Hey just heard this station drivin through NYC the other day...kinda feel like if you can listen for three hours w/o hearing a guitar or piano, it's a rhythmic station attracting people that like rhythmic music (and listen mainly for the beats, excitement, etc.)
Besides, if Nickelback, Kelly Clarkson, and The Fray have huge-selling CDs, and you leave them out of your "hit music channel" playlist, ur prob. not covering "hit music" (only hit music you can dance to I guess)
Def. used to the speeding up songs thing though cause Kiss 95.1/Charlotte did it all the time when I used to live there (and Star 94 ATL still does it a little)
Didn't realize Z100 didn't speed up their songs at all...

This station is gettin really bad ratings...it was 23rd in the NYC market for April (around 1.5 I think) - about the same as it was when it played Rock - looks like someone really messed up with their strategy IMO
So by switchin from Rock to pop/rhythmic, their ratings stayed the same, while Z100's went down about a full point >:(

Z100 is partly to blame for their fall in the ratings IMO. When this new station started with its horrid fake-Pop/nearly-all-Rhythmic playlist, Z100 responded by becoming more Rythmic-leaning instead of less so. They should have become *less* like their competitors, not more so!

I think z100 is getting less rhythmic again, by adding Shinedown and re-adding Matt Nathanson, as well as re-adding The Climb and then putting it on power rotation, and also putting IDNHU on power. So maybe they realized going rhythmic did hurt them and now they're going back to what they were.

i sure hope you're right, rurry. If they stick with what they've always done (pure pop!), I have no doubt that they'll crush this new station.

I migrated over to Now 92.3 because I felt like Z100 was too slow to move on some rhythmic songs, and this way I don't have to switch back and forth between power 105 and Z100.

Speakin' of Z-100,
I noticed that when they did "re-add" Miley Cyrus, it was because they were waiting to play the pop mix and they've been spinnin that version ever since. The original sounded very much like Leona Lewis "I Will Be" which were played around the same time, and so Miley wasn't gettin as much spins in the beginning.
As for 92.3, if I want helium, I'll tune in.
