Well, they're commonly compared to Smashing Pumpkins and it's not like this song doesn't have a bunch of distortion. "Well Thought Out Twinkles" would probably be the better choice, though. "Panic Switch" should be played on any format it can be on since it is that good. That's actually an interesting comparison that I never really thought about. You're right, though. What comparison? Silversun Pickups to Smashing Pumpkins? They even have the same initials.

Haven't you ever heard that comparison? It's like saying you've never heard Creed being compared to Pearl Jam ha. Meanwhile, "Substitution" is gaining more spins on Alt.

Most people around my area have no idea what REAL music is, so I pretty much get to contemplate all this with myself. And I only recently (Well in past couple years), got into websites like these, and actually discussing music.

I've never heard Creed compared to Pearl Jam either, at least not in a "they sound alike way".
Silversun has always felt like a progressive version of The Pumpkins, which is probably why I like them so much. Alot of times though a person can find or "hear" comparables in other music but its not heard by others. The subjectiveness of music always means that listeners will have differing opinions....even on the most classical of music. I mean if you don't like Mozart you are going to be a fan and alot of people would just call it boring crap, while others , whether they like classical music or not can at least recognize the genius in it.
That's why so many "fights" happen when discussing music. One person's gold is another's crappola.

I'm surprised so many people have never heard the Pearl Jam/Creed comparisons before.

So... after what's going to be their 12th week at #2 this Sunday, does this actually have a shot at #1 again?

I kinda doubt this has anymore chance at #1, too many songs rising quickly behind it to overtake before Linkin Park drops off enough for it to catch. I though PJ would get there but I'm not sure anymore, it might be Muse or even AIC that gets there first. It will be interesting to watch.

If this were to take #1 next week (its 27th week), that would make 2 #1s in the same year that took over half a year to get there. Would that be a first?

Had to go to page 9 to find this.
Despite the fact that it now pisses me off each week this song doesn't fall recurrent, I'm happy to announce "Panic Switch" has now spent a full calendar year on the Alternative Top 50. Here's to a song good enough to actually deserve this feat.

Is there a reason why it's not going recurrent or is everyone who runs the chart just oblivious?

No, in order for a song to go recurrent, it has to drop below the top 20 and have spent more than 20 weeks on the chart. "Panic Switch" is at #18 right now. Though if there's a one year, top 10 rule, it may be removed prior to falling out of the top 20 after this week.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened more often before. I'm also surprised "Panic Switch" is still so high up on the charts. I haven't heard it on WPBZ in probably about 6-9 months or so. Whenever "Substitution" went for adds.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a 52-10 rule; otherwise, "Feel Good Drag" wouldn't have been on the chart for so long after its 52-week mark.

Exactly how long has this song been on the chart? Jeez, it's been at the bottom of the Top 20 for what seems like forever.

No, it shouldn't have. It's still in the top 20.
The wisdom of those stations still spinning it enough, over a year after it came out, to still be in the top 20... that's what can be questioned.
(Note: "Panic Switch" was my favorite song of 2009.)

No, it shouldn't have. It's still in the top 20. Agreed. As ready as I was for "Paralyzer" and "Feel Good Drag" to end their 60+ week runs, they didn't deserve to get yanked prematurely. Same goes for "Panic Switch". And all those songs sitting in the top 10 that you can be sure will be rivaling longevity records several months from now.
