MUST. CONTAIN. ENTHUSIASM.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I feel like pen did when he posted the OLP thread. This is the best news of the year. Seriously, I had given up all hope of hearing any new BB before 2010. But their website founder just posted this:
"New Song By August: More news coming shortly"
New song confirmed to be titled "I Will Not Bow." And it's all but confirmed as a soundtrack single. I can live with that, as long as I get to hear it soon.
"Surrogates" trailer:
Maybe it will be on the soundtrack? Heck, I don't know. I just know that I'm pumped. Stay tuned.

Watch, it's just a soundtrack one-off, album drops in 2010.

^Which is what I'm afraid of. But either way, oh well. I've got Skillet, TFK, and Pillar all coming out this year. Not to mention Red and Decyfer Down's latest. Albums from 5 of my top 10 favorites are more than enough to hold me over for music from my favorite band. I wouldn't turn it down though I mentioned that the site founder has been annoyed by the members, but even the album producer has stopped posting updates on his website. His latest post is about him working with "a surprise group." I can't blame the guy, really.

This is definitely awesome news to read right before going to bed. I can't wait! I'm still hoping to see these guys live someday. Every time they come down here, I somehow seem to miss the show. (Psst. Come to Buzz Bake Sale 2009 in December...)

I totally imagine a bunch of people breaking into Nick's house, tying him up, duct taping him, and dragging him miles and miles to a Breaking Benjamin show, him screaming in terror all the while, shaking in pain and anguish when they break into "Polyamorous".

I'm just impressed Nick sorta kinda admitted to somewhat in a way kinda liking "Blow Me Away" a little, maybe. It may be my favorite of theirs, but I've liked nearly everything they've released so that would be tough.
I find it ironic that he lives in the town that the band calls their second home. You lucky bastard.

Well, it's pretty much confirmed to just be a soundtrack single now. However, their soundtrack songs have been top notch: "Blow Me Away," "Who Wants to Live Forever."
Here's some more info from the very secretive founder and zen master of TSB, california castaway:
STRANGER4LIFE: Does "By August" mean it could be released sooner, like next week or in July? ;) california castaway: yes.. STRANGER4LIFE: I think the soundtrack route is a possibility. It's a quick 1 song thing. You don't need a whole album by BB for that. Or it very well may be the prelude to the new album. Singles hit the airwaves well before CDs are on the shelf any more. california castaway: all good observations Joe :) m1zzkt: Adding onto the soundtrack idea, The Surrogates is being released by Disney which of course owns HR (Hollywood Records). So it kinda makes sense. california castaway: another brilliant observation :)
Didn't realize this was a Disney movie, or at least being released by them. I guess the majority of their artists; Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, and the High School Musical kids; didn't really fit the bill for this one, so they went with the Benjamin boys. I still think it's funny that they're all on the same label.

Well "Who Wants To Live Forever" isn't a great example cause it was a cover, so they didn't write that greatness.

It makes sense they'd be on a lot of soundtracks. They are on Hollywood Records after all. And Hollywood Records artists are all over soundtracks as one might expect.

him screaming in terror all the while, shaking in pain and anguish when they break into "Polyamorous". "Polyamorous" is their worst single. I'm just impressed Nick sorta kinda admitted to somewhat in a way kinda liking "Blow Me Away" a little, maybe. Hey, I had to concede something a little deeper than a smash radio single after a jerky comment like that. I find it ironic that he lives in the town that the band calls their second home. You lucky bastard. Yeah, it's completely wasted on me. In fact, it's my main grievance against the (listening audience of the) primary Alternative station for my area. Breaking Benjamin headline their radio festivals whenever they're promoting something (i.e., the ones I don't go to, but that's usually because there's nobody else worth checking out on the bill, either). They won the listener-based March Madness tournament 3 years ago and this year, as well when they haven't had a single on the radio since "Breath". Inexplicably the station never added "Until the End." Supposedly, "Diary of Jane" and "Breath" never wore out and listeners never demanded it. That's what I was told anyway. In the morning show specialty blocks, all 7 of their biggest singles (excluding "Until the End") are so well-worn during the regular programming segments that the following have consistently gotten occasional airplay: Wish I May, Home, Shallow Bay, Simple Design, Firefly, Break My Fall, Breakdown, Dance with the Devil, Blow Me Away. Completely wasted on me other than the fact that I've kind of grown to like "Blow Me Away" a little bit after awhile. It's possible (but unusual) for me to not switch stations on their hits, assuming I haven't let them play recently. Except for "Polyamorous." I could go the rest of my life without hearing that song again. That song just sucks to begin with. The other 5 (excluding "Rain," which is boring) are "decent enough" to "good."

I have to be brutally honest. Unless they are making an epic magnum opus that will push them into the annals of history forever and ever, they really have no excuse to be taking this long to make this album. Breaking Benjamin's music is hardly that complex to have to account for a four-year gap between releases. That's a time gap reserved for bands like Tool or Red Hot Chili Peppers.

^Well they do have lives outside of music. Plus Chad is a member of about 4 other bands now.
It hasn't been three years yet.

And since it's going to be released in first quarter 2010, then it will be three and a half years, give or take. Does that make you happy? And musicians aren't allowed to have lives.

When Breaking Benjamin puts out an album with as much range musically and lyrically as Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch, then we can talk.

Musically, BB is fantastic. They're not unique, but that comes secondary to me as long as the music is good. I've never really connected with anything from Our Lady Peace unless it's catchy. I don't think it's fair that OLP can take all the time in the world but BB has to have an album every two years. Who are you to say which band is more talented? It's all a matter of opinion.
