Mary J. Blige to Play Nina Simone in BiopicR&B songstress Mary J. Blige will tune up her jazz vocals after signing to star in Cynthia Mort's "Nina," a movie about legendary singer Nina Simone. Mort's script focuses on Simone's relationship with her assistant Clifton Henderson, who will be played by David Oyelowo, backers said. William Morris Endeavor's Global Finance & Distribution Group brought the film to U.K. production, finance and studio facility operator Ealing Studios. Ealing is financing, producing and selling internationally the $10 million movie scheduled to shoot in the fall this year. WME Global is handling North American rights. Simone was a singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and civil rights activist. Mort's resume includes a stint as a writer-producer on TV's "Rosanne" and "Will & Grace" and as creator of "Tell Me You Love Me." www.billboard.com/news/mary-j-blige-to-play-nina-simone-in-biopic-1004091040.story

this album is just ok for me, her label needs to focus on her music more, her last couple eras have been all over the place.

^ That's true. R&B radio will play ANYTHING MJB (I hear five different MJB tracks a day), but her team has lost their ground.

Any updates on how "Stronger With EachTear" and her latest single "Hood Love" are doing in the US? 765k sold as of last week and We Got Hood Love is #44 on R&B. I think it's safe to call this album's era a failure.

I think it's safe to call this album's era a failure. I don't know what's going on with all the female singers who had mucho success in the past, I know the music environment is different but still. Mary's promo was fabulous in the beginning but then they dropped the ball. I knew she may have a problem with this cd when 'the One' f/Drake didn't get a great reception at radio even with the hyped video, then Stronger didnt do anything but she should have been at least able to scan a million cds and she's not going to be able to do that. Overseas sales has been a disaster not that she has ever been a big international seller but she and the label put a lot of extra work in promoting in the UK, Italy, Australia etc with the re-release of the album with duets by a 'hot' artist of each of those countries and yet the album has sold less than 40k in the UK and unmentionable quantities elsewhere. I'm watching Christina Aguilera's new album to see how that will fare but the signs aren't good.

MJB needs to go back to her R&B roots and leave the contemporary sound to Alicia Keys..etc. The Breakthrough/GP were amazing albums. Based on sales, I wouldn't call this album a failure, just a disappointment to her true fans.

This era will atleast go platinum which is still good, but it could be so much better. This album is just ok. Mary's best songs are those tear jerking songs. First of all her last couple of eras have been quite messy, long breaks in between singles. The confusion of what is gonna be a single. She needs consistency. Idk whats up with these labels. Sometimes they are the big fools.

Also Christina's album is turning out to be amazing, from the small clips her album sounds great.

765k in the US?? thats pretty good considering sales in general, especially R&B albums. Im impressed she can sell that much without a big hit.

I think I Am was a little too much of the same of what we have heard from urban radio in the past 5 years. Just Fine was fresh and new and probably more the type of song to encourage people to go out and buy the album.
