2. He sampled a really good song, one that shouldn't have been sampled to begin with. Really? It sounded like "Blue" to me.

shaping up to be another BIG hit for him. The problem with Flo Rida is that he doesn't have an identity as an artist. He has this tough guy image going (his album cover for example) yet he releases bubble gum pop-rap. His image doesn't match the material on his album.
For this reason I predict ROOTS will flop as bad as mail on sunday.

This is the kind of stuff that we'll look back on in ten years and be like WTF is this shit?!

It samples "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65. At first I thought it was too soon to sample that song, but then I realized "Blue" is 10 years old, and I felt old... It's already been 10 years? Dear lord... Yes, some other hits from 99 include "Better Off Alone," "No Scrubs," "That Don't Impress Me Much" ...the list goes on and on. It doesn't feel that long ago to me.

What is with peoples issue with this sampling that song? Maybe Im just too young to understand the signifigance...The song is FIRE. 1. His sampling shows the lack of originality he has, not to mention the sad state the music industry is in as far as originality goes. 2. He sampled a really good song, one that shouldn't have been sampled to begin with. Surely they wouldn't want to sample a really bad song, but I definitely agree with point #1.

I like how Atlantic is promoting him though. Its quite smart. Spend a lot of money on great producers, throw some old samples in for familiarity, make cheap videos, and cross-promote new artists as featured guests (Kesha, Wynter) instead of wasting money on popular ones to upstart their new projects.
Who cares about branding Flo Rida. Atlantic took notice of how many downloads he sold off the last album and totally focused on this aspect for the promotion of his new project. Wasting time building his originality or image is useless if the music is still getting people's attention and money. In tough times like this, its all about going straight to the wallet.

Dear lord... More like 9 years and 4 months. Well at least here in the US. I always thought of "Blue" as a 2000 single. Maybe because I stayed in the boondocks and radio there didn't catch on until it peaked.

But don't labels lose money on downloads? I thought the labels made no profit from singles?

The labels make a decent profit off downloads (especially at this extent, still not as much as CD sales though). Its Flo Rida who might be left hanging here. But I was talking from the label's perspective anyway.

Eh I'm not really liking this. The sample seems kind of random & I don't like what they do with it. This is coming from someone who really likes RR & likes Blue as well.

Love this song. Flo Rida makes music not to be taken seriously. He's just a party 'rapper' who has a few really catchy, fun songs. No need to invest in him as an artist because he will eventually fade out like most do. Until then, we'll be jammin to hits like this.

The sample is really corny, but it works somehow.

The sample is totally not needed in this song imo. My favourite part is the chorus and the blue-da-ba-dee sounds... weird.

Flo Rida's music and vocals sound like something off of Kidz Bop.
