When Breaking Benjamin puts out an album with as much range musically and lyrically as Happiness Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch, then we can talk. Lyrically, Ben is top notch. Musically, BB is fantastic. They're not unique, but that comes secondary to me as long as the music is good. I've never really connected with anything from Our Lady Peace unless it's catchy. I don't think it's fair that OLP can take all the time in the world but BB has to have an album every two years. Who are you to say which band is more talented? It's all a matter of opinion. Sure, but you're wrong.

He does have a good point. Happiness... is quite the Tour de Force of an album. I think OLP has more "artistic" ambitions, while BB writes songs in an almost craftsman type manner. As far as the craft goes of writing a song with a killer riff and a mega chorus, he's one of the best. I have two albums from both bands. Man, I don't think I could choose. "One Man Army" vs. "So Cold." It's a tough battle all around.

So Cold is So Overrated. The best comparison would be Superman's Dead vs. Sooner Or Later

I think OLP has more "artistic" ambitions, while BB writes songs in an almost craftsman type manner. Not denying that at all, I even said BB isn't unique at what they do in the least. It's just that arguing with pen is about as useful as arguing with Ziff.

Yeah, but I think Pen is aware that he's being an asshole when he is. His "Sure, but you're wrong" is facetious. I could do the same thing to you if I were gonna argue that Sevendust is better than Breaking Benjamin, especially because I almost take personally how "Diary Of Jane" does so many things that sound like they would have fit perfectly on Sevendust's 2001 album Animosity or 2003 album Seasons. Then again, BB isn't the only alt-metal band to be influenced by Sevendust and then become way more popular than them. So I'll just go on being bitter about it.

I'm better than Ziff though, you have to admit. Generally... But so far you're two for two in spamming up lead single threads by my favorite bands, Skillet being the first victim.

I wanna add one thing in the pro-BB camp. "You Fight Me" is definitely not your typical song in the genre. It's almost got an industrial metal kinda feel to it. And the piano and guitar layering is immaculately done.

I love jvandyck's commentary, this discussion wouldn't be near as interesting without it, lol. I actually didn't like "You Fight Me" much at first, but it definitely grew on me. Ben seems kinda OCD, as I've heard some of the motives they've had for writing certain songs.
"We basically decided we wanted to make a hard rocking song that could be played in standard tuning and feel like drop D, and go from there."
It wouldn't surprise me at all if they were just bored and thought, "You know what, let's just screw around on this one."

Yeah I was gonna say. I love when I read this in the morning, I'm gonna feel like the biggest third wheel ever. If we were all in a room, the two of you guys would be arguing and I'd be sitting there talking to myself and every so often break into the conversation, but you guys completely ignore me...so then I just keep talking to myself.

It's been four years. And Our Lady Peace is a far more talented band than Breaking Benjamin is. So thank you for proving my point. They're your favorite, so therefore they're more talented. Thanks for the lesson ;) Well OLP actually has sold over 5 Million albums worldwide, one of them (Clumsy) going DIAMOND in Canada

it is 1 million, which is on average 1/33 in canada people owns the album, of course its probably NOT EXACTLY that much, but it would be close.
Its ALOT harder to go Diamond in Canada then in the US.
1 milion copies with a 33 million population as oppose to 10 million out of a 260 million population

It's still harder in the U.S. though. 1 out of 33 Canadians and 1 out of 26 Americans.
EDIT: That's just based on the info you gave.

ok first I had the US population wrong, its actually 306 Million, and Canada's population was 29 million in 97 when Clumsy was released
so 1/29 as opposed to 1/30 is the actual stats, sorry I was all wrong in my last post this still proves my point though
