ooh very nice Vinman! that is so funny how they made her coat red for Christmas. lol Smart too.
It is so boring with no real single to chart and monitor. I hope they release that 5th single before the holidays as it will weird to go a whole month without a carrie single on the radio (besides Holiday songs)

Watch Mediabase in the month of December and see how much spins/audience decline. The worst time of the year to release a single to radio (that's not holiday themed) is right now. And it should be blatantly obvious to Carrie fans by now, especially after seeing that ad - "Do You Hear What I Hear?" is Carrie's current single. So there's your filler material until after Santa comes.

So there's your filler material until after Santa comes. Carrie would have no problem getting airplay for a new single from Carnival Ride if it's released within the next week or two. In 2006, Kenny's "Beer In Mexico" was sent to radio on December 11th, and that one had no problem getting early airplay. However, I don't see Arista releasing a new single before January since it seems like they want to push "Do You Hear What I Hear" hard.

I kind of thought Walmart was going to do some promo for the exclusive Christmas bonus album-- like a flyer for a Black Friday sale, or even a limited Tv ad. It is not really going to sell that well if no one knows about it.

^And it's not going to sell if they don't even have it in stores! I went to my local Wal-Mart last night and there was not one Carrie CD on shelves (no SH, no CR, no CR Christmas bonus). They have her name (with its own cue card) in the country section, but there was nothing in it.
When I went there last week, there were a half-dozen Carrie CDs in stock.
The label needs to do a better job of making sure the product is available.

As I pointed out on the thread for 'Telluride' (with explicit details and a history lesson), four of the past six #1 singles of the year at both BB & R&R/Country Airchec were on the radio durig the final four-to-six weeks of the year, and none of those songs were by format superstars.
Four of 2008's projected top fifteen singles of the year (Cleaning This Gun/What Kinda Gone/Love Don't Live Here/Love Is A Beautiful Thing) were rising up the charts at this time a year ago.
Many of the biggest hits of any of the past several years by non-superstars, such as 'Good Morning Beautiful' & 'Letters From Home', were zipping up the charts at this time during their respecive chart runs; if the song is strong enough, it will move up the charts at any time of the year.
Since this tune ranked eighth in airplay among Christmas songs a year ago as Lon Helton pointed out in Country Aircheck this past Monday evening, this release and the accompanying ad campaign makes no sense whatsoever, and her streak of consecutive #1 singles is about to end, depending on how Billboard chooses to acknowledge this.

i wonder if this will get higher on the charts than most Christmas songs do because it seems like the label is promoting it and pushing it to do well. maybe top 20?

^ I was told that a Christmas song will not cut into Carrie's number 1 streak-- as it is not considered an official single off her album... just a holiday song.

Marv, according to Billboard the streak won't end with the release of this song, regardless of it being given an adds date. Since this is a holiday song, it is like a freebie.

its actually a favorite of mine, her voice is really smooth and I love the Disney style production. I think it will get played for years so a chart peak is not all that important.

Will this song be eligible to chart, since it was released to AC last year? Even if it charts on the country chart, can it on the hot 100?

Will this song be eligible to chart, since it was released to AC last year? Even if it charts on the country chart, can it on the hot 100? I was just about to post the same question. Ordinarily it would not be eligible to appear on the country chart, and I don't think a minor revision would change that. An official release would not change that either. But maybe there's something going on here I don't understand. (If it's ineligible to chart, I think it's safe to say it won't break her streak of #1 songs. So are people thinking the song can chart? I don't see why.) I don't know about the Hot 100 part of your question.

Your reasoning makes sense, but I can't see why Arista would push this song as hard as they seem to be doing if it wasn't going to be allowed to chart. Also, I don't know what you would consider a "minor revision," but the radio edit of this song that was sent to radio this year is 25 seconds shorter than the version which charted last year.

Whether this can chart on the country or Hot 100 charts depends on whether it's being "actively promoted" as a current. It seems like it is, so I'd guess it will be chart eligible, but I do not know for sure.

It seems like it is, so I'd guess it will be chart eligible, but I do not know for sure. That may be the case on the H100, but the long standing rule on the country chart was that an x-mas could only chart one year (put in place after songs like "Redneck 12 Days Of Christmas" hit the charts every December for like 5 years). But as has been previously stated, it's unlikely that Arista would've pushed this so heavily if it couldn't chart, so who knows. It looks like we'll find out soon enough though, because this has the most plays of any new X-mas song, and should have more than enough aud. to chart if it's allowed to. Actually, it looks we could already have 3 or 4 x-mas songs hitting the charts, b/c all 3 of Rascal Flatts songs appear to be in good shape to chart as well.

Have no fear, Carrie fans. The AC and country stations around here are also playing "The First Noel" and "What Child Is This?"

Well, this didn't show up in the chart highlights, so I guess it's not eligible to chart.

Unless Hit Predictor missed it, that looks to be the case. They did miss Jamie O'Neal's "Like A Woman" last week, and it re-entered at #56. I don't understand why they would actively promote a song that can't chart, but I guess getting played on the radio, and not necessarily showing up on a chart, is what promotes the track and gets listeners to notice it. 99% of radio listeners probably wouldn't notice that it didn't re-enter the chart, so I guess the label doesn't consider it a big deal.

Well, this didn't show up in the chart highlights, so I guess it's not eligible to chart. There's a chance it just might not have enough audience to chart yet. The quick cut info isn't too reliable because this song is getting a lot of spins at AC/Hot AC.

Cary at CF said that Do You Hear What I hear will not be recognized by Billboard charts, as it is recurrent.
I thought that was the case all along-- so now I am even more confused though. lol
why release a song that can't chart on Billboard since it is recurrent, when there are other new Xmas songs to choose from?

I mean, only four #1 singles from Carnival Ride? They need to step it up. And Taylor's "Last Christmas" is charting on Mediabase, not Billboard. Same as Carrie.
