i found i dare you very pop-friendly, but i would have to agree this has a slight edge. really a fantastic song..the vocals and progression are incredible. wouldnt surprise me if this went top 20 Yeah IMO I Dare You might've been more pop-friendly, but it wore out too quickly...this one's a little "deeper" IMO

#70 on Hot 100!
Outpeaks "Save Me" that peaked at #72. This is their third song to chart on Hot 100 with the other being "I Dare You" that peaked at #88.
It's now their biggest hit there.

"I Dare You" peaked at #88 Just wonderin if that was just before downloads were used cause seems really low even for Hot 100 doesnt matter when it was, if its not rap the Hot 100 hates it. the Pop 100 is a much less biased and more accurate representation of chartng songs. Takes airplay more into consideration

I think this song will go Top 30 on CHR\POP and Top 20 on Hot AC, not too many Modern Rock hits at all these days that have crossover capabilities. I was really surprised "Rise Above This" by Seether was not a hit. Sign of the times I guess.

^I'd actually be really surprised if this did better on Hot AC than CHR (since I Dare You did almost nothin on HAC), but I guess a lot can change in three years
Also, between CHR, HAC, and Alternative, def. seems like Rise Above This was def. a hit (or at least seems like I heard it a whole lot)

This is catchy, but the chorus lyrics kill it for me. The suicide letter from a 13 year old lyrics just don't connect with me at all, and I don't know if I really agree with the message that might send to a lot of young pop listeners. I'm never one for censorship or anything, but this song makes it sound like it's alright to commit suicide if you have problems with your parents.

I've always interpreted it as being about him getting ready to runaway, not commit suicide. Even if it is about suicide, it doesn't really hit you over the head with that, and I think it would go over most listeners heads. Never Too Late for example has much more obvious lyrics about suicide.

^Wow completely didn't get any message about suicide at all (IMO that'd just be wrong to put out a song sayin killin yourself is a "second chance")
Seems like it's just about gettin away from a bad situation (or one ur stuck in, addicted to, etc.) and startin over

First off, how do we know this person is 13 and not 16, 26, or 56? Second, while I guess the lyrics could be interpreted as committing suicide, they certainly didn't come across like that to me on first listen at all, and I still don't view the song that way. But even if it was, songs like "Otherside" did perfectly fine on pop and rock radio, and I don't recall a rash of slit throats taking over young, impressionable pop radio listeners.

I looked up the song meaning from the horse's mouth:
However, I found tons of other people questioning whether or not this song is about suicide. The lyrics remind me of the lyrics to blink-182's "Adam's Song".
I don't think it's ridiculous to believe that many people will get the wrong impression from those lyrics.

Never got it til you said it, sorry.
Is that really what you thought about every time you heard the song? It's supposed to be an uplifting type of song, not depressing. You are right though, the lyrics could be interpreted that way to a point, but once you get to the "Sometimes goodbye is a second chance" part I think that theory gets thrown out the window.
Any chance you may have had some preconceived notion before listening to the song? I know many people tend to think the whole post-grunge set is depressed and hates life. And I realize that he's considered a legend in the rock world, but I think Kurt Cobain left that stigma on anything remotely resembling grunge (hence Dave Grohl and Gavin Rossdale removing themselves from that genre haha).
3DG's "Never too Late" is, of course, designed to be an encouraging song. And yet I've still heard people say how depressing it is. Seether's "Rise Above This" was probably one of the most inspiring songs of 2008, and yet many people still didn't get it. I'm not accusing you of anything, but I'm just saying this appears to be a common misconception.

Yeah sorry, Black Moses, but I doubt many people will think it's about suicide. I honestly had not thought of that until you brought it up. I could see how somethings about it could be interpreted that way, but I know I never had seen it being about that. I think the lyrics "sometimes goodbye is a second chance" kinda solidifies it's not about suicide. Why would suicide be a second chance?

Ha, just saw that Phobia basically said the same thing about the lyric I did.

Some people just go with the melody and "mood" (like the video) of the song and they don't really listen to the lyrics and understand the message of the song. Perfect example is "Never Too Late" - I love that song beyond words but I always get depressed whenever I hear it. Not really lyric/message wise but it just gives a "depressing" vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if most people felt the same way that's why it didn't do as well as it deserves at the Top 40 charts.

Quite generic, but that is par for the course for today's mainstream rock. The song is catchy enough to do decently on CHR.

^Really hopin it catches on CHR but kinda worried pop listeners won't understand what it's about (like it's theme is too complex or somethin...) - really hope I'm wrong though lol
