:( I thought it was "O Holy Night" :( Oh Holy Night is available at All Access, but right now, it doesn't have an adds date. Personally, I think radio will just play whatever they want to play, and I think every one of her Christmas songs will chart during the holiday season. Didn't this go for adds last year? ??? I'm thinking it didn't have an adds date, but it still did very well. The same Christmas songs can get played year after year because Christmas songs are only played for a short time during the year. Multiple artists have charted year after year with the same Christmas single. Anyways, I don't think a thread is needed for this (and I think Dudley and others will agree with me). There is already a thread for discussing Christmas music in the Country format here: pulsemusic.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=country&action=display&thread=72043

I made one because it is an official single. That section is for holiday songs, not ones actually being sent for adds. It's likely this is the last single from Carnival Ride in 2008, with the next actual one being released in 2009.

Anyways, I don't think a thread is needed for this (and I think Dudley and others will agree with me). Agreed. If we made separate threads for all Christmas songs going for adds, it would be a mess. Also, it's unlikely any Christmas song is going to chart for more than 3-4 weeks.

Multiple artists have charted year after year with the same Christmas single. True, but that hasn't happened since 2001 (?) when they changed the rules so that Christmas songs can't chart more than once. Had they not made that rule, I have a feeling that we'd have 59 Christmas songs on the charts this year (which is exactly what happens at the AC format; they even have Christmas songs get to #1 for crying out loud).

I wonder what Billboard will do with this. It seems that Arista is going to actively push the song at country radio. Does that play into Carrie's #1 streak? Will they even let the song chart again? I'm going to assume no and yes or Arista would not have made this move, but it's interesting none-the-less.

DYHWIH went to number 2 on AC last year. It is stupid to release it again as it will never peak that high again, certainly not as a recurrent;.
they need to release Oh Holy Night or What child is This. She blows the roof off those songs.

Her label won't really 'push' this, since her next single figures to hit radio later this month or early next month.

Actually, if they are indeed pushing this, it may indicate that they've tabled the next single until Jan. 09. I would say if they haven't announced the next single in 2 weeks (Thanksgiving), then there won't be one until '09.

I wonder what Billboard will do with this. It seems that Arista is going to actively push the song at country radio. Does that play into Carrie's #1 streak? Chart historians typically ignore Christmas singles when discussing an artist's chart history. For example, Alabama had a Christmas single that peaked at #35 in the middle of their 21 consecutive #1 hits. If you count that chart hit, then Alabama's string was broken. But chart historians typically ignore that single and credit Alabama with 21 consecutive #1 hits.

I like her version of DYHWIH. Smooth, clear, and powerful vocals. The production is really smooth and rich also.

My first instinct was to lock this thread for the reasons somebody60 and rowdawg21 suggested, but Taylor made a good argument for a new thread and there does seem to be a push behind this. I'm still of two minds about this one, so if people could PM me arguments for or against, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I can only say it will be an official single as of the 17th so my hand goes up to keep this thread open so some can track airplay/charting.

Lol, nice photoshop of her jacket from black to red for the holidays. I know, right?!? Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not seeing things ;) The decision to send this one out to radio is still a head-scratcher for me. Aside from the fact that this version has never really grown on me, it was already the Christmas single last year! What's up, Sony-no-longer-Sony-BMG? You had 4 other, and might I add, better choices. "O Holy Night" was already in the new music section, darn it!

Someone's dj in California said FOTF is the next single now. lol so who knows what is really happening here. lol
I still wish they had chosen What child is This or Oh Holy Night, because DYHWIH did well last year, and people might be sick of it, or ready for something new.
But I do love the song (DYHWIH). Carrie does a great job.

I hope this does okay, but does this really count towards her 31 streak? its just a holiday song, and its old. They should have released O Holy night or another one of her Christmas songs if they really wanted it to go #1.

It took me a second to figure out what you meant when you said 31 streak. Anyways, no, it won't count. As others have said, when the country group Alabama had their long streak of #1's, they had also released a Christmas song in the middle, which of course didn't go #1, but it didn't count against their run. I believe there are other examples as well. "Oh Holy Night" or any other Christmas song wouldn't go #1 on the Country charts either (AC radio is another story, but we're talking about her run on Country radio here), so I don't think it really matters.

They should have released O Holy night or another one of her Christmas songs if they really wanted it to go #1. If it "counts" depends on who's doing the counting. Some people still contend that Sonny James holds the record that others give to Alabama. So there's no official way to say, yes it will or no it will not. It just depends on any particular source's methodology.

^ yes just at walmart, exclusively.
I saw some nice tv ads for Faith Hills's Christmas album and it seems to be working. Her sales are going up. I hope that Walmart does some advertising for Carries Christmas bonus album-- or else no one will even know about it.
