions.

Yes, but not on me--back at home. I do have remixes of the songs, though.

Yes, but not on me--back at home. I do have remixes of the songs, though. Do you have a remix of "If" that has guys saying "the rhythm, the rhythm" and Janet saying "you know you want me". I hear this remix on the radio every day on old school lunch, I have looked for this remix everywhere and now I'm wondering if it was made by the radio station.

It wasnt a single because at that time the song was getting airplay through the entire janet era. If it would have been released it probably would have underperformed because alot of stations would have already took it off their play lists by the time they released it as a last single.

Janet's best ballad for me. Virgin used this to drive album sales and satisfy Urban stations that balked at playing the much rockier If. Then it spread over to pop causing the long run on the Hot 100 Airplay chart...

This is a gorgeous song, and would have made a great final single for the album. When asked which track from her career she wished would have been released, Janet has mentioned this song, and that's telling. It's relatable, melodic, sing-along, and would fit well on the radio in any season. In fact, it's probably my favourite ballad from her. Her vocal is so beautiful and affecting; there's just something about it.

I hated that remix of the song. I used to skip that song on Janet remixed.
